Hello,

Since my last 100% charge, the battery has drained. I wouldn't say "correctly", since it takes a long time to do 100% -> 99%. And it also takes a very long time to charge from 98 to 100%.

But it seems to be working. I still have an appointment at the Apple Store earlier. I would tell them not to restart the phone, but at least check the problem.

PS: I need to restart the phone to fix a bug on a game. It's frustrating not being able to do it haha

Make sure your phone isn’t charged to 100% when you’re at the apple store, you might be there for a while Before it starts dropping lol, show them this thread.

I'm going to have to wait in town before going anyway, I'm going after work and I won't have time to go home. In short, the battery will have started to discharge, hopefully :)

I already know what they’ll say, let us know how you go anyways.

Maybe I can play on my first replacement to get a new iPhone. I had screen burns on the first one and this one tends to have image retention as well. If they ignore the battery, I would push the other issue a bit. Hoping not to end up with a third impacted model.

In my case I can reboot just fine when I want and the battery would go down normally. I rebooted many times since the restore and the battery indicator never became stuck

Takes a while to drop from 100%, but was like that even before (I don't have a Max so it definitely goes down faster)

I don't want to pop the champagne just yet but the DFU restore might have worked

Battery level and battery usage since midnight now coincide too

So it's still not safe to restart my phone? 😐

I'm saying the opposite. I can reboot my phone just fine and the battery will drop. It's dropping almost too fast now 🥲

You can try a DFU restore to fix it permanently, a normal restore didn't work for me

Burn in on 2 devices? never had burn in on any oled iPhone, you have auto lock set to never?

I'm not restoring nothing, not fixing apple stuff ups lol, hate restoring my devices, we need a software update asap. 🤦‍♂️

The lock and brightness options are the basic ones for the iPhone. My first model had a big burn-in after 4 hours of waze. I haven't used the second one yet under these conditions, but the "WiFi" and "battery" logos tend to stick to the top of the screen. This is mostly visible on a solid dark brown background.

I'm sorry if you have already answered this, but after the restore did you get your data back through iCloud? Or did you start from 0?

I did restore from a backup on my Mac, I was up and running in 15 minutes

Starting as new wasn't so bad either, but putting the pictures back on the camera roll is a PITA, I used the Rollei app to reimport all of my pictures which I previously imported on my desktop. But some lost their edits, and many pictures were duplicated. It's definitely better with a full backup

What seemed to really do the trick for me was the DFU restore though. Checked again with Coconut and the % difference is now 1,5%. We'll see tomorrow but it looks fixed

If you do this be wary that the procedure to start a DFU is similar to the one of an hard reset (I tell you from experience... triggered a second one by mistake before nailing the keys combination...). Used this video

I think I'll also enable photos on iCloud though, for the future, that way it's slower but easier to get everything back

When using Waze, is your phone mounted to the dashboard? Does your phone get hot? That happened to me as well on the 12 Pro max, where I was using Waze for 7 hours and with sitting on the dashboard and with sun and heat, phone got very warm, later noticed that it created burn in. But since I just purchased a brand new car that has wireless CarPlay capability, I don't need to worry about it.

I'd recommend not having your phone out in the heat with screen on for long period of time.

No, I hate to leave my phone in too hot conditions. It was a maximum of 25 ° in the car and the phone is not in direct sunlight.

Alas, not going super good. Battery went down normally. At 29% I charged to 84%, and it's been there almost an hour. Checked briefly with coconut and it's really at 79,3%. Didn't reboot in the meantime. Seems that after any meaningful charge it stays there quite a bit. When I connected it briefly to check with Coconut it went down normally afterwards, so it's only when it's charged much more that something happens

Now it went down to 83% and battery was at 79%. Looks like there's this 5% gap which reduces itself over time to 1-2%. Is it intentional? Was it like this before? Who knows my friends, who knows

SO

How many did have more than 5% drops on reboots? I counted only @Ah0ck from 79 to 67%

In the daily battery thread is has been pointed out, and it's probably true, that Apple waits for the battery to actually drop at least 5% before dropping 1% of the indicator, and then slowly reducing this gap to a 1-2% difference during the day. Maybe they noticed that people are happier to have this delusion of the battery holding the charge more right after charging the phone. Rebooting the phone makes it read the raw battery percentage value again (or it can be checked with Coconut on a Mac). This explains the up to 5% battery drops on reboots.

The more I read this thread and ponder about my experience the more I think this could be just expected behaviour. The batteries on these 13s are quite good, and it can take a while to see the percentage drop. This, coupled with Apple's algorithm, could give the impression of a stuck battery percentage indicator (at any percentage, apparently this algorithm kicks in after a long-ish recharge. Brief charges don't matter).

The only way to falsify this hypothesis is to get more than a 5% difference on reboots or when checking with Coconut. Who else had this? I tried it yesterday, but as I documented I couldn't get more than the usual 5% difference, it was actually 1-2% near the end of the day.

I don't know if I'm right though

It's not expected behaviour for your percentage not to move at all for a few hours, something definitely wrong, what's pissing me off even more, no tech sites or YouTubers are speaking about this issue.

Hopefully someone who is running the latest beta, can tell us if it's been fixed.

It’s been like this for 12,11,XS, X 8,7,6.

When you fully charge your phone and is at 100%, when Coconut battery indicates actual is 94%, your phone will go down from 100% to 99%. When Coconut Reads 93% your phone actual is 98%. and so forth. I’ve been using coconut battery since 6 Plus and always been like this for all devices. I consider it normal. That’s why when you use your phone from 100% it tends to stay here for a bit. Same thing if you were to charge your phone to 80% and then unplug it, it will stay at 80% for a while.

I have the automation shortcut with my homekit smart plug set to stop charging at 80% it will stay at 80% for good amount before it goes down.

Why not? Big battery plus 5% gap can give you that impression. If it's intentional, like I think it is, it's gonna stay this way

I'm sure it this, I probably never obsessed about it. And I shouldn't have this time.

Because the readings are totally wrong, it's normal for battery percentage not to move for the first hour when charged to a 100% on the iPhone 13 pro max.

It's not normal for the percentage to be stuck once in the 90s, 80s and so on, until you reboot the phone.

Even the usage graphs don't line up when this glitch happens. 🤦‍♂️
