I need a key app that is supported by iOS5.1. I had to pass on this one.
What is the point of this new redsnow release ?
Anyone can still downgrade from 5.1.1 to 5.1 since apple is still signing 5.1 .
Can use tiny umbrella to save current firmware blobs locally & to cydia without jailbreaking .
Then just use itunes with hosts pointed to sauriks server to downgrade to any firmware you have blobs saved for .
Redsnow makes you update to 5.1.1 first then you can downgrade .
Why would anyone bother when you can downgrade without the extra steps needed using this release ?![]()
Really that clueless?
Its to allow 4S owners to downgrade to 5.0.1 and JB. NOT 5.1
Must be ..
Cant you just use itunes with hosts pointed to sauriks server & downgrade to any version blobs are saved for without using redsnow ?
Again i ask , why would anyone use redsnow to restore to earlier firmware if its possible to do without it ? Takes twice as long to upgrade>downgrade than if you just used itunes . I understand redsnow can jailbreak 5.01 . Thats not my question .

iOS 5 requires a valid APTicket with the SHSH blobs. These AP tickets are time limited, so we weren't able to simply save them and replay them. A4 and earlier devices have the limera1n exploit, so the devs were able to get the processor to validate "old" APTickets.
A5 devices had no such exploit, so it was impossible to downgrade them. This new method uses some kind of trick to validate the old tickets, but it will likely be patched out soon.
