So I've been tooling around with iOS4, and unfortunately one of the features I use the most appears to be missing. You can't customize the behavior of the home button anymore in Settings, and as such you can't set it to do things like open phone favorites, open the camera or open the iPod controls. This is kind of a downer since I used to use the double-tap for phone favorites all the time.

I know that previous reports about iOS4 said you could double-tap and hold to bring up phone favorites but that's not working anymore, it seems.

    - Holding the home button brings up voice control.
    - Double-tapping brings up the multitasking/recent apps bar along the bottom.
    - Double-tapping and holding does nothing.
    - Triple-tapping does nothing.
    - Triple-tapping and holding brings up voice control.

    :(

Apple is big on not letting its users customize any of the settings, but since double tapping the home button is supposed to bring up the task manager why would they allow you to change that. Kind of makes sense to remove that functionality.

    Things change.

Remember when holding down the Home button killed the current app's process if it was stuck or using too much memory?

Well, that changed a little bit, since you have to hold down the Sleep/Wake button until you see the Power-off prompt, then hold down the Home button.

I do not like my double tap phone favorites being gone. That is how I dialed all of my numbers. Oh well can't have it all. I do like not having to exit and app to reply to a text so I consider it a wash.

Double tap to favorites was used nearly everytime I made a call. That sucks.

I would even go as far to say that it was the MOST USED feature of the iphone for me. Does this mean you take away the double tap for ipod controls too? If so, they need to implement something ASAP.

That sucks ... might have to JB and edit that. I'd rather some other controls bring up multi-tasking.

I thought I read at some point that it was changed to double-tap-and-hold but I'm not positive.

exactly and next to those controls we can now lock the screen so it doesn't go to portrait.

    Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_3 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7E18 Safari/528.16)

I know! I use double tap to get iPod controls all the time so I don't have to leave it in the main apps box, whatever it's called. I think I will manage though. At least, whenever I get the new one. Not sure that's going to be this time.

Double tap to bring up VoiceControls would have been ideal for driving. I have my iPhone docked by my cupholder. That way I could have played songs without messing with my phone.

Can't you get to your phone favorites with a double tap then hold like the post from above says? Sucks that it's not working if it's true. :(

No. Apparently in previous builds of iOS4 that *was* the case, but it is not any more with the gold master. They've also removed the setting that allowed you to assign different things to the home button.

I'd have loved double-tap and hold, or even triple-tap.

I can do it with just ONE tap.

Make sure the phone part is open to favorites.
Tap the home button once to go to the home screen.
Make sure the phone icon is on the dock.

    Now..

EVERY time you tap on the phone icon your favorites are there.

One tap is better than 2 or 3.;)
