I’m charging my 13 pro and noticed that it took so long to go from 80 to 81 I then did a reboot and it went to 85. It’s surly a software problem right?
Yep, Apple & tech sites are staying quiet about this, disgusting behavior. 😞

For my case, battery status is stuck right after reboot, but it will drop eventually.
The time taken to drop the first percent depends on your usage.
And this can be repro by simply charging the phone, no need to reboot.
Right after charging, it will take a long time to drop the first percent.

I am on iOS 15 and I tested on both my old IP11 and new IP13PM, both showing the issue.
So quite certain this is not a hardware issue with the new IP13PM.

My test for both phones:
1. charge the phone to 100%
2. after unplug, run a youtube video, it took 35min to drop 1st %
3. thereafter, it only takes about 5min to drop the 2nd %

it also does not matter if you charge to 100% or not.
I have tried charging from 80% to 85% and run the same test, same result.

I don’t doubt what you are saying. It is interesting how these issues sometimes only affects some people and not others. I tried 9to5mac, no issue for me. So far, everything in Safari has been very responsive. I even have multiple tabs open and bounce between the tabs. Everything seems very responsive. In fact, I am blown away with how fast my 13 Pro Max operates. There is the touch not registering issue I have encountered. There are other iOS 15 bugs I have encountered. Nothing has detracted from me really enjoying using the phone.
Here’s another one for you. 🤦‍♂️ Installed 15.0.2 early this morning around 5:30am, it’s now 10pm 👇🤦‍♂️😂😡 apple must be hiring anybody these days. 🤦‍♂️

Storage bug was fixed on 15.0.1. 🤦‍♂️

All right, so I called apple support on this today. Went over troubleshooting together.

Apple said this is a new issue they have not heard of. I told them perhaps you lot should visit forums like this.

2 ways to troubleshoot the battery percentage until their developers “hear of this issue”:

1. soft reset - press volume up and down once and then press and hold power button, do not swipe power down and wait for the screen to reset by itself. Support said this step is akin to “servicing the battery without removing it from the phone.”

2. Turn off optimised battery charging.

I found that turning off optimised battery charging works for now; till the developers come out with an update.

But this is not an excuse for deplorable software management from apple.

That is a forced hard restart.

You found that turning off optimize battery charging would resolve the freezing battery percentage?

If that is the case, then that could be why I have not seen the issue, I have OBC turned off.

I have it turned off since forever and I have the issue. Just this morning before I reboot my phone I was at 82% and 78% after.

I think what you are seeing is a bug in the way iOS is reporting battery percentage. If you look at your phone battery with Coconut Battery on a Mac computer you will see that the actual battery shown in Coconut Battery is different and lower then what iOS reports. Every time that you restart your phone, iOS reads the actual battery and that is why the battery percentage jumps the way it does.

Yea I know that, but why it only happens on my new 13 pro max and not with my old Xs Max, iPad and my father 11? All those devices shows the exact same % after a reboot and all of them are on iOS 15

seems like to does not work once you unplug and start a new charging cycle.

i think we may have to wait for an update to address this.

This makes me think that the battery usage graphs are useless right now given that I think that iOS is not calculating battery usage correctly and it is already known that battery percentage is not updating correctly.

Should I return my phone if I have the battery issue(decrease % after reboot)? I don’t want to deal with an hardware failure and Apple refusing to replace my battery like they did with my old 6s plus when I was right in the end.

It is a software bug in iOS 15.

My storage keeps calculating and doesn't load the categories below and the graph stays blank.
Hate to say it but you may need to restart your phone 😂

You have had some time using iOS 15.0.2. Have you noticed anything worse vs 15.0.1 other then the storage in perpetual calculation? Noticed worse battery life?

I hope Apple fixes the battery usage algorithms in iOS 15.1.

I just updated to iOS 15.0.2 at 100 % and when it came back on it was @ 94%. Is this normal?

refer to the above discussion, I found some truth in this. Plug in long enough, miraculously percentage shoots back up to 100%. Maybe someone can try this too and report back.

apple needs to work the algorithms in the new update instead of “lying a little” to consumers.
I wonder if it has anything to do with charging to 100%. Since I have owned my 13 Pro Max, I have always been charging my phone to 85%.

why do some only charge to 80 or so % i always just charge to 100 overnight lol it doesnt actually save your battery health at all as the battery doesnt actually truely charge to its actual 100%

What does not make any sense about the stuck battery percentage issue, why a DFU does not seem to fix the issue. From what I understand, retiring the OS in DFU, deletes all the data on the phone. So if there was anything corrupted the DFU should repair that situation. I hope Apple gets a fix for this situation in iOS 15.1.
