There are no goofy animations and slow transitions, it is working like a silk
actually. I am starting to thing that all you guys that are complaining about
this thing have either broken computers, are not talking about GM or have a bunch
of extensions that are not supported by lion which make os not working properly.

Second, i saw many complains about the new workflow introduced by lion, and those
complains comes from people that call themselves power users. First of all something
that is new in lion and it is great is possibility of peeping in to the spaces that are next
to the displayed space. Which is great if you for example you are currently working in
a Cinema 4D but you have a sketch made in lets say illustrator and you
just need a quick lets say composition check. Also another example is if you are
working on a lets say book in the InDesign and you want to make a quick check
of the text so you can apply correct typographic styles in its place, but keeping
text in InDesign active.

A lot of people wrote that spaces in lion are bad because they are “linear”. The truth
is, that except for the “peeping” ability which, again is great feature, spaces in lion
are only displayed in a different way from the spaces in SL, but the fact is that they
are working the same. What i am trying to say is that if you have 12 spaces active in
a grid (SL) you can either use your keyboard (numbers - the fastest way), arrows or
gestures to change between the spaces. That means (lets say set up of the grid is 3+3+3+3)
that if you want to get from space 1 to space 8 by gestures, the fastest
way is to go (1) RIGHT, (2) RIGHT, (3) DOWN - assuming of course that you did not
get lost in your own grid. So you need at least 3 steps to get to desired space, which
means, if you are not gonna use the numbers on a keyboard that you will probably expose
all spaces and choose the space you are looking for, that is 2 steps.
Lion, first of all can rearrange spaces automatically by its usage so if at the moment you
are using space 1 and 8 most of the time they will come close, which i found great as well,
and second if you want to get from space 1 to space 8 using gestures, you are not gonna
swipe like a mad man, it is most likely that you will go to the mission control (1) and chose
desired space (2), and that is exactly the same number of steps as in SL.

Not to mention lunchpad, versions, disk encryptions, recovery HD partition
and so on...

I think that you guys should just try to change your workflow, like i did, and you will
see that GUI decisions made in lion make a lot of sense. That goes for reverse
gestures as well, it took me few days until i completely adapted.

Actually i like lion so much, that now even my backup with repairing tools is lion.
It is just much better than SL and is super cheap.

Just my modest opinion, no offense to anyone.

This doesn't really have to do with Lion, more to do with Safari 5. In another thread, I've posted that Safari no longer remembers your credentials (if you set to "remember me" on some sites). Well it does only if you don't select "Private Browsing". Once you select Private Browsing, all credentials are not used until you deselect it and although it makes some sense I really dislike it.

For me, I really hate leaving history around and I don't need it to remember where I've gone to because I bookmark the necessary sites and put them in the bar. My current setup in SL, I've input all my credentials to all the sites I frequent and they're saved and I've created a script so when I open Safari, it opens with Private Browsing enabled. Although it's not a big deal, I'm very disappointed in this addition assuming it's not a bug.

I like most of the changes in Lion.
Some of them need some getting used to, and there are some minor things I don't really like, such as the new looks of iCal or Address Book.

And while it all works pretty well on my mid-2010 iMac, I unfortunately did have to downgrade to SL on my brand new MBP, which is my production machine at the moment.

It simply kept crashing. No kernel panic, just complete freeze and lockup.
Switching graphics cards failed 60% of the time, wakeup from sleep didn't work most of the time, and sometimes it froze immediately after startup.

Now that I'm back to SL, it all works perfectly again.
I really hope that 11A511 won't be the build they are going to release. That would lead to disaster. I haven't experienced such grave problems since DOS 3.1 and Windows 3.0.

it's really odd but i have been running GM on my 2010 15" mbp for a while now and the first weeks i had no technical issues whatsoever, but ever since last weekend i am also experiencing freezes. no crashes but the freezing of the entire desktop with the only solution is using the power button to hard reset it. booting also takes much longer all of the sudden.

Don't get me wrong, but I'm glad to hear that. I already started thinking I'm the only one with this problem.
Do you recall having made any changes, i.e. installed something that might be causing it?

In my case, it got better when I turned off the graphic card switching in Energy Prefs. I was able to work with the MBP for a week or so, then it started freezing on startup and I finally went back to SL, as I am working out of town at the moment and can't afford my work horse to be bricked.

I still dislike it as much as the first time I saw it in preview screenshots back in late March. Many people (myself included) seriously thought it was an April fools' joke. Obviously it wasn't .

I will have to investigate more if my battery life has been reduced again. Otherwise my notebook fans spin up much more often. Perhaps that is just summer though. I can burn myself with my Macbook if I am not careful.

How long will Apple support Snow Leopard once Lion officially comes out?

Well, my guess will be as good as yours.
Based on past experience, I would say that security patches will probably be rolled out via Software Update for another year or so.
If that's what you were asking.

Yep just downgraded

So today I've got sick of Lion (Golden Master).

I hated versions, resume and mission control. But when I went back to Snow Leopard I immediately noticed it's much faster than Lion. And it fells more like an advanced OS to me.

Anybody downgraded yet? Or is planning to? Or is just me?:p

To me Lion is a big dissapointment. Just downgraded to Snow Leopard. Mainly the way Apple tries to simulate an iPad and the monochrome icons, the dissapearance of the smart folders in the finder and so on. I bloody hate it. Sorry Apple, Lion is to me as Vista was for Windows users.

I am happily back on Snow Leopard. I really missed my functioning Exposé.

On a more technical note, the VNC server was very fickle under Lion (repeated disconnects at the login window are the most frustrating) and smbd ran away with CPU cycles like no ones business.

How did you guys go about reverting to Snow Leopard and keeping everything in tact?

I can't work with Lion. I have probably 55 Safari windows open and they are all piled on top of each other. How do they expect one to be able to see what they're working with?

I backed up my user space independently of my system files before reverting back to my last Time Machine backup of Snow Leopard. (Do not forget your hidden Library under Lion either.)

I made sure to have a last best Snow Leopard state before upgrading to Lion. Once I was back under Snow Leopard I overwrote my older user directory with the slightly newer one from Lion.

Unfortunately, I'm not following you. Oh shoot. I might be stuck waiting for a hack to get spaces back?

New MBA

I wanted to buy the new MBA but Resume will drive me crazy. It is the worst part of my iPad experience. I have a Snow Leopard thumb drive from my 2010 MBA, can I install that over Lion on a new MBA?

Never mind I found the answer on the MBA Forum. No I can't.

Man, this happens EVERY FREAKING YEAR. No offense to anyone, but when new Apple Software/Hardware releases, people go crazy about criticizing it. Examples? (in addition to post#14)
New Macbook Pro unibody design. Many people complained the edges are too sharp and hated the glossy panel. Do we still complain and rage? I doubt all of us do.
New iPod Touch 4th generation. Still the same chrome backing and horrible camera. I think people got over it, and thought for themselves that there isn't a MP3 like the iPod Touch 4g.
iPhone 4? Antenna gate. I doubt people still rage about it. Get a case, and that's it.
I still remember when people were complaining that Leopard was not worth $299. Few months later, people liked it.

I tell you now, that by September when new iDevices will be released, there won't be any major complaint about Lion. Give Apple some time, for god's sake. I don't think anyone here expects 'perfect' OS, right? It's still 10.7.0.

People have been complaining every year only ever since Apple started releasing flawed products. Prior to 2006 or 2007, there were no such complaints when new products were released.

I don't get why the four finger swipe is the same gesture as the 3 finger swipe. This new OS isn't making things simpler...it's making things more complicated.!!!!! What did I play 30 bucks for?

Yeah real high memory usage, the worst of all was to be unable to hide all the windows with the 4 finger swipe. Mail was nice indeed. Let's hope they give an option to disable those features. No more choppy animations for me:D

You're just doing the 4 finger swipe wrong. Go look up the correct way to do it in system preferences.

I'm considering it.

Launchpad is nice, but I'll likely never use it.

Not a fan of Mission Control at all. I don't like the new linear concept of Spaces. The old Spaces made work go by so quickly and smoothly. Now MS is just a steaming pile of clunky crap. Why do I want multiple desktops to do what Spaces did? Am I missing something and doing it wrong?

Even if there are that many windows open with one app, just select anyone and then swipe 3 fingers down, and you get "app exposé", and it'll show every window open from that app.

That's not true. It doesn't show every window. They are layered haphazardly, covered over partially or many windows flat out hidden.

I downgraded back to Snow Leopard too. What's with all those convoluted gestures? Firefox gestures didn't work for me anymore. Pixelmator which I downloaded from the app store would also crash on startup every time. Launchpad is nice on a iPad, not on a laptop. Mission Control looks a mess. The natural scrolling is well.. un-natural. Note to Apple: natural scrolling works fine on touchscreens, but not when you are using a mouse.

Natural scrolling can be disabled in Lion.

Also, I'm assuming Firefox will update soon to be accommodating to Lion. And no one said you have to use Launchpad.

Does anyone know how to downgrade to Snow Leopard without losing ANYthing when Snow is a DMG on the desktop and not DVD?

IDK how to do the Control C thing with a DMG?

some right ****s in this thread aren't there - if you don't like it downgrade and don't go back?

don't think it needs slagging off quite so bad.

its 2011 - times move on - people needs change - markets change ..

apple has appealed to the masses, not this minority group on an internet forum.

get over it
