Unlike you, I don't get off on this embarrassing apology culture we've become. You are not even remotely equipped to judge Dre's level of repentance. But by all means, keep on judging.
Nobody is "get[ing] off" to this. The guy attacked a woman, apologised (hooray!) but then tried to prevent her getting compensation for it.
Do you not think that's pretty vile?

i thought it was dr.dre who was apologizing.
i read maybe the first 5 pages and didn't see anyone normalizing and accepting domestic abuse.. are you sure you're reading things at face value instead of putting your own twist on it?
I was replying to one person who tried to normalise it. You're free to go through my post history or search my name in this thread to find it. I'm on my phone now so I don't have such abilities at hand. It's pretty upsetting to see. People saying "it's just the way the culture he was brought up in", "you weren't there", "why should he apologise?" etc.

It has nothing to do with privilege. Nothing at all. Unless you are haying at heart we as humans are savages and violent. Which I don't think to be the case. Sure we are products of our environment but when you do bad things it makes no difference. And excusing it as being a product of your environment is pretty poor. Where does that line stop?

I also find it quite funny that companies support some that make bad decisions while letting others hang out to dry for far less offenses. The double standard in the US is appalling. We have women raping kids (http://www.people.com/article/molly-shattuck-gets-48-weekends-jail-raping-15-year-old-boy) and getting light sentences while a man does the same thing and we want his nuts cut off. The crime is the same, the victims pain is the same yet the double standard.

Forgiveness is important and something we all should do but I have a feeling had this been some white guy saying the N word or someone else saying he is against gay marriage there would be no support for them and they would be out the door.

Yes of course humans are savages and violent lmao. Do you realize we are the most parasitic and deadly species to ever exist? 30,000 years ago we wiped out all other large and non-homo-sapien species off the earth. Upon arrival to any zone on earth we caused mass extinction.

We are apex predators and parasites genetically speaking.

Its only school and parents and society that teaches us not to rape and murder and steal.

Maybe you don't understand science and sociology.

Or that some people have higher levels of natural testosterone than others at certain ages.

Raping minors, or drugging and raping women is different than slapping some dumb "ho" that is getting in your face acting like a wild dumb*ss and pretty much asking for it.

Its well established that "victims" of this type of behavior get addicted to the rush of emotion and antagonize and bring it on themselves in some sick fascination with the drama.

Eminem even made jokes about Dr Dre slapping that woman in one of his most popular mainstream songs. And even then Dre was apologetic knowing its never ok to hit a woman. But at the same time that scenario was between two dramatic consensual adults.

Not rape on a Cosby level or the Subway guy level.

Murica, where you can be a dirtbag thug and get rich from it.

Actually Dr Dre was considered a nerd and soft by "thug" standards.

It was Suge Knight and his affiliates that were the dirt bags.

He was one of the most highly revered urban music producers of this generation along with Kanye West.

And I promise you if attention was brought to the past misdeeds of an anonymous rank and file Apple engineer, that person would be quickly shown the door.

I understand your point - mine was in regard to the self-righteous, "I'll never use beats, I'll never buy Apple stuff" anymore that becomes prevalent in these discussions.

Receiving forgiveness in America is easy as long as you are rich and blessed by a socially liberal megacorporation.

Josh Duggar also gave a very contrite apology. How's that working out for him?

Sad fact is, the U.S. Public (I'm a US citizen as well) has the attention span of a fly. Josh Duggar will catch more hell as an exposed cheater on Ashley Madison than he ever will for being a child molester. Thats just effed up no matter how things work. But its an ugly fact.

For the record.....its just something I'm throwing out there.....

You always hear about how the media serves some agenda politically (I'm speaking very very generally here).....I disagree. I don't think most Mass Media really serves a political agenda....some outlets might cater to the left or right, but not as much as those respective sides would care to have the opposite side believe.

The Media does have one agenda: The media will hands down serve and look out for itself, period and forever.

You want to call any outlet liberal or conservative? Sure, you would be partially right. But when it all comes down: it doesn't matter. If the pres, or some Senator / Congressman gets caught with his / her pants down, with someones mouth on the parts where the pants should be......watch how fast it gets reported. Cash and clicks are todays game....doesn't matter so much what side you're on anymore.

Most of us have done things we're not proud of, and apparently he's as human as the rest of us. Who would have guessed? It takes a strong man to work to overcome his problems like this. I support this guy. :)

Yeah most of us don't beat up women though... IMO not a good look when he's built his name in a profession filled with misogynistic videos/lyrics.

If it was like 'hey I was kicked out of high school for smoking at school and being a dirtbag' then I can dismiss his actions. But beating up women? We have a confession... she could call the cops and ask for his arrest. Could probably sue for trespass too.

Actually Dr Dre was considered a nerd and soft by "thug" standards.

Yeah, he was a good boy. He was just about to leave the thug life and focus his energy on med school. "Nerd" and "soft," what a joke.

I bet you wouldn't have made such a foolish statement if your mother, daughter, spouse had such an encounter with "soft" "nerd" Dre. Or maybe you still would. Sad. Hopefully for you, any females in your life don't see your post.

"He picked her up by her hair and “began slamming her head and the right side of her body repeatedly against a brick wall near the stairway” as his bodyguard held off the crowd with a gun. After Dre tried to throw her down the stairs and failed, he began kicking her in the ribs and hands. She escaped and ran into the women’s rest room. Dre followed her and “grabbed her from behind by the hair again and proceeded to punch her in the back of the head.”[3]

As Dr. Dre explained the incident, “People talk all this ****, but you know, somebody **** with me, I’m gonna **** with them. I just did it, you know. Ain’t nothing you can do now by talking about it. Besides, it ain’t no big thing – I just threw her through a door.”

Yeah, a real softy.

Yet we criticize and ruin Paula Dean's life over some word she used years ago? When her actions show clearly that she is not that type of person?

Why is it fair to give Dre a "Free pass" for BEATING women and ruin someone's life for uttering a word?

Why do we have this double standard?

The difference is Paul Deen is STILL that same person therefore still doing it.

You're talking about some hood-rat from Inglewood/Compton like as if she is mother Teresa

Lmao

"Females" can be thugs too. Its not like you were there or know the details of what happened.

That story up there sounds exaggerated. Nobody really knows how it really went down. Or how it was instigated. To what degree was he doing these actions? How long did this scuffle take place. Sounds like it could have been anywhere from 3 seconds to 3 minutes. Could have been just chaotic nonsense or could have been violent and brutal. But the wording is vague and victim-centric. Like written by someone trying to dramatize and color the scenario with incriminating descriptors.

Dr Dre never went into detail of what happened besides just downplaying what happened. Allegedly it was a slap all the times I've ever heard it been joked about.

This "innocent woman" who could have been "my mother" probably did something to make him snap.

Why do you think Rhianna got back with Chris Brown after what happened? Do you ever ask yourself what she actually did?

Your whole rendering of the story is so out of touch and reeks of SJW like how people say; being a victim is all the rage right now.

Wow, scary reply. Hopefully, women around you, if any, see it and realize it might be a good idea to keep their distance. They might do something to "make you snap" and find themselves in serious danger.

“They’ve grown up with the mentality that it’s okay to hit women, especially black women. Now there’s a lot of kids listening and thinking it’s okay to hit women who get out of line.”[3]

She's right (in the above quote). And apparently you're one of them.

"Its not like you were there or know the details of what happened." "...That story up there sounds exaggerated."

Are you familiar with the meaning of hypocrisy and irony?

Edit: Looks like you edited your post after I replied to try and soften it up a bit and insert a few desperate excuses. Readers should read my quoted message for the original.

By the way, those questions you added to your reply, I'm sure those are the exact questions and concerns you would be considering if your mother, daughter, spouse were victimized.

You really reaching now.

Grasping for straws much?

Wasn't Dr. Dre himself raised by a black female?

Keep their distance? If anything they might be attracted more about my "bad boy persona." You're actually the one that seems like you don't have many women around you.

Look at Dr. Martin Luther King (another fake Doctor, plagiarized his PhD), he has a national holiday named after him and is often compared to Lincoln...

"King would often use church donations to have drunken sex parties, where he would hire two to three white prostitutes, occasionally beating them brutally. This has also been reported by the FBI agents who monitored King. King was married with four children."

Apples' response......

This reply is what we call a red herring. It's also rather incoherent.

And scary again, that you think your women beating "bad boy persona" would attract all the ladies.

All Im trying to say is that we are all human and nobody is perfect, not even women.

Its not your place to judge. This has already been settled out of court with the law.

Lots of otherwise great men have flaws. Steve Jobs used to go on druggie vacations for example.

Apple is not gonna fire him or anything.

"After her 1990 interview with Ice Cube in which the rapper discusses his leaving N.W.A. at the height of their feud,[2] the group, feeling they had been negatively portrayed, sought retaliation. On January 27, 1991 Dr. Dre encountered Barnes at a record release party in Hollywood."

"N.W.A.’s MC Ren later said “bitch deserved it,” and Eazy-E “yeah, bitch had it coming.” As Dr. Dre explained the incident, “People talk all this ****, but you know, somebody **** with me, I’m gonna **** with them. I just did it, you know."

Yeah, how dare she write something that Dre and his gang feel negatively portrayed them. That type of imperfect behavior deserves a vicious beating, apparently, according to you.

Its not your place to judge.

Are you the "judge" police? Dre is a public figure hired by and representative of a public company, Apple. I can and will judge that the decision to bring such a negative figure (Dre, who still to this day behaves like an immature juvenile) into an executive position of the company was idiotic, hypocritical, and inexcusable, among other things.

You didn't research red herring, did you? Because you did it again, particularly, with your "otherwise great men have flaws/Steve Jobs comment.

Sounds about as genuine as one can be. He got out of trouble and has spent a quarter century moving on to better things in life. And he doesn't appear to be making excuses or pretending it didn't happen. That's really all I could ask.
This is all that needs to be said about the matter. He could have hired a lawyer and shut his victims down Cosby style. Instead he chose to offer a sincere apology making it clear that his situation at the time was no excuse for his behaviour (even if it offers a nature/nurture explanation).

The last quarter century of his life alone should be a testament to his progress as a person willing to improve.

The only thing sad/bad about this situation is how late this apology has come. But avoidance is a very human coping technique, which both sides seems to have been taking until the spotlight was shone upon it recently.

Research the words racism and intolerance. How about that.
