Ah, so plastic is bad? I mean, because having a phone made out of glass is probably more sturdy than one made of plas--OH WAIT.

But go ahead and blindly throw around the opinion that plastic is bad for phones.

It is. My old Samsung Focus would bend and flex. Not sure that's the sign of a quality handset. Kinda like a Dell Inspiron laptop. Shouldn't do that.

Yes, you're right - a solid stainless steel and glass phone is more sturdy than a plastic one..

I don't know why ANYBODY would think that a phone that creaks and moans (see- just about every plastic phone I've ever held) just from general handling is in ANY way more study than the rock-solid iPhone.

If an Android phone was made out of the exact same materials, it'd be the bestest mostest awesomester phone evar!

The Droid Prime is actually the Nexus Prime. The OP apparently just doesnt know that....LOL
I actually do know that, but thanks for your concern.
I did not say it was bad. They just don't feel right. Go to best buy or att or where ever hold every droid phone against the iPhone. They feel like a toy in all honesty. Just my opinion.

I agree, the build quality sucks, but I just need something new. Not the 4S.

And I dont know why everyone is bashing me here? If anyone is even remotely active at these boards, they would know how loyal I am towards apple normally, AND I stated I'm keeping iPhone as well.

I guess I should have said that I'm getting the android for developing reasons as well. If the redesigned ip5 would have been announced, this would have been no contest. I never said I was really happy about this move, but I think it's a decent fit and I was just wondering if any other ip4 users who feel the need to get a phone upgrade every year were thinking about the prime over the 4s.

First off, know I have two lines. A Verizon and an ATT line. Currently I have my iPhone 4 on AT&T and a suspended dumb phone on VZW. I have an upgrade eligible on VZW, and there is no way I am buying a spec bump phone when I already have the ip4, so I think I am going to go with the Prime.

Anyone else debating the prime against the 4s? I never thought I would be saying this....

I will still have an iPhone so maybe I won't feel so bad....

Anyone?

1. Why do you feel the need to tell everyone on these boards about your personal choice to buy another phone? You're not that special. This is an iPhone board, no one cares if you want another phone. Also, you don't want the Prime because it's a better phone. You want the Prime because you just want a new phone, it has nothing to do with the quality of the phone. Just wait, you'll have fun with your shiny new Prime for a month or so...then want to buy the 4S. Happens all the time, people just want new stuff.

2. Crosby's got great talent, but he's a cry baby. He'd be a better player and would get more respect if he played with toughness instead of teary eyes. LETS GO CAPS!

yes, but the old phones were narrow and thick, did not feel like these big wide thin flimsy droids.

Narrow and thick? Is that possible? ;)

Im not bashing you, just correcting for those who dont know. Im going to be getting the Nexus Prime as well :)

Mike you don't have to explain yourself. People are just mistaking you for a potential Troll. If smartphones didn't require expensive data plans I too wouldn't mind checking out an Android phone. The only way for you to know what features you like and do not like are to try out the options.

Looking forward to your opinion when you get settled in.

Why does it matter what anyone else is doing? Do what you want. You already decided that you will not upgrade to 4S, so your other options are to not upgrade at all, or to upgrade to something else.

You don't need us for this. You can decide. Go forth and prosper.

Enjoy your phone, man.

Don't let the bashing get to you. Whatever makes you happy. I know some simply need Apple products all the time and there are some like me who would get BORED having ONLY Apple products all the time.

I am enjoying Android right now. I think of it like driving the FASTEST cars. I know most Apple don't care about specs, but people in Android or the racing industry do. You can have the BMW experience, but some also don't want a Toyota Prius engine inside of it. We need that horsepower too and not just the "experience." To Android users, it is about numbers. Neither UI are my favs. My fav is still webOS. If only webOS had the hardware specs of Android and the ecosystem like iOS. What could have been?

So whatever floats your boat. Different strokes for different folks. Nobody needs to take sides in anything.

lol guys this is a forum he can post what he wants

i for one would be all over the nexus prime if there was any certainty at all about a sprint release date

Nexus-Prime is a true next gen device, the iPhone4S is so sad to see come from Apple, it is basically a re-released iPhone4, same shell, same thickness, same screen, same battery, same OS with a screen full of app icons.

I am still in shock that they even came out with this 4S after 16 months, I would've bet big time there would be a fully new iPhone5 with 4" screen, etc...or worst case if a revised iPhoen4.5 I still expected Apple to update it a bit more, like thinner, or touting a brand new battery tech, or slightly updated screen tech. But to release pretty much the exact same iPhone4 again, is unbelievable. And just proves that Apple is obviously all about making money #1.

I bet you are. After all, you have posted this about 150 times now. We get it, you like Android.

I was really looking forward to coming back to Apple again, but #1 they need a bigger screen, and other features.

I didn't care for the iPhone4, so why would I ever want the iPhone4S, which is pretty much the same phone re-released.

It looks like the OP is really just looking for something to show off. Let me remind you then, that Siri will be a really cool feature with which you can impress people. Also, the iPhone 4S will have the best camera hardware/software combo in a phone by far. These features are both flashy and have practical value.

The Prime seems to have a big screen going for it--but you already have an iPad, so that would be my preferred choice for travel, video, reading, gaming, etc. At least wait and check one out in the store to see the impact of the size of the phone and wait for some battery life tests. Too bad the upgrade wasn't due for the ATT line to take advantage of the "4G" speed.

Don't even worry about em mike. Your a longtime vet here you've got nothing to defend. They are just scared of losing you to the dark side of the force ;)

I've thought about the Prime, Note, or even the Galaxy S II for Att. Android has some good benefits to it that I can appreciate:
- Different hardware options
- All 4 carriers
- Free navigation w/ GMaps Navigation
- Free texting & instant notifications w/ Google Voice
- AmazonWireless gives insane discounts (Bionic is already $129 tax free!) vs Apple never discounting prices :(

Also a lot of the advantages the iPhone used to have are now gone once the Prime/Note comes out:
- Retina display is cancelled out by the SuperAmoledHD coming
- iOS smoothness is cancelled out by the buttery goodness that is the dual core GSII
- App store used to be a big advantage but now both sides are equal in that regard.

The main things for me keeping me with the iPhone is the following:

- Amazing customer service at apple stores
- Much easier to sell on Craigslist for a good price
- Great battery life
- Smaller screen (personal preference but I don't like monster 4.3' screens, hard to use 1 handed)

Enjoy your phone. Unlike some of the fanboys here, you should buy the phone that best fits YOUR needs. In my case, I'm getting the 4S but that doesn't mean it's right for everyone.

I think the build quality from Samsung needs to be improved. But I don't understand how some who people who bash Android think all of them are built exactly way.

HTC and Motorola build their phones with metal too. The iPhone 3's had even cheaper build quality than current HTC Android phones with just a silver chrome around it. Most of it was plastic too and it felt light in the hand just like the Galaxy S phones. What made those iPhones great had nothing to do with its features and hardware and everything to do with iOS, the apps, and ecosystem. But no iOS, and that would be a midrange smartphone. The competition was weaker back in 2008-2009 since Android phones and the platform was not mature yet.

I think Apple has only made THREE great iPhones based on hardware while the 3G/3GS I consider to be just good or very good. It is like your favorite artist's discography. Some of them had better albums than others. iOS is what made ALL of them great though. But Apple's 60% rate based on great hardware and solid all-around features is still better than most competitor's in the top-end market.

The main difference between a plastic phone with gorilla glass versus a phone made of a stainless steel band plus not-quite--gorilla glass is that the 'cheap feeling', plastic and *lighter* phone can take a lot more punishment.

Iphone 4 is 137 grams with glass on two surfaces. Samsung Vibrant is 118 grams with glass on one surface and a plastic back + battery which can pop off (dispersing energy after a drop). Guess which phone will fare better being dropped from 3–4 ft?

In Apple's defense, I do see less iPhone4's with cracked screens than iPhone 3/3GS... but there is no question that the added weight and glass on the iphone 4 makes it more fragile than other 'cheap' feeling devices.
