Personally I think this 'feature' means it's time for a third button. I would trade multi-tasking to have the phone favorites.

Thanks to everyone who doesn't use the feature for all the unhelpful suggestions. We are all aware of how to make phone calls on the iPhone, we're just the crazy minority who believe making phone calls as conveniently as possible on a phone is pretty high on the ol' priorities list.

I can do it with just ONE tap.

Make sure the phone part is open to favorites.
Tap the home button once to go to the home screen.
Make sure the phone icon is on the dock.

Now..

EVERY time you tap on the phone icon your favorites are there.

One tap is better than 2 or 3.;)

very true... lol

if you have a 3G double tap still works for "home" and "favorites" and whatever else you set it for. you could always downgrade/not upgrade to 3Gs or 4.

I am not trying to be unhelpful I just really don't see how tapping the phone icon then favorites can be that much more inconvenient than double clicking home.

I mean really trade multitasking for it? that seems a little over the top and this is coming from someone who used the double tap to favorites all the time before I put 4.0 on my phone.

True, if you're sitting around the house or at a desk it's not that moving your hand around a few extra strokes is no great inconvenience. But if you're making a phone call on the road it's nice to be able to do most of the work without looking at the phone.

It is inconvenient.
If you were just unlocking and double tapping home while driving or without even looking at your phone to call your favorites for years then this can be an issue.
I hope the tap and hold the second tap works to bring up favorites.
Multitasking bar is great but its great to be able to use the iphone as a phone on the run without having to look at the screen to select icons and favorites location.
It might not be a problem to you but if you were using it for years then it is an unwelcome change IMO.

A. You shouldn't be making a call while driving.
B. HOW do you click twice on the home button and make a call to a favorite without looking at it ?

Uh as I said I have been using it for years also, and it doesn't change the fact that people are making a bigger deal out of this than necessary. Unless you have only one favorite no matter what you are going to have to look and tap on the phone. If thats the case the half second it takes to make the other tap (or possibly two) is completely insignificant.

I do not like my double tap phone favorites being gone.

Double tap to favorites was used nearly everytime I made a call. That sucks.

I would even go as far to say that it was the MOST USED feature of the iphone for me.

That sucks ... might have to JB and edit that.

double-tap to favorites was one of my most used features

I'd have loved double-tap and hold, or even triple-tap.

i am incredibly annoyed by this...

I completely agree. Apple are you listening?

A. I'll call and do whatever I want while driving.
B. if you have been using it like that for years it does become very easy knowing where on the top or middle of the screen a particular favorite is located without looking.

I'm an adult, Oprah. I've actually been capable of having a conversation and driving simultaneously for many years before I ever got a phone.

I'm not Oprah and using a cellphone while driving is illegal in many states. I just hope the person that gets slammed by your car while you're busy on the phone sues your ass off.

This bugs me a little as well... I loved just being able to double tap real quick to bring up the camera! Grrr...

There's no need for this nonsense.
We will do whatever we feel like wether thats talking on the phone, eating, drinking soda or whatever while driving.
That doesnt concern you at all so keep your negative and bitter comments like hope this and that happens to yourself.

um if you hit me with your car or you run over my child while they are riding their bike it certainly does become our business. It is old news that driving and using a phone is bad news, I understand you will continue to do it but to try and justify it by saying you will do what you feel is just silly. Driving is a privilege not a right.

There IS triple-click for home.

I don't know if this is only an option for accessibility users or not. But it's proof it can be done.

Look at the last picture.

Precisely what I was thinking.

I currently have my 3GS set to toggle White-on-Black mode when I triple-tap the home button. Makes it quicker and easier for night reading. I hope this is still around in iOS 4. (Can anybody confirm that?) I know White-on-Black mode itself is only present on the 3GS and above, not sure about the triple-tap setting option.

Posts like yours and ta few above is worthless IMO.
Say and claim what you want.
If it happens to you then call the cops and do whats necessary. Posting and arguing about it here wont change a thing.
Guess what? Millions of people talk on the phone and drive at the same time.
The topic of this thread is about the double-tap home button not your feelings about driving and beeing on the phone.

I have already expressed the fact that I feel like everyone is overreacting to this whole issue.

Now you are taking it a step further and overreacting to the fact that I expect other drivers to be safe. Thing is I ride a motorcycle also and I will take any opportunity I get to express my disgust for people who don't take driving seriously because it is there right to do whatever they want. Don't like it? read elsewhere.

Isn't this technically 2 taps since you have to tap the screen? :p
