Is this the first year they have the iPhone on launch? If so - they are operating the same exact way Radio Shack did last year. Radio Shack had pre-orders which meant nothing because no store knew how many units they were even getting. They scrapped (a few days prior - and you only knew if you called) the whole pre-order wait list and did first come-first served.

This year - they actually have the same "tool" as Apple and ATT (for example) which goes through the validation, etc which I assume means folks ordering at RS are better off than last year.

Again - sounds to me like BB is running their operation like RS did last year...

Have you pre-ordered one from BB ? If not you are making assumptions based upon incomplete information. When you go to BB for pre-order they take your information. They verify that you are eligible for pre-order with your carrier and then they take your phone order. How is this different from if you are pre-ordering from a carrier ?

----------

Once you pre-order from Bestbuy you receive email giving your order confirmation. That email also contains order number and details about your order. Everybody pre-ordering from Bestbuy are getting this email or not ? If you've just been handed a paper and didnot receive email confirmation you need to go back and check with local BB.

What he said! Best Buy does pre-orders on all new released phones. Every time a new hyped smartphone comes out they go through the same pre-order process. People are always so quick to slam best buy. I have never had an issue with them.

I was absolutely making assumptions based on previous posts. I have no idea how BB is working their sales other than what was posted and I didn't pre-order the 4s from anyone.

I was relaying my experience with RS.

hmm i got tricked into this whole bestbuy fiasco as well. I just looked at my email I got from them and the order total is listed as $799 for the 32GB 4S.

Is this normal, are they not including the carrier discount? Or will I have issues when I go pick it up and will try and charge me the non discounted price?

Can anyone confirm whether their order total shows the full price of the iPhone or the price of the carrier discount?

The e-mail from them with my order also shows the full retail price ($899).

It's showing full price because that is the cost of the device itself. You did not actually go through the steps, at least i didn't, to actually upgrade the device. Once you go in to pick up the phone is when they charge you based on your account and your eligibility price.

I went through the upgrade when I pre-ordered and mine still shows 799. BB said it's totally normal. They said it will be fixed when I pick it up on Friday.

My e-mail shows the full price. But don't worry. They probably have to show the full price for accounting purposes. (And also due to the fact that there is no carrier plan associated with it yet.) When you pick up your phone, you will go over the plan of your choice. After all that is settled, you will be given the subsidized price.

I've seen this before when I ordered my 3GS, and also saw someone else's price show up at the register. You first see the full price, then they punch in some code/numbers and then your final price is the subsidized one.

Best Buy ****ed me over last year with the iPhone 4. I pre-ordered the first day pre-orders were being taken. I went every other day to see if I would be getting my black 32 GB model. The day before release I went in and they told me I was not getting a 32, but a 16 because they sold out. About five different BB employees told me I would be getting my 32, but they screwed me over. I asked for my pre-order down payment back, but of course I couldn't get cash back so they gave me a Best Buy gift card. I ended up camping outside of the fifth avenue Apple store with my in-store reservation. I loved the experience, but Best Buy, in the end, is still a piece of **** store.

Yea I am going to have to disagree. I like best buy. Just depends on the employee you talk to.

This is the Email i got from the sales manager.

Dear Presale Customers,

I'm emailing you to keep you up to date on how the presale process will work. All presales will be fulfilled in order of received and will take priority as inventory becomes available. Unfortunately, having a presale does not guarantee you the product on the day of launch, Friday Oct. 14th. You will be notified via email when your product becomes available, at that point you have 72 hours to come in to fulfill your presale before the product gets released to another customer. In an effort to save you time, please do not come into the store until you have received the email confirmation that your product is available for pickup.

We will open at 8 AM on the day of launch and will process activations on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a singular line for walk-ins as well as presale customers and activations will be performed on a first come first serve basis. All preorders for each specific model and color will be fulfilled prior to any product being made available to walk-in customers. please continue to check your email for any further updates, as well as for your confirmation email.

If you have any further questions please feel free to contact me.

Just got that very same email not too long ago. I'll be waitingon that next email!

Bad news for me i guess. Here is update from the store

John,

That is correct as product will be very limited, due to the fact that Apple is releasing 24 different models, sizes and colors. Unfortunately, Apple withholds most details until the last possible minute. I see that you preordered a Sprint 32GB White and I have just learned that Best Buy, and quite possibly everywhere, will not receive any Sprint iPhone 4S models on the 1st shipment of the phones. It sounds like they will be on the 2nd shipment of phones from what I've heard at this point, but I don't have any definitive word on that. I will keep you up to date the second I get further information.

So i can walk into Best Buy tomorrow and just pick one if i get there right when they open?

I was going to preorder the phone from BB but decided not because of the Galaxy Nexus being released in a couple weeks most likely, but if i can pick up a 4s from BB on launch day maybe I will then to try it out before the Nexus comes out.

I'm way ahead of you on that. I've already made a promise to myself that I will never shop at Best Buy again. The service is horrible, and the whole thing is a scam.
I go there to test out products or buy a cable for a few days and then return it if I forgot it at home.

When I went abroad last year for a month, I bought a Droid 2 Global from them and used it on my trip, then returned it for a full refund with no restocking fee when I returned.

Screw Best Buy. They'll go the way of Circuit City soon enough.

Update that i got from Best Buy, is that no BB will have any Sprint Phones tomorrow at all. I Guess we can take that with a grain of salt, but it's not looking good.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A334 Safari/7534.48.3)

And i was thinking about goin to their lAunch today :/

I have a preorder for Verizon 64gb with best buy and was also given the iffy response. My store isn't opening till 9 but I plan to be there waiting when they open.

I'll report back about the experience.

I ordered a 64g white sprint iphone 4s and i still never got a confirmation email... This is madness.
