    Hey all,

I have been following the forum the past few days and a lot of threads came up about the notch. Not a single thread had clear photos/mock-ups showing how the notch will look. So this got me thinking and I realised there was an option in Xcode where you could simulate iDevices. I immediately downloaded the newest Xcode version and started the 'simulation' mode (btw this is a real recommendation if you're not sure about the notch).

Seeing it 'live' for the first time made me feel at ease. It looked so much better than I had imagined of off Apple's site and video/photos from bloggers with bad angles, cus you know, no one can make decent videos nowadays, it all has to be quick and flashy, anyway I digress.

    Time for pictures!

I am still using my iPhone 5s I bought when it came out and comparing it to the X is mind-blowing. The X is so much larger! (There is a setting in the simulation called 'actual size' which I tested with my iPhone 5s and it was exactly the same size on my screen as it was in my hand - note this will vary because I made screenshots, you'll have to fire up Xcode yourself for a real comparison).

// EDIT made some mistakes with regards to scaling (apparently 'actual size' doesn't work yet for iPhone X in Xcode simulation) + added landscape photos

I see you put a fair amount of work into this, but you may want to revisit those first two photos. You have the iPhone X drastically oversized.

Also, landscape views will make you change your mind again I’m guessing.

Edit: OP has updated the post.

Indeed. I'm not sure this size comparison makes any sense. The reason for the X appearing so large, with seemingly huge UI elements, is probably because of its much higher pixel density and the fact that it uses UI resources @3x. It obviously doesn't reflect the actual size of the device.

I realized from the get that it was a design compromise. Therefore I wasn't offended by the notch.

I figured it was oversized, I guess they haven't really gotten the actual size to work for the X? It did work for the 5s tho so that's weird.

I never use my phone in landscape so it's not an issue for me at all. I did put it in landscape, and I was bothered by the sidebars in safari, but as I never use safari in landscape...

Honestly, I'm getting used to the notch, but I don't use landscape much except in YouTube, which may be a problem. I'll just have to see one to know how I truly feel.

I'm trying to remain optimistic...but deep down I'm sad and somewhat concerned :/

You conveniently left out videos playing in landscape....in 'edge-to-edge' full screen.

    zoomed in landscape = barf.

Why not just black it out and have the carrier/battery info in white? It literally serves no purpose but to look like @ss the way its designed.

I think Jony said of the notch, 'it looks rather cool'...and in fear of Sir Ive, no one on his team dared to disagree.

I like that the area around the notch is active and maybe could be configured in the future to do more than just open up control center.

Thanks for the effort. You make the X look like something you would find at Walmart at the checkout counter, next to the energy drinks.

    This was known months ago.
Its got a more extreme panorama aspect ratio.

Its tall-phone take-2. Iphone 4a to 5 did this. Same width, but taller.

This is the smaller iPhone6 4.7inch. Similar width, stretched tall.
