I can't even remember what I did with QuickPwn, I just sort of loaded it and suddenly my phone said "slide to unlock" and all was good. I used VMWare Fusion.

Does anybody know why QuickPwn in Leopard doesn't seem to work?

Can anybody confirm that after reverting to 2.2.1, we're still using the new version of the baseband (modem firmware) from 3.0 beta? Or does it revert to the old baseband version?

From settings->general->about I see the modem firmware version is 04.20.01. Is that the same as the modem firmware version for 2.2.1 or 3.0 beta?

Yes, it's the new one. You cannot downgrade basebands.

Should be interesting to see what happens when Apple release the next 2.x and how the update handles it. I'm thinking we're going to have to do a DFU restore to the new 2.x since the 4.20.1 baseband will be newer (assuming the next 2.x doesn't change the baseband to that.)

My issue is with step 3. Quickpwn just crashes immediatly both on my Vista bootcamp partition and my windows 2000 VM. Both have ITunes, both have the .NET Framework.

The only option I have left is quickPWN for Mac, which launches fine, but does not recognize the iPhone when connected (I did th USB downgrade to 10.5.5 AND I have it plugged into a USB Hub)

HELP!

Having messed with 3.0 (yes I'm developing apps, I wasn't just dicking around) I decided I needed 2.2.1 back for the stability (because of my 'proper' job as a journo).

Followed some of the guides on here and had serious issues getting my new MacBook to actually complete the setup back on 2.2.1, so here's how I did it in the end - and I DID NOT need to jailbreak the phone:

1 - Set the phone into DFU mode.
2 - Restore the phone on my Mac using the official 2.2.1 software - get an error message from iTunes. The iPhone was now 'stuck' on the USB cable + iTunes icon screen.
3 - Boot camp into Windows - run QuickPwn and plug in the iPhone.
4 - Just having QuickPwn open seemed to kick the iPhone past the initial screen. I could then use the iPhone as normal. I DID NOT need to use QuickPwn to actually jailbreak or modify the phone in ANY WAY. Just having it detect the iPhone kicked the iPhone back into a workable state.
5 - Boot back into OSX and sync as before.

So I've got 2.2.1 back without jailbreaking at all - the only thing different is that the baseband is the newer version, but so far I've had no issues with that.

Hope that helps someone!

Downgrading....

I really like using iPhone 3.0, but the bugs and slowness are making it difficult. I've pretty close to going back to 2.2.1, maybe they'll release another update soon.

I guess you need to find a different Windows PC to do the final step on. Sorry but that's WAY easier than trying to troubleshoot windows.

I'm guessing that there will be no more updates to 2.2 but who knows...

I am wondering what has changed in the latest baseband version. Is there any chance that the newer baseband could mean less dropped calls or better call quality, right? I say that because the baseband controls the wireless radio part of the phone...

This is awesome...decided to downgrade because 3.0 was buggy and slow and now I'm in some weird state. I followed all the steps, but my phone isn't activated. I think it downgraded, but just didn't activate. Anyone having this issue?

For those that downgraded...

How is your data connection acting? I'm having a lot of issues with it where I'll have a full five bars of coverage yet no data connection, i.e. no 3G or E next to the bars. This is happening more often than not (I'd say about 80% of the time I go to use my data) and it's becoming very frustrating.

If this has already been discussed, forgive me. It's a long thread and I don't think I have the patience to read through all the "my pwnzzz aren't werkin'!" comments.

I *think* I had this issue but am not sure. When I first downgraded I had no network (although I heard that QuickPwn tries to activate it won't work with ATT but I'm not sure I read that here.)

Anyways, what I noticed when I did my last downgraded was I left it and I finally got it activated but I was only on Edge when I should have full 3G in my house. I wasn't sure what the issue was, but went out later and had 3G, so I knew it wasn't the phone that was messed up because I could get 3G. Long story short, yesterday I had full 3G at my house. Not sure if they're network was just messed up (directly at my house ) or how it fixed itself. I guess my only advice is wait a couple of days, but I'm just not sure we have the same issue.

I guess if anyone is having trouble with their connection... you could always try resetting the Network settings.

I'm having the exact same problem after downgrading too. I am constantly losing my data connection. Now what???

Perhaps you shouldn't have upgraded to 3.0.

You could try resetting network settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings

Good luck!

After being back to 2.2.1

Yeah. I did it! And there's a serious problem, coz my 3.0 OS has been running for few days and the backup is done by the 3.0 and I can't restore my iphone from the backup cos the firmware is too old. U know what I'm talkin' about. Anyone can help?

Backup up from a 2.2.1 backup....

but I will lose everything...
All the texts/calls that you've made since you've upgraded since 3.0. So no more than a couple days worth... If that's not worth it to you then don't downgrade (although I don't see why just a couple of days worth of data matters THAT much.)

I meant that I couldn't restore from backup cos the iTunes told me that I can't ;/ and I had already had 2.2.1 firmware, but nvm, I'll try tomorrow.

When it asks you if you want to restore from a backup choose a backup that was done before 3.0 was installed.

You can also control-click on the iPhone in the sidebar and click on restore from backup.

I'll tell ya tomorrow if this was sucessful.

I am also having weird data issues. If I turn on airplane mode and then turn it off, that usually fixes it but it's still annoying. Does anybody notice a difference after resettings network settings? I guess I'm going to try that now.

The issue with Edge / 3G not working seems to happen after letting the phone sleep for a while...
Can anybody confirm this?

ok i just tried i got the error 1013 .. but then i did as it said. i opened quickpwn and it still says connect device... i am on the usb cable and itunes logo

how do i get it working.. i am on mac. NOt 10.5.6

I was one of the first ones to post about the data problem. My 3G logo just vanishes pretty frequently. Going into airplane mode fixes the problem temporarily. Well I've been tampering and this is what I've come up with.

I downgraded from 3.0 using one of the methods mentioned in this thread and stayed with OFFICIAL FIRMWARE 2.2.1. I eventually got around to jailbreaking with Quickpwn 2.2.5 for mac and after I did that my data connection problems vanished. So for those of you who are fine with jailbreaking your phone then this might be the solution to your problem. For those of you who want to keep the official firmware... I'm not sure what to tell you exactly.

ok i tried it on my GF computer i got the hold for 15 seconds then 2 seconds.. but

now i am getting the quickpwn has stopped working pop up.. how do i fix this on a pc
