Most of us will know the term "Griffin iMate" - but have you heard of or even better, used a "Drakware ASDB2USB"? It's sold for 20 bucks, thats a quarter of the minimum price I have seen on (german) eBay for an iMate - usually they tend to be around $120 plus shipping from the US...
Does anybody know if these cheap little boxes work? Or are they just useless plastic with 2 connectors on it?

I *think* it works. It is probably one of the siblings of those DIY ADB to USB projects out there. It's not very hard to do now given the tech today. The size gets quite smaller as well compared to the iMate manufactured 20 years ago.

The developer/manufacturer appears to know their stuff. The website also sells products for connecting the classic Macintosh keyboards (RJ-11 looking plug w/ clip), NeXT and SGI keyboards to USB, as well as USB keyboard support for NeXT and SGI systems. They have also provided an online keymapper for custom mappings.

I'd say yes to supporting their efforts.

Not keen on the micro USB connector as that is the most fragile port going. I would sooner put up with more bulk but I understand the purpose of going as small as feasibly possible.

Drakware is superior. The firmware is also upgradable so many issues have been fixed since it was released.
