One of the first things I noticed too when I was looking over the tracklist. It's not just rap though, it's the same with almost all of pop music in general now.

This is how up and coming artists get their name out there in the hip-hop world. There would have never been a Snoop Dogg without The Chronic. G Thang made his career happen. Although there are quite a few big names on here (helps sell current album), there are a lot of relative unknowns to get to know. Can't wait to give this album a digital spin.

For those of you confused why this is such a big deal (or for those of you who are unfamiliar with rap / hip hop), let me break it down:

4. The hiphop genre has been overloaded with clowns like Fetty Wap, Young Thug (the names alone should tell you something) and a bunch of other talentless idiots that bring down the entire genre. It's about time that a real genuine hip hop album comes along to remind us what hip hop should sound like.

5. Dr. Dre is proofing with this album that he fits perfectly into the Apple family..... After Apple just made him a billionaire he seizes this opportunity to make a truckload of money by releasing his first album in 16 years. :)

I hope it's not watered down. Ever since Dre came on to Apple, I expected his image to completely change. But he's still himself. He still swears and talks about weed if you listened to his show.

Awesome news! I can't wait for the film & it's always exciting when Dr. Dre puts out some new tunes!

P.S. for the haters:

When you diss Dre, you diss yourself.
Learn about music history, and understand the monumental role that Dr. Dre has played in music.
There is amazing music to be found in EVERY SINGLE genre. I just feel sorry for the close minded people that are missing out.

For those of you confused why this is such a big deal (or for those of you who are unfamiliar with rap / hip hop), let me break it down:

1. Dr. Dre hasn't released an album in over 15 years. His 3rd and final album was supposed to be called Detox and over time it became somewhat of a white whale, not only in hiphop but in the entire music industry. Around 2009 there were rumors that Dr. Dre had recorded around 400 songs for Detox but the album never showed up. Long story short, we all kind of assumed that Dr. Dre would never release anything else other than headphones. This is a big part of why this unreleased album that we can't even hear snippets of, is already the top selling album (of all genres) on iTunes.

2. Dr. Dre is one of the best producers in music. Songs that Dre made back in the 90s still sound great today. I can pretty much guarantee that this album will have top notch production on every track.

3. Dr. Dre introduced some of the biggest rappers of this generation including: Eminem, 50 Cent and Kendrick Lamar.

For those of you wondering why there are so many features, this is because Dr. Dre is more of a producer than a rapper.

I've got news for you: all rap is trash. Complete and utter trash, save for the odd track in the 80s.

The best thing that could happen to all rappers is for them to retire from inflicting their violence on the rest of the world. Perhaps we should send them all to that new planet discovered recently, where they can shout at each other to their hearts' content.

Otherwise, there's always Australia, Great Britain's former penal colony. Plenty of empty space for them there (even though it's a bit hot).

I don't care what race you are, you have a musical spectrum ranging from pure art to trash, and in the middle, a blend of both. You've got jazz, and you've got hip hop. You've got classical and you've got pop. With so few exceptions they barely register as a statistic, commerce has always favored garbage, because it is easy.

No amount of complaining will change the nature of this beast.
I'm just disappointed to see apple lower itself to the bottom of the barrel as well.

Isn't he clever!

He must be very cool if he swears and talks about weed. Just what Tim Cook is looking for.

Would that be seaweed or the pond variety?

Rap is ghetto trash. Always has been and always will be. Don't try to dress it up.

dr dre is ghetto trash and Apple is better off without people like him.

Looks like this article got relegated to the sidebar. I'm not surprised. Apple is totally out of touch if they think this is going to help their subscriptions in any meaningful way.
I'm not sure if this is sarcastic or not.
but...while this alone may not boss subscriptions...I see it as a way to keep the idea alive to other artists to use Apple Music as an exclusive streaming service for new albums. Sure, this isn't super-notable because Dr. Dre is an employee at Apple, but he is a noted artist/producer/etc.

the more artists that decide to use AppleMusic as an exclusive area, the more enticing it becomes to pay for it. I, however, am not too enticed about Apple Music and not even trying the 1/4 year trial

The problem is that Dr. Dre isn't relevant anymore. The people who would pay for his music don't buy anymore.

Apple Music is becoming a magnet for trash.

Good to know.

I don't see this trend of exclusives ending well. Now Apple are doing it, Spotify and others will feel obliged to, which means that you will need to pay $600 per year for your music instead of $120. Or $3 per year if you buy the three good songs a year on iTunes.

Wow. Three good songs a year? That'a amazing that you have appointed yourself the arbiter of what is good music for the rest of us. Since I have been on Apple music I have added 47 albums to my music collection.

Besides, music didn't start today. There are some songs and music worth listening to that existed prior. Just because you might not have enough imagination to look at the body of work that's out there prior to now for great music doesn't mean the rest of us don't appreciate it.

I see your posts and it seems like Apple can do no right in your book. Wonder why you even own any Apple products...?

I don't listen to Dr. Dre. I don't care for the style of music he made or produces (in general).
but that is besides the point. He is still a figure in some people's eyes. and those people are likely to stream, so, that fits Apple's new Music business model.

and someone above my previous post summed up a 5 point breakdown of why this is "important"

again, I don't care for Dr. Dre or the like (musically) but I have to step back and see we aren't all alike.
and Dr. Dre as a music maker hasn't been to relevant on his own but to help produce others and as such his latest is filled with "featured artists"

**Not trying to start and argument or point fingers. I'm just stating sometimes the big picture isn't the first thing you see...and maybe you (and I) aren't going to be excited about everything.
