No, you are misunderstanding what I asked you. You are free to post here or anywhere else you choose, all you want. I was just asking you if you could reveal who pays you to post?

You are not a teenager, and obviously a hired poster. I was just curious if you work directly for Apple competition such as Samsung, or a company that hires people to post negatively about whatever product a company is afraid of losing market share to?

You have to know that only stupid people that read these forums believe you are actually trying to pose an honest debate. Only idiots would come to these slums to make a decision as to what phone they would purchase.

The new iphone does feel cheap in the hand compared to the 4 and 4s.

I feel the same way. It loses some of its elegance compared to the 4S. Something about that entire glass piece is very graceful. Nightmare for drops, sure, but it is quite aesthetically pleasing.

Whereas the 5 looks and feels more utilitarian and rugged, less classy.

Just my impressions.

Wow... Solution: Make the screen slightly wider and reduce the bezel on the sides and on the top and bottom. The Galaxy SIII is a great example of how a design can form itself around a large screen and be very ergonomically effective. It feels AMAZING in the hand. Yes, it's big, but it's incredible how nice it feels in the hand.

Apple's iPhone 5 feels sharp, obtuse, and looks weird. I'm struggling to get used to this guys. I wonder if I'm alone or if time will make it grow on me. Right now I'm hating it.

SO how long have you worked for Samsung? :D

In the sense that you could technically touch the upper right hand side of the screen without moving the fingers along the back, sure, I'll admit it's 'a bit awkward' as compared to the 4. That being said, I've had my iPhone 5 for about a week now, and I'm used to it already. *shrug* For those times that I'm in a situation where it's a bit TOO awkward to type one-handed (e.g., walking onsite to do a work order), I just use Siri; or I wait.

I understand your point about going with an even larger phone if you have to deal with one that's already uncomfortable....and I suppose that's your prerogative. I guess, for me, going with ANY phone is a series of tradeoffs; and when I evaluate a product for my personal usage (both as just a regular guy and as a civil service IT specialist), I determine which aspects are primary for me - which ones are absolutely most important.

For me personally, it's ease of use, integration with what I already use, and quality/reliability. The iPhone (even considering the current problems) handily wins on all accounts as far as I am concerned. Your mileage may vary, I guess. :)

Finally a reasoned post! I agree. I actually like several things about the iPhone 5. I've said numerous times here I do not yet know if the new form factor and screen size will grow on me. I haven't counted it out yet.

----------

I believe they will shrink the wasted space at the top and bottom and reduce the height back to 4.5" when they redesign it in two years (for the iPhone 6), keeping the same 4" screen. Until then, it's just something to get used to.

I mostly agree!

Definitely agree. It feels like holding a chocolate bar.

So here you go everyone. Yet another person who thinks it feels weird. When did he join! Quick, attempt project call out! Can we label him a troll?

Anyway, good point. It does indeed feel like a chocolate bar.

The entire back of the iPhone 4S is a high gloss glass. The back of the iPhone 5 is made up of aluminum, a metal, that has been presumably anodized. The very top and bottom band of the iPhone 5 is akin to the iPhone 4S. The high gloss glass is smoother than the iPhone 5. The anodized aluminum is more rough because it's metal treated at high temperature with color. That means it doesn't have layered clear coats over top of it. On the other hand, glass is one of the sleekest surfaces in existence, and is used for things like a touchscreen where you move your fingers around and make multi-touch inputs.

I'm sorry but you're not making much sense.

Run your finger down the aluminum on the back and continue through past the glass. Does you finger get "hung up" or grip the glass more than on the aluminum? Mine sure does. I think that is the point he was getting at. Glass is sleek, yes. But there are many "smoother" surfaces out there. I can run my finger over my glass trackpad easier than I can the glass on my iPhone.

I don't understand how you can say the 4S looks and feels better.

IMO, the iPhone 5 is awesome. I picked up my 4S earlier after using my 5 for the past week and it felt like a scrunched up brick.

The iPhone 5 is lightweight and the screen gives your eyes some breathing room.

Maybe if you use it a little bit longer you'll get used to it? Could be it takes you longer to adjust to things. If not, then I would just go get a galaxy or something.

In my opinion. The iphone 5 is the best iphone ever made and the best smartphone on the market. ##+-'s on the Galaxy S3 as well as the 4S.

OP, this is how you start a thread. It's your opinion. I have no problems reaching all parts of the screen. You do. Take it back, no need to start a thread about it.

All the below is just my opinion. Take it or leave it.

The iphone 5 is a huge improvement over the 4S. Most people wanted a bigger screen and got it. They also wanted to use the phone one handed, got that too. Apple's listens to their users thankfully for us. Most Android phones don't take into account usability. The Galaxy S3 feels like crap in the hand in my opinion. Too damn large. It's like using a tablet for a phone. And I am a large guy. The HTC one X felt better and even that was too big. Apple got it right with the iphone 5.

It has the best screen on the market regardless of size.

Improvements are:

Weight
Construction (Uni-body)
Camera( front and back)
Camera Lens
Connector
LTE
WiFi
Speakers
Sound
In call sound and clarity(three mics)
Screen
Thickness
CPU
GPU
Battery life

They completely redesigned the phone. Changed everything.

There is more. But for the people that say, minor update, or that the screen is too tall are just voicing their opinion. But the above improvements are not my opinion, they are fact.

There isn't even a half inch more that the average thumb has to reach. Thats it a half inch if that. Actually 0.4 inch. The bezel was reduced on the bottom and top even though the screen got a half inch bigger. You can't reach a extra 10mm to the top, too much for you? Really?

If it is just take it back, no harm no foul. I have no problem with it neither do millions of other iphone 5 users.

I agree with the OP.
After using my 5 all day and coming back home and picking up my 4... the 4 just seems right. The height of the 5 is not needed. I love the other changes... LTE, thinner, lighter, aluminum, nicer build.. but the screen is just whacky. I'm big into home theater.. 16:9 all the way.. but this thing is just SO tall and awkward. Furthermore, I'm tired of people saying "but movies are great on it". Movies should be the LAST thing you care about on a PHONE. I mean.. pictures taken on the phone don't even fill the screen.

I may take it back, not sure. I love some parts but the screen is simply dumb. I'll give it a few more days.

I don't care about movies on my iPhone, I care about the movies I shoot on my iPhone. I really do like being able to have them shown in full screen instead of having to zoom out to get the wide screen effect on my previous phones. I like to do a lot of video with my iPhone so the extra screen estate was a welcome change in the end for me. At first I didn't think it was all that necessary either.

This made me laugh. I sort of feel like this with huge phones. I have not exactly small, but not huge hands. When I saw that Apple commercial with the guy using his thumb to operate the iPhone 5 I thought my God he's a giant. But since I always use two hands the size difference isn't an issue for me. Actually using one hand makes me feel like I'm going to drop the damn thing. For me, the new screen size is an excellent trade off between form and function.

Its quiet possible you all are just not used to it yet. Too used to the old familiar form factor.

To be honest I dont care too much about the screen size bump, I am glad they didn't make it wider though. Im more attracted to the increased thinness-because I usually use some sort of case. So now I can add a case and it could still be as thin as my naked iPhone 4. That is awesome in itself IMO. Too often I found myself switching cases trying to find that balance of looks, thinness, and protection (its hard to get all three of those).

Also I found prolonged use of the naked 4/4s hurt my hands. Which is why I found it odd OP said the 5 was sharp--it cant be sharper than the 4/4s, any sharper and you might be able to cut rope

lol I love those BK commercials. Im 6'4 and play basketball-my hands are huge. But so not prefer huge phones. I learned that with my EVO, catching cramps in my hand pulling down the notification drawer, and couldn't believe it when they started making most phones even bigger. I have a friend with a phone so big it wont go in his pocket. He is always setting it on something (its a wonder he doesn't forget it while out) or constantly having to carry it his hands. Its quite ridiculous.

...
But I'm afraid to say that I like my iPhone 4S better. It looks better. It's sleeker. Smoother. Feels much better in the hand. Doesn't seem to scratch nearly as easily. And it fits my hand perfectly.

The iPhone 5 is too tall and skinny. I can't get used to it. It's like the proportions are totally wrong... by making it so tall and keeping it the same width, the display seems completely wrong in terms of dimensions. It looks and feels odd. It screams "Make me a bit wider!"

I think Apple screwed this up and the reason is simple: they failed to provide a new design around a larger screen. The current design is wrong: it's just an old design that doesn't fit a larger display. It's like it's jury rigged or something.

They instead said, let's make the screen 4" because we can fit an extra row of icons in there and people will still be able to use it with one hand. But that's not design first as Jobs pushed. How does it feel Tim Cook!

Does it look and feel right? That's the most important thing. And to me it feels just wrong.

Solution: Make the screen slightly wider and reduce the bezel on the sides and on the top and bottom. The Galaxy SIII is a great example of how a design can form itself around a large screen and be very ergonomically effective. It feels AMAZING in the hand. Totally agree.

I love Apple products. I owned the original iPhone (purchased on launch night) and have an iPhone 4. I really wanted to like the iPhone 5, and when I read the rumors about the tall, skinny screen, I hoped it wouldn't be true. Unfortunately, it was. Then I thought, "maybe when I see it in person..."

Well, I did that yesterday, and oh my, it's worse than I imagined. The phone just feels weird. The materials don't feel right. It is too light. It no longer feels substantial. The proportions are wrong. It doesn't exude quality. And, worst of all, that TALL, SKINNY screen looks ridiculous. What am I going to do with an extra row of icons or a few more contacts on the display??

The weight is awful too. Lighter isn't necessarily better. Anyone who buys high end home electronics knows that weight is often directly proportional to quality. Think about the cheap $29 DVD players you can get - light as a feather because they're junk. Thats how the new iPhone feels. Like cheap junk.

Huge misfire by Apple, and now we're stuck with this form factor for (probably) two years. ugh. I was one of the ones hoping for the same form factor (as the 4 and 4s) prior to launch, and that would have been infinitely better.

----------

I'm really curious. It is plainly obvious that you and the many others who have just joined and post these negative iPhone 5 comments have an agenda. It must work because you have pages of responses. There is no way you are some "skinny teenager" who has owned every iPhone, but instead a grown adult.

Since only the most idiot of people who participate in these children's forums fall for these posts, and those of course are your target audience, who do you work for? Is it a company that hires people to post to cause conflict on any number of products? Or do you work for Samsung directly since that is the product you are promoting?

I think that is a much more interesting topic than your choreographed posts. Just let us know. It won't matter because all these threads and these forums are destined for the sewer anyway. Your employees would probably never know you gave up a business practice aimed at negativity. Oh, and in between product releases, do you write on other topics too, such as political races, union backed causes, or political party agendas?

Why can't you believe that there are a lot of us Apple fans who hate the iPhone 5?

It is hilarious coming on here and reading Apple fanboys defend the iPhone 5 to the death. I love Apple but im not stupid, the ip5 is not as good as Apple could make, they could do much much better but they don't need to when their fanbase will praise ANYTHING they make.

And trolls will put down anything they make. Whats the difference?

Whats hilarious is you geniuses that say that they could make it so much better and not explaining how or why. Apple doesn't do things to say' look we have this too'. If they feel it doesn't improve a product they will not do it. Samsung throws everything they can into a phone weather it makes it better or not, regardless of battery life, usability etc. Complete garbage.

Wireless charging give me a break.

Sadly, that is not the case. Schiller put it well when he said that people do not need another device to plug in. And that’s just what wireless charging means today. You still need a power adapter. It still needs to be plugged into the wall, but at the other end is some device that you can place your phone on. The only savings is the millisecond it takes to actually plug your charger into the phone.

Really? How could they make it better? They improved everything this year. Complete redesign. In fact i don't think next year will be much of a improvement at all. NFC is dead before it got here.

If they can make it so much better? How. Without making compromises on design and usefulness.

I'm glad you speak for millions of iPhone 5 users. Your "Take it back, no need to start a thread about it." I will not stop starting opinion threads because that's what a discussion forum is all about. I don't really care either way what you think of the iPhone 5, its your opinion. And you're free to start a thread about why you love the iPhone 5. We get it. If people have a different opinion than your own, deal with it and get over it.

If you actually read and understood the thread, you'd see that I already addressed what you just wrote. In short, I stated that speed improvements, better camera... etc., all are great but if the design doesn't work than it makes no difference: I'm not taking to the phone not because of all of the little improvements. It's the design. It's too tall and skinny. I have no idea if this new design/size will grow on me.

As Steve Jobs famously said:

"Design is how it works".

This.

In the last 3 years I have used iPhone 3GS and Samsung Galaxy Note 1.

I wanted to get an LTE (4G) phone so I pre-odered a black iPhone 5 64Gb.

I have been using it for a couple of days now. It is really fast. I also like the LTE... and thats about the positive things.

I think that it is time for me to say good bye to it though, and to iOS in general.

The phone has some marks around the edge (not that many tbh., but for a A$ 999 device simply not acceptable).

The edge is too sharp, the phone feels unnatural in my hands and its a bitch to type.

The iOS is stale, I mean it feels really old...

It was fun before, but after using Android last year, iOS simply does not compare. File management is so painful (iTunes are rather counter-intuitive).

That was my whinge.

And I feel better :)

I don't care about movies on my iPhone, I care about the movies I shoot on my iPhone. It's great to focus on one use case but this is a phone and is used primarily in portrait mode, not as a video player and recorder. Portrait is the orientation that needs to be nailed. Case-in-point: while some Apps have a landscape mode, the entire iOS has no landscape mode and many Apps, including core Apps, have no landscape mode. You must hold the device in Portrait mode to use the device. This goes for using iOS, making phone calls, Apps like the clock and weather App, the entire App Store, on and on.

I actually find landscape mode within things like the Browser to be troublesome because of how long and skinny the phone is. Content just gets cut off too soon.

Day 6: still feels and looks like a chocolate bar. Reminds me of my LG Chocolate phone a bit

I really don't get this.

I assume you compared the ip4s to the ip5 side by side just like me in a retail outlet and had a play with a working demo model ?

Its not much bigger in size terms and same width as the 4s.
Try looking for archived threads about the 4 and 4s when they were released in ref to the back glass panel haters and people saying its time Apple moved onto a new concept.

People cried out for change and a bigger screen so apple have tried this. I admit its not for everyone, but the whole point is to do your homework before committing and or returning in within the refund window.

I currently use the ip4s and will be upgrading to the ip5 when i can get my hands on one !

People are going to defend the ip5 which does not make them fanboys and people are going to criticise it which does not make them apple haters, its just a difference of opinion.

Rerhaps the OP's choice of username is not the best and would lead members to think he/she is a "troll"

Apple find themselves in a Catch 22 situation
