Since you just bought a car (within 1 year), you'll have to pay the sales tax difference when you register the car. This happened to me when I moved from IL to CA. The guy at the DMV tried to help me too. He said "are you SURE you bought it on that date?" And then he said sorry when I confirmed the date (not seeing what he was getting at). It was between $500 and $700.

This is just one of the reasons people keep previous state licenses active, since registrations themselves are cheaper. It's not technically legal, but I don't hear a lot of people getting in trouble for it either.

Yes, true I just bought a car, (which I haven't received). However, I think I'll just register it in California in the end. Hopefully, I can work that out with Metairie DMV.

I'll bite the bullet if I have to pay extra for California registration. After all, if I get a ticket (hopefully I won't), I won't have to chase it down. Also, don't want the trouble at this time since in the end, on a work visa, the last thing you want is trouble.

what is a light rail? are those the small cabin trains that have cables on top that one takes at 7th street?

TS: I went for a couple of days to LA last month and used the public system and I though I would not want to drive there w/out reading the basics.

We have a small train system that rides largely on the surface streets with car traffic. Most of them look like the picture below, although there are a few old cars in service plus the cable cars too.

MAKE SURE TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT i was there for 3 hours yesterday!!!

in recent years the DMV has moved away from the old take a number and wait line-up to giving priority to appointments.....if you DON'T make an appointment, you're asking for a wait
