Some people have money. You can also use a tax write off since its business related. Talk to your CPA since you will be able to write most of it off.

I've been running my own business for many years now and am well versed with how to do it, but thanks for your input.

Money is not the issue-- value for money is. Paying to have the opportunity to learn from the people who are experts in their field and to network with colleagues is why you're going to WWDC, not just to listen to the Great Steve Jobs speak. Giving that up to go rush out to spend more money to buy a product seems contraindicated.

But, of course, each of us values things differently. If you're going and are happy with blowing off the show just to stand in line, more power to you.

I said that they can have the iphone at the conference for the developers. It takes you 10 minutes at the most to get the iphone AT THE CONFERENCE CENTER (therefore not having to leave the building at all) and the rest of the time is used to "network and learn".

1600 big deal. You have your CC ready, swipe and you got your iphone. Why is it so hard for you to imagine something like this? when i bought my iphone last year i was in an out of store in less then 2 minutes.

It's not that I can't imagine it, I just don't see it as likely.

Tell you what... if you're there at WWDC on Monday and Steve Jobs announces immediate availability (or even same day availability) look me up-- I'll buy you the beer or other beverage of your choice.

Seriously... dont. Apple is going to want lines wrapped around the block and people camping out to get it. This creates more curiosity, more enthusiasm, and more press coverage.

The phone will probably be released that Friday, or the 27th (end of the month). If I had to bet money, I'd day June 27th and 6pm.

Grrr...people, this is just one person's opinion. He has no facts or insider info to back it up.

No need to get all worked up. Just let it be. We will know on Monday.

Correction: it takes the first few people 10 minutes at the most to get the phone. The rest are waiting 2.5 hours.

7500 attendees * 2 minutes each = 15000 minutes / 100 sales people = 2.5 hours total.

Well if they put it on sale Friday the 13th. That willl still give them a full week to publicize it.

I'm thinking back a couple weeks, to the Grand opening of the Boston Apple Store, they only gave a few days notice maybe the Thursday or Friday beforehand. and there were close to 1,000 people in line.

If it came out the 13th, Apple could then play it as "Even good things happen on Friday the 13th".

No one said 1,600 developers. Where did you get that?

rob did the calculation for you assuming 100 sales people (compared to your 20) and a 2-minute purchase. It still comes out to a 2.5 hour process total.

Going "c'mon, it would work!" won't save you; doing the calculation will.

No one says anyone has to wait in line. People could continue to wander the conference - it could be an all-day process, with people going in to purchase their phones whenever they like. If they've got enough for everyone, it's not going to be so much of a necessity that people will have to camp for them. Everyone would get theirs eventually.

There have already been reports of Apple Stores receiving "Do not open until..." shipments. This is coming from a "reliable source" (aka a friend who works at an Apple Store).

I take it the ... is Monday June 9th?! You left out the most important part. :D

I'd say a new iPhone would be released on Friday, June 13th or seven days later. Look at the original iPhone and Leopard releases (6PM on a Friday)

What about AT&T not taking Vacation???

I had to call AT&T Corporate Support yesterday. I was on the phone talking for about 30 minutes with a Rep. They had got an iPhone a couple of months back and was talking about mine.
Well, of course, I turned the conversation to the new iPhone.
She stated that they had a person at Apple that has an iPhone and Corporate account. She stated they he had been told that the next was going to be 3G but that was about all they were told.
She also stated that she HADN'T received any internal email about not being able to take vacation for a month. She was surprised when I asked her about that.
So, don't know who actually 'supposedly' received that kind of notice.
Was it AT&T store employees, AT&T sales & account reps, or who. You would think that if it was Account Reps, that ALL of them would know about it. This person sure didn't and they were very knowledgeable and had been with AT&T in that capacity for over 4 years (First - AT&T, then migrated to Cingular, then migrated again to AT&T). Said that they ALL kept their jobs through both migrations.

I say everyone should call their local Apple store (if you have one) everyday until Monday of course and ask if they have any iPhones. I just called mine in Omaha and they guy said they didn't have any right now (duh!) but he said they are looking EVERYDAY for the new iPhone shipments. The way he said this was very interesting though, and like someone a few posts above said, some Apple stores are already receiving shipments. Let's hope for Monday release day !!!!!!!!!!!

They are not going to go 2 months without any iPhone sales. I expect an announcement and shipping after about a week,

Also, people should go online to the apple store and do the apple chat thing and ask about the 3g iPhone, just to see if we have a .00000000001% chance of some newbie spilling the beans. Yes I know this won't happen but just try.

Is anyone going to be dumb enough to camp online again? Apple has miilions of these things ready to go. Why wait? Unless there has been some sort of delay in hardware manufacturing (something that was recently rumored) the 9th or the following Friday or Monday.
