i just got a call from the BB where I preordered and they told me that they are opening at 8AM friday JUST for preorders. Guess they got a lot of complaints lol.

So they're going to open at 8am and start taking care of preorder customers first?
Yep! She said if I am not able to make it at 8AM that I could set up an app to come in later that day or the next day but that they would hold the phone for me. Not sure if all the BB's are doing this or just this one. I filed a complaint on Friday when I realized what they were doing. I'm pretty sure a lot of people did too.
I sure hope my best by does the same thing. Question for you, but what means did you complain by, bc i would like to try the same avenue.
Well I completed a survey after I got my receipt for my $50 downpayment. I went to the website and gave my honest take on the BB location I went to. At the end there is space for you to discuss issues related to BB in general. I went on a mini rant about the fairness of their pre-order policy. Within 30 min the mobile manager at BB called me to "explain" the store-wide policy. But again, I'm not sure if that was all that did it. As I can see from this thread, many people across the country have been complaining to BB about this. Maybe you should call your local BB and ask them if they have a special arrangement as well.
Ok So the General Manager here in the Northern VA area gave me a call back to clarify how they are doing pre orders. She says that there will be 2 lines at Best Buy, one for people that pre ordered, and one for NON pre orders. She says the will first service the pre ordered line, then if any are left after the people in line with the pre orders the will start with the general public. Now the bad part is, that one must still go to the store and get in the pre order line. I hope this helps some of you guys out.

They said I will get an email that day to go pick it up and they will reserve the iPhones for preorders first and sell what they have left if they do have any left to walk in customers.
And since I was the 1st preorder at that location I'll get mine Friday I hope.

I'm going to be pissed if i find out out that my best buy changed their minds and are selling to pre-orders first friday morning after telling me several times that they are only doing first come first serve. I dont want to wait early in line only to get screwed. i hope it's just at your best buy that's splitting up to two different lines. I'm going to my best buy tomorrow just to confirm with them how they are doing things.
I used to go to Best Buy all of the time but I can't remember the last time I went there. Overpriced and bad service! enough said.
They changed it a day or so ago because people that preordered where filing complaints with the bbb.
They told me the same but I preordered anyway. So now I am getting it Friday instead of up to 2 weeks later.
So most likely if they got many preorders there won't be any left to sell.
i just called a minute ago and the rep told me that it is for certain first come first serve and pre-orders will get theirs with the next shipment. I wish i was in your situation as it would make things a whole lot easier for me but it looks like im gonna be waiting in line friday morning.
I would keep checking because I think they have changed heir corporate policy so maybe that store isn't aware yet. Make sure you call right before they close on Thursday to make sure they haven't changed it.
I guess what I don't get is why you didn't keep your preorder if you were going to wait in line at best buy anyway.
I was going to, but each rep hinted at me that it was pointless to pre-order because they weren't sure when they will get the next shipment. they emphasized that it is first come first serve that day. I will definitely check with them on thursday but I might just pre-order just in case tomorrow. i dont want any surprises on friday morning. perhaps i should I try to connect with best buy headquarters and confirm with them?
I would stay is close contact with that store. You could also get on the preorder list now, but it may already be too late to get one on the 14th. You may be in a no-win situation right now with regard to getting one on Friday from BB.
reading through the best buy forums, it seems like different stores are doing it in different ways and doesnt seem to be a definite change in policy for all stores. it seems like most stores are doing first come first serve but a few will allow pre-orders to get theirs. this is so stupid, best buy needs to get their act together. i am frustrated and concerned right now.

I will be mad if they changed it back to how they did it last year because I came in early last friday to pre-order to ensure i was first, or damn near close to #1 on the pre-order list, but decided to not go through after being informed of how they changed policies.

Wow.. its not about it being a phone, but lack of communication and being misinformed. I will be at best buy waiting at the door at 10 am tomorrow and they will be hearing alot from me.
That's exactly what my Best Buy out here in Chicago told me. They changed the policy over the weekend. There will be two lines on launch day, 1 for pre-orders 1 for people who didn't pre-order.
That won't get you far either besides maybe getting you kicked out.
Either preorder one now or wait at an Apple store or order one online.
I did the same thing with the Iphone 4 last year, and I was one of many pissed off people who got their iphone a week late. They made it seem like we were all getting our phones on launch date, and then come launch date they say, oh sorry, wait till tomorrow. Then tomorrow became a week. I was pissed but dealt with it, but just be prepared. They will blame it on Apple and say Apple shorted them, and its not their fault

Most likely they said the same to all people trying to preorder so most of them turned away.
I know at my local bb at 4pm Friday they had no preorders cause nobody wanted to go for their bs preorder and hope for the best.
So I was the only preorder and was willing to wait an extra 2 weeks.
Hope yours was the same and the list is not that long.
