Just to clarify, you mean the one that comes in the Mountain Lion DP4 update, right? Not the crappy watermarked one?
Yeap the one in DP4.

Ah, okay. Not just me then. I wonder if Apple are going to update it in the GM, or if this is the largest image they have?
If you some some killer original photos for free, up to 24MP, go to Trey Ratliff's site http://www.stuckincustoms.com
His HDR photography is stunning and he doesn't charge for downloads, even the full size images.
Here is a sample, I've been using it as a wallpaper for a while and just about everyone asks about it. Be prepared to spend a lot of time on his site if you like photography or collect great wallpapers!

Well the photo is a massive file, with a resolution up to 3200px, but I found it hard that they used it to show off a Retina MacBook if it is so blurry.
Sigh. The entitlement of some people here is hard to stomach. That photo wasn't easy to make. Let's just ignore the camera and all the other hardware he needs just to make photos. For this specific photo he needs plane tickets to some place that has zebras, probably a hotel and he has to rent a helicopter, probably several times for the right weather and the right shot.
He is obviously not going to give it to you for free if you ask him. No sane person would do that.

If you were the author of that photo do you think you'd want people just grabbing it for free. Plus he probably has some contract with Apple. It's his job as an artist. It's how he pays his bills and feeds his family.
I plan on paying for it with ML, and the image is floating around the Internet anyways. No one's losing any profit here. I don't adhere to weird copyright situations like that, the image is completed and I am going to pay for it therefore I will grab it now and pay for it at the first available opportunity. It's going to be displayed on my personal computer in a room where no one else goes but me. No harm to the artist paying his bills.
So the image will be in ML? That means millions of users will have it for free. And the dude still charges money for it? LOL.
L.E. I opened the 1440 version. Looks like crap, seriously. Not that sharp and the colors are a little off. Don't know why so many people want it.
Don't worry, I'll find some other way to find it.
People and organizations who are unnecessarily protective of that stuff even after receiving a large check from Apple deserve it. I'll pay my royalties when I buy ML, but for now it'll be a pirate for me.
I dont get why people are so obsessed over this damn picture of zebras.
Guys, I think you're all forgetting, the issue is not only with this Steve guy being greedy, we need to show some respect for the poor Zebras who get no compensation for such a clear intrusion of privacy rights.
So I thought the wallpaper came with the DP4 of ML?
Surely those posted on flickr can't be the sharpest, highest quality images? I really wouldn't pay $50 for them!
ANyone got a high quality one?
I have DP4 and the Zebra wallpaper came up at a resolution of 3200 by whatever pixel, but it is blurry, literally crap.
