People are making way to big of an issue over this. He is releasing an album, not running for political office. If you don't like it, don't listen. It is as easy as that. It would be nice if people would stop looking for superfluous reasons to be offended and focus on issues that that actually matter. If you didn't know about this, would it effect your life in any meaningful way? If the answer is no, then you are wasting your time.

Wrong.

Dre is a high-profile Apple employee, so everything he does now reflects on Apple. You can blame Tim Cook for the politicisation of Apple. If Dre was simply releasing an album on iTunes, no-one would care or comment; it would simply join the acres of trash already there.

But he now becomes the voice of Apple; and what a repellent voice that is.

My bet: Very few people know and or care about this.

Sure. That must be why a search for Dr. Dre yields About 56,700,000 results. And most of the first page results are articles about the new album from CNN, TIME, Newsweek etc. Might want to get your head out of your hole if you don't think this is a Big Deal.

Maybe I should have been more clear and stated that the album itself is a big deal (which I believe it is) but it's effect on the apple brand is is completely blown out of proportion here. Just one guys opinion. I am sure there is someone if not multiple people here that will tell me how I am wrong.

You are spot on with your assumption. Even if they do think of him as an Apple employee I would imagine only a fraction of those folks care or think his album will have an effect on the Apple brand at all.

I like Dre past albums. I hope he can make a great one this time but I have the feeling it will be a sleeper.
Just too much expectation and Dre while being a prolific producer, it's been around 15 years he hasn't put any album of his own out there. We'll see, I really hope I am wrong.

Streaming Services has been really good in the fight against piracy, but there should not be many exclusive agreements before people start to download their music illegally again.

I'm pretty sure the album is basically the best of his tracks/beats over the last 15 years. He'll never reach the stellar production levels of The Chronic/Doggystyle, but I'm hoping it's a great record. I personally can't wait to hear it.

Two listens through and this is one big mic drop from Dr. Dre.

My phone is all

Straight out of Compton to Cupertino. How sad is that?
Sell out?

I mean NWA was THE anti Machine band in their day. Now they are part of the Machine.

Funny how money changes people.

Actually, it's the complete opposite of sad. Epitome of the American Dream.

I mean, what should he have done? Stayed in the hood and gotten himself killed? Not sure I get it.

I've got news for you: all rap is trash. Complete and utter trash, save for the odd track in the 80s.

The best thing that could happen to all rappers is for them to retire from inflicting their violence on the rest of the world. Perhaps we should send them all to that new planet discovered recently, where they can shout at each other to their hearts' content.

Otherwise, there's always Australia, Great Britain's former penal colony. Plenty of empty space for them there (even though it's a bit hot).

I've got news for you. Screaming that an entire genre is "complete and utter trash" and saying it like it's an indisputable fact doesn't make it so. Do you realize, for example, that there have been entire rap albums in recent memory that have been released without profanity? Also, to those that actually believe like Frost and some others here that this exclusive release doesn't move the needle for Apple music... lol. Unless I'm badly forgetting something, this is the biggest streaming music exclusive ever released. Whether you personally like the music or not, THAT's an actual indisputable fact. There are literally millions of people who have been waiting years for this album, and it's going to cause a legitimate surge in Apple Music subs. Any attempt to downplay its import, regardless of your personal musical taste, is frankly completely ignorant and moronic. It doesn't make the person saying it a moron, but it's a moronic view to hold because it isn't a matter of opinion. It's an industry-shaking release. Living in a bubble with your fingers in your ears and shouting insults at Dre doesn't change that fact.

Also, while you can criticize Dre for speaking artistically on some of his personal -- and admittedly questionable, at times -- experiences all you want, you can't deny that it's extremely legit that he is donating ALL of his artist royalties to an educational center for the youth in Compton, and working with their mayor to make it happen. I've seen people on this thread talking about how dropping this album makes Dre a greedy sellout, but their ignorance strikes again. So true. Include Ice-T to that list with his constant attack on LL Cool J for "Selling out". I remember when they used the word "Sell-Out" and slammed any who did.

IMO Rap after NWA, Ice-T, BDP, EPMD etc. Blows.

All Rap is good for is to promote violence &
racism.

Recent shootings & murders in Toronto at a Drake afterparty at Muzik nightclub prove this point. The last time a shooting at the same place happened, was at the previous Drake after party. Punks with guns. WTH needs to carry a gun in Toronto?

I thought this was strange too, why would Apple associate itself with Dre and Beats?

...MONEY!

"Some experts have estimated that it costs at little as $14 to make a pair of Beats by Dre headphones"
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3001842/Dre-Beats-headphones-cost-14-make.html#ixzz3jbwE1oEl

"Urban" marketing, Beats / Dre. Think about it? This is merely marketing and buying a brand with huge markup, they want to make more money for the shareholders, giving Apple more "urban" appeal / cred and by using the Beats brand so sell overpriced headphones.

If they can use the beats name to pump out headphones at a 80% markup all over the world for a minimum of $199 a set list price it's a great deal. Use your existing Apple contracts with your Chinese factories to lower the $14 manufacturing cost even more.

I might not buy Beats personally but many people do. If I was Apple I would also buy beats or any brand with that kind of perceived value and sell it to all the stupid trendy people what are dumb enough to buy it. Good for Apple.
