im using quickpwn 2.2.1
should i use quickpwn 2.2.5?

please help!

Ok, I've finally figured this out. This HAS to be done on a PC. I've tried it a million and a half times on a mac. And it doesn't work.

Ok, first if you've upgraded to 3.0 and you're stuck -
1 - find a pc you can use
2 - plug your iphone into the computer via usb
3 - turn the iphone off
4 - put into DFU mode by holding down home and power for 10 seconds exactly, then release power and keep holding home until your pc starts making some noises. it might say down at the bottom of the screen, llike new hardware, apple iphone DFU, something like that. you know you've put into DFU mode correctly when the iphone looks like its off, and in itunes, all it should say is iphone in recovery mode. and the only thing you should see is iPhone. everything else should say n/a.
5 - make sure you've downloaded the iphone software 2.2. shift click on restore, go find the 2.2 ipsw file and click open.
6 - itunes should say its restoring blah blah blah. it should come back with an error code of 1013. this is what you want. (if you get a 1604 code or something like that, go back and redo the whole thing over again, you havent gotten it into dfu correctly)
7 - make sure you've downloaded quickpwn. close itunes after the error code. open up quickpwn 2.2.5. ou should get a message asking you to reset the iphone by holding down the power and home buttons for 15 seconds, then release home and continue holding power for 2 more seconds. do so. once you've done that, dont jailbreak it. it won't work. open up itunes, and your iphone should be activated.
8- dont upgrade to 2.2.1, it will go back to the plug into itunes symbol. just wait 8 days until iphone 3.0 is released and upgrade to that.

good luck hope this helps!

if you've tried downgrading to 2.2, or 2.2.1 you are going to have to re upgrade to 3.0 to follow the above steps. make sure you put into dfu to upgrade to 3.0.

Unable to downgrade to 2.2.1 from 3.0

First of all, I was reading this thread and it was very upsetting to see that people were asking for help and there was a lot of comments trying to lecture people like me for upgrading to 3.0.

Yes, I upgraded my phone to 3.0 and got burned because now I can't downgrade. I have tried everything and still no luck. I hope when the 3.0 comes out on June 17th, I will be able to update my iphone.

My issue is that I don't have the 2.2.1 firmware, I have looked on my computer and I can't find it. I have downloaded the one from quickpwn and it does not work.

Any suggestions would be great. If you are going to lecture me, I will ignore you, so don't waste your time.

hi guys
so I upgraded to 3.0 yesterday when it was released. I have 2 problems, wifi doesnt work greyed out says wifi not available or something of that nature, same goes for BT. I have restored mutiple times and still does not work. It was working fine before.

So now i need to get it back to 2.2.1 is it possible? From the posts I think it is.. I have downloaded the 2.2.2 software but someone mentioned original not the ones for the jeailbreak, can someone point me to the right copy?

I have tried using the ones floating online I think which is used to jailbreak and it does not work error 20 and over and over again, and when I check the phone is still 3.0.

THANKS

Ok. Totally sorry to bother everyone with this issue.
However.

So I upgraded my iphone 2G to the official 3.0 firmware yesterday. But now I'm trying to downgrade it back to the 2.2.1

I'm using WinXP with itunes 8.1.1 (tried with 8.2 as well, no luck) and I've done the whole get into DFU mode process... but then when I tried to restore with my 2.2.1 firmware (iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H11_Restore.ipsw) but here's where the problem came - "error 1600."

I've tried going back and DFU mode my iphone and go through the steps again, but it always comes back with the same error. I've also tried the "methods" of getting pass the error 1600 such as reinstalling itunes, different USB port...etc etc - all no sweat.
NB: I'm sure it is the DFU mode. iPhone black screened, itunes "recovery mode" etc etc...
NBII: I also tried it on my mac. no luck either.

On certain forums, people have claimed that the previous 2.2 (or even 2.0) firmware works. Is this true? I tried to restore with the 2.2 firmware...still; error 1600.

I'm hoping that the new Pwnage Tool (tomorrow..hopefully) will solve my problem.

Anyway. If anyone has any contributions it will be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You can still downgrade 2G iPhone to any firmware even 2.2.1 using my method

You will need ..
1-QuickPwnRC3 download from here ( iphone-hacks.com/downloads/file/138
2-2G Ipsw 2.0.2
3-iTunes 8.2
These steps is to put the iPhone in a mode to allow iTunes to restore to lowers ipsw, if you do DFU the normal way iTunes will give all possibele errors such as 1600, 1601, 20 etc.
Now follow my steps..
A-Open QuickpwnRC3 and follw the steps and select 2.0.2 IPSW and when the screen turn to White color , unplug the USB ( Screen will remians White color).
B-Disconnect QuickpwnRc3
C-Reconnect iPhone
D-iTunes will discover iphone in Recover mode.
E-Shift+Restore to 2.2.1 (with Quickpwn 2.2.5 - http://daniel14.com/QuickPwn-225-2.zip)

Itunes continues the restore process without any erorr

100% works on booth 2G-3G

thanks!

I'm actually trying to jailbreak the 3.0 with the new Pwnage Tool. Hope I'll get some luck. I'll post an update later.

Does resetting all iphone settings get the iphone back to factory defaults with original firmware? I just bought my 3g on wednesday and it came with 2.2.1. I stupidly upgraded to 3.0 and it's been buggy ever since. I've already tried downgading to 2.2.1 with itunes 8.2 and 8.1 for mac. I got an error 1600 on both attempts. Any suggestions?

This took me 2 hours to locate all information and finally get it going so i thought i would go ahead and post what i did and how it worked for me, if any of this has already been said i appologize, but i just dont want anyone thinking about whipping the iphone at the wall, like i almost did.

1. Downloaded QuickPwnRC3 from here ( iphone-hacks.com/downloads/file/138

2. Downloaded 2G ipsw 2.0.2 from a search in google, got it from apple.
i know sounds wierd 2g 2.0.2??? trust me just do it, it worked. When i got it, it was a zip file, i just deleted .zip and put .ipsw

3.Already had itunes 8.2 but if ya dont got it, go get it.

4. download quickpwn 2.2.5-2 from thier site

5. Download 2.2.1 firmware, goole your best friend.

6.Open QuickpwnRC3 and follw the steps and select 2.0.2 IPSW and when the screen turn to White color , unplug the USB ( Screen will remians White color). As soon as that screen turns white PULL IT.

7.CLOSE QUICKpwnRC3

8. Plug the usb back in, and open itunes, it will find it in recover mode. Hold Shift and click restore, and browse to the 2.2.1 you got earlier.

9. Once thats all done and you have that nice error, close itunes, UNPLUG the iphone, that messed me up for a while, hold down sleep/power, and home for 15 secons, 15 seconds, 15 seconds, make sure to wait the full 15.

10. now that we have a black scree plug it in, hold power for 2 seconds, then launch quickpwn 2.2.5-2 and select the 2.2.1 firmware, and i went ahead and let it jailbreak it, went smoothly. Only my carrier did not update, so i wouldnt reccomend letting the jail break process go all the way through. Just get to the rebooting stage, then reboot.

I hope this saves some one a lot of time, cause i wish i had that good of explaination when i tried.

I believe with mac, just get all the mac verions of those and hold control, not shift

OK I JUST READ THAT POST UP THERE, I REALLY SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST SKIMMED THROUGH, INSTEAD OF GOING RIGHT TO THE BOTTOM....... JUST MAKE SURE WHEN YOU DO THE RESET BEFORE USING QUICKPWN 2.2.5-2 THAT YOU UNPLUG IT TO DO THE RESTART IT WONT WORK RIGHT IF YOU LEAVE IT PLUGGED IN.

Just making sure, you are doing this to a 2G phone right? Not a 3G

i'm a bit confused as to why you cant downgrade the baseband. I can remember Ziphone many moons ago having an option to upload a different baseband. After all, the baseband is just software..

Or am i missing something here?

yeah im using a 3g but as you found out it will work on 2g as well, but after everything, it works and all but i am also having issues, not so much with the wifi, or bluetooth, but it hangs in the activation part, im going to further explore things, and i hope to find a fix.

IF still getting 160x error, Try this method
