I DO NOT TAKE CREDIT FOR THIS!

1. Attempt a restore of 2.2.1 in DFU Mode

2. Get the iTunes error message.

3. Reset device

4. Launch QuickPwn

5. Press next and get past the first 3 steps.

6. Bam, phone is fixed.

EDIT: It does work, just tried. iPhones baseband will still be updated but 2.2.1 works fine on it.

This may work on a PC.
IT WILL NOT WORK ON A MAC!
Quickpwn does not give the 15 second restart message, and the phone will not go into emergency call mode so you can activate.
There is yet to be a baseband downgrade for the 3.0 Beta Baseband for mac.
If I am wrong, I have not found it.

Any help would be appreciated. I have to go on a trip and would hate for the 3.0 upgrade to expire while 3k miles from my desktop.

3g network off and icon on and off

I guess if anyone is having trouble with their connection... you could always try resetting the Network settings.

Hi did the upgrade to 3.0 then decided to go back to 2.2. now the internet 3g icon goes missing and returns when it feels like IT????????? Any one else having the same problems with the downgrade

With a Mac if you follow the Gizmodo directions the downgrade works flawlessly and the iPhone 3G works perfectly with zero problems of any kind.

My 3G and E icons also disappear out of the blue sometimes, although it usually continues to work on data. A couple of times, however, it just wouldn't work at all until I rebooted the iPhone.

Other than that, I haven't experienced any bugaboos since downgrading back to 2.2.1.

i was running 3.0 ever sense it came out and it can get bogged down (especially if you dont have fre memory), but i just now downgraded by following these steps. ive done the whole winterboard thing before and i think you can get edge and 3g icons that will stay there. im not for sure cause my phone just turned back on but those should work.

downgrade from 3.0 beta 2

After all of the problems with Beta 1, I finally downgraded this morning. I was just wondering if anyone has attempted this with success with beta 2?

I have a few questions. I have gone through the downgrade process many times with no luck. I am not going through quickpwn to jailbreak, only opening the app and then reconnecting to itunes. I still can not get it activated with AT&T. My questions is when opening quickpwn I get the message about holding down home and power for 15 seconds then hold down power for 2 seconds. What is the actual process to do this, is my phone supposed to be shut off first then do this or should it be on? Do I hold both for 15 then let go of home and keep holding power for 2, or do I hold both for 15 and let go of both then press power again for 2 seconds? I think this may not be working because I am not doing this process correct. In all cases though, my phone has eventually displayed the "slide for emergency" then I connect to itunes and set up as new phone and it never activates, but it is out of recovery and operates fine except for calls.

UGH...I"m getting no service bars after downgrading from Beta 2 to 2.2.1...

This is a triumph. I have successfully UPGRADED to 2.2.1 from 3.0b2. Everything works, no messy backup/restore/QuickPWN. No errors either. This is on a 1st gen iPod touch from 10.5.6.
Step 1: Get the 2.2.1 restore file, anywhere's fine.
Step 2: Plug in your iPod, wait for sync to finish, etc etc
Step 3: Option-click on "Check for Update", find your 2.2.1 restore file
Step 4: Wait for the "Update" to finish, enjoy stability again!

That's how you're suppose to do it. I tried updating and it failed... Had to do a restore.

Yah, mine is doing that...if you find a perm. solution, let me know.

I think it only works for iPod touches, the iPhone has funky baseband stuff. One thing I noticed after "Updating" was that my Mail settings were nowhere to be found, and more troubling, my apps wouldn't launch. To fix that, I rebooted, deleted a couple apps and redownloaded them. I then rebooted again, and everything worked perfectly.

In order to use any mobile phone, it has to be activated on the network to make calls and stuff.

Wrong. No other phone needs to be "activated" this way except for the iPhone.

This "activation" is Apple making sure you have an AT&T SIM card in there to use it.

Not saying that other phones don't have the ability to be locked to a network by a carrier. But this is the first time that not only does the phone go into "Emergency Calls only" mode, but it also denies you access to the interface at all.

With any other phone you would be prohibited from placing anything emergency calls, but you would have full access to the UI and all your data and applications.

With the iPhone you cannot even use it as an iPod touch if you choose to unless you "activate" it with Apple/AT&T.

I obviously was talking about making and receiving calls. Every phone that uses SIM cards, needs an activated SIM card in it to make and receive phone calls. Read my post again please.

SO there is no way to downgrade the base band and get to 100% 2.2.1?

I have a 3g 16gb and access to pc and mac.

I just tried downgrading, I went through all the steps listed, got the 1013 error, closed iTunes, opened Quickpwn. That is where I run into trouble, Quickpwn doesn't recognize the phone and does nothing, then Itunes opens and tells me I need to restore it.

I'm using a Mac, with 10.5.6 and iTunes 8.1. Any ideas?

Use PwnageTool to make a custom firmware. Then restore to the custom firmware using iTunes. Don't use QuickPwn. Then you'll be jailbroken, but you can restore again afterwards to a normal 2.2.1 firmware.

I actually had a 2.2.1 firmware from PwnageTool which I tried to restore with, that is when I got my 1013 error. I'm not too concerned, I'll stay with 3.0 if I can't figure out a way, I knew what I was getting into when I upgraded.

Gizmodo directions the downgrade???

I'm Dumb!

I tried these steps but I get an error 1604. Any thoughts?

Same issue I get 1604. Is there any way to get the UUID once the phone has been upped to 3.0? It shows the IMEI and SN. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Correct me if I am wrong but when the official 3.0 update comes out, you will be able to upgrade to this esentially returning your phone to non-dev state. The dev site mentions the ability to run future gm firmware. I would just stick it out. For me 3.0 works good enough for my dev testing, and I use my device for day to day use as I am just a small dev house. I was not in the program during the 2.0 betas so maybe a dev from then can comment on what happens to your device when you update to a gm release firmware.

I would but I am a developer for 3.0 and would really like to start testing and stuff. I also had the thought that I could wait but..... I want it now! :)

Its my own fault for not reading completely. I was hoping that I could at least get it running.

Thanks!

this worked for me!!!!

PLEASE PAY ATTENTION TO EASY DOWNGRADE FROM 3.0 TO 2.2.1

on a Windows Computer

1) open itunes
2) get iphone in DFU mode
3) select restore iphone (using the original 2.2.1 firmware, not the custom one)
4) let iphone do the restart process until you get ERROR 1013
5) close itunes
6) open quickpwn. you will get a message saying to hold power and home for 15 seconds. do it exactly like that hold the power and home for 15 secs.
7) turn on iphone by holding power button for 2 secs
8) open itunes and BINGO iphone is recognize and activated

there you go...

PS: iphone works fine on FW 2.2.1 and the newer baseband 04.20.01

i even opened my phone lol with the screws on the bottom which i recommend you DONT do! but in the end I found this post and it solved my 2 day problem which even the APPLE STORE could not fix unless i was going to replace my phone for $199... THANK YOU
