Well. I can't manage for the life of me to get away from 3.0

I am having serious problems with my bluetooth. Everytime I connect it, it takes away sound from the headphone jack, and the only way to get it back is to restart the phone. *sigh*

I have done everything and in every order. But no matter what, I can't get it to accept any other firmware other than 3.0. I have 2.1, and 2.2 and a pwned 2.2 nothin.

I have OSX 10.5.6 so quickpwn won't work. Someone said there was a way to fix the usb driver?

Any suggestions?

Thank you! Easy as pie!

did you try my guide???

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO EASY DOWNGRADE FROM 3.0 TO 2.2.1

on a Windows Computer

1) open itunes
2) get iphone in DFU mode
3) select restore iphone (using the original 2.2.1 firmware, not the custom one)
4) let iphone do the restart process until you get ERROR 1013
5) close itunes
6) open quickpwn. you will get a message saying to hold power and home for 15 seconds. do it exactly like that hold the power and home for 15 secs.
7) turn on iphone by holding power button for 2 secs
8) open itunes and BINGO iphone is recognize and activated

there you go...

PS: iphone works fine on FW 2.2.1 and the newer baseband 04.20.01

Same. Here's what I tried (and it appears to be working but not completely finished yet... oh yes it is! Woo hoo.)

Ok, trying to remember exactly what I did... I tried doing a DFU restore in iTunes as has been described and then I was just at the screen with the arrow and iTunes.

I then opened up pwnage tool and click on the 3G, clicked on the ipsw and it made it. Then it said "go to DFU" and you just follow the on screen instructions (hold power and home for ten, let go of power) Then it'll tell you to go to iTunes and then do an option-restore and choose the ipsw you just made in pwnage and you should be good to go. One thing I noticed is that I got the all white screen on the iPhone (which I handn't before) so if you see that then it should work.

I spent literally 4 hours with a what seemed to be bricked iPhone due to an error in an update. This fixed it instantly. Thank you sooooo much!

for some reason or another i was having problems with quickpwn seeing my phone (os x)... so what I did was restored it in os x....

booted up in Bootcamp on XP and used quickpwn via windows... seemed to do the trick - knocked it right into place :)

*note - you cant do it via parallels... you have to be in bootcamp :)

hope that helps - that only took me like 3 hours to figure out hahah

Well I downgraded to 2.2.1 from 3.0 and I have retained the newer base band. Everything seems normal but one thing. My 3G icon beside my signal bars just randomly vanishes. I open up Safari and it gives me that "no internet connection found" error.

The icon just vanishes and there is no edge icon to replace it either. Wi-Fi works as it should. Could this be an effect of the newer base band on older firmware?

Toggling airport mode reconnects me to the 3G network but doesn't seem to be a permanent solution to the problem.

Anyone having an issue with "not available" for network. The new baseband isn't working after my downgrade. I have 2.2.1, and the new baseband, but no service... Any help is appreciated.. Thanks.

Update -- Forget it. You guys are life savers.... I was not reading the instructions exactly as they were said.
Thanks again.

How have you managed? I have still "not available".

I downgraded last night, but not without problems. The process on the first page worked but after everything was done my phone didn't have any cell phone service. I think this might be because I messed around with the custom carrier settings files from the other threads. Anyway, what I did was make a custom ipsw of firmware 2.2 (2.2.1 would not work for some reason) using the pwnage tool for macs. Then I went back into windows and restored it with itunes in DFU mode. After that my phone rebooted and itunes told me to update the carrier settings file, that fixed my cell phone service. Everything works fine now.

Hey, I have a problem with my downgrade...

I'm using 10.5.6 and have an iPhone 3G

I downgraded to 2.2.1 (jailbroken) but I cannot unjailbreak the phone.

If I press "Restore" or Option-click "Update" and select a previous ISPW iTunes begins restoring the firmware, only for it to result in "An unknown error (1013)" and a bricked iPhone 3G.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I don't really want to use a jailbroken phone.

Just wanted to make sure I could downgrade just in case and this worked perfectly! Thanks!

blank white?

I was finally able to get it. I don't think I was actually in DFU mode, just recovery mode. Once I got to the point where there is the blank white screen and tried to load the 2.2.1 FW it took it. Seems to be working great now on 2.2.1. Thanks!

how did you get the blank white screen?

I am "one of those guys" who enjoys getting the newest, latest and greatest, even when it comes to beta software. I did pay money for the beta and I was more than happy to do so, even if it was not the at it's best yet....certainly not ready for prime time. One thing I do not get is this. Why are people "hating" on those that did this and want to go back to 2.1? Who cares! I know for me at least that I just enjoy learning about these things. I like to learn the"root" of some of the issues that can arise. I potentially want to start writing applications for submission on itunes for my company. I sure as hell would not go out and buy a separate phone to use beta software on! I used my primary one and enjoyed the learning experience for 48 hours and will continue to do so. You know what MacRumors got out of it? A new member. That's what these forums are for! That's why they exist. So calm down about why people upgraded and want to go back now. Yes of course I read the warning and yes I was unhappy with the BETA (for the most part the core software worked perfect but a few of my downloaded apps that I use did not) but if there was a way to go back (which there was because I successfully did it) then why not look for it instead of using the beta till the real thing comes out? Thanks for this tread guys, help me out a lot and taught me some things, much appreciated.

this might be new news to some but i have heard that if you disconnect from the internet and turn off all itunes systems, then back on, then try to update to 3.0. by doing this, its unable to check and bypasses the check.

the only downfall is you hafta disconnect every time you sync, but thats not a bad trade for those with a brick.

if anyone tries this, please post how it worked for you. i havent tried it cause i already got 3.0

Carrier (null) (null)

Ok so I downgraded to 2.2.1 from 3.0 on my iphone 3G via the methods illustrated here. However, I cannot recieve a cell network now. I go under settings, about and it says "(null) (null)" under carrier and "Not Available" under Network. I downgraded on a Windows Vista machine. What should I do?

I've had the no service when I downgraded as well. Actually the first time I downgraded it was fine but I had the pineapple and creepy steve jobs logo on the phone which I didn't want so I re-restored and ever since then I've had the no service issue so I'm sticking with 3.0.

try restoring in itunes with firmware 2.2, not 2.2.1. Put it in DFU mode first.

Had the same thing because I actually finished pwning with quickpwn. All you need to do is open it so you can reset, then open iTunes and activate.

so is the problem that itunes isn't activating it?

Yes. iTunes has to activate the phone in order to get the cell service. When you run the qucikpwn app it activates the phone via a hack which for some reason doesn't work with ATT.

so do I re-install 3.0, then try restoring back to 2.2.1 and quiting the quickpwn when my iphone "wakes up?" Or, can I just restore through itunes to my 2.2.1 firmware restore file?

Update!!!

Please refer to post #57 I have updated the walkthrough, and please I cannot stress this enough FOLLOW IT EXACTLY, it worked for me, I don't see why it wouldn't work for you. I'm using a Mac 10.5.6, with IOUSB 10.5.5 (If you don't know what I'm talking about google "quickpwn" and read about the USB issues with DFU mode). I have also done this on Windows XP and that worked too. As to cell networks, your baseband will not downgrade, that's a given, however, I'm with Rogers, mine works. Good luck.

I got the same error with my iPhone. It was resolved using Big Boss instructions. Google "downgrade 3.0 iPhone" and click the Big Boss link.

I'm on MBA 10.5.6 and entered DFU mode fine. Didn't even need to touch Quickpwn as that site provides iRecovery executable.
