Mailbox...... YOU WERE THE CHOSEN ONE!!!!

Will never forgive Dropbox for this. I understand it's all a business and not all business decisions turn out for the best, but that doesn't mean I have to like it, or continue using Dropbox.

Which is rather sad. There's nothing wrong with Dropbox itself, but I'd take a working, continuously updated Mailbox app over Dropbox any day.

Mailbox would have died just as quickly on their own as they did under Dropbox.

Nothing lasts forever.

Correction - Nothing good lasts forever.

Agree Outlook is the best alternative if you want to use the iPhone for anything approaching work email (still going to miss Mailbox though). What's missing from some of the alternatives being floated here such as Spark (can't say for Inbox) is integration with Cloud services like DB or OneDrive (Outlook offers both and more)- Spark looks cute but seems to allow you to attach photos only, I didn't see a way to attach files (or links at least) - please correct me if I'm wrong.

Re DB in general - not going away any time soon IMHO - they're prepping for an IPO with a business model based on enterprise services and I guess free consumer email and photo management didn't fit into that scenario.

You might have used an older versions of spark. I tested Outlook and Spark today. Spark offers a all those cloudservices. You can attach pictures, db, box, google drive, one drive and icloud drive files by pressing on the attachment icon. And it even got a nice attachement overview category for recieved emails. Sadly you have to use the share menu and pick e.g. the Dropbox app to reupload them to your own folder structure. I prefer the general UI of Spark and has more nifty little details for my personal mail. Outlook looks like a better business solution, because the calendar etc. seems better integrated. But in the end both feel a bit bloated compared to the simplicity of Mailbox.

I thought they spruced up *with * Carousel... Wrong direction...

Time to spruce down. and remain dull and boring.

I'm using Fantastical for calendar still as I use Apples calendar and haven't figured out how to link Outlook in to it or if it's now possible...

i only use the dropbox app, did not like the others anyway.

Dropbox app is perfect so if they improve that and keep that updated will be all good

I'm using Spark by Readdle. Seems like a better alternative than CloudMagic.

This whole company is in trouble...

I feel like Dropbox became a new standard in the internet world like Facebook, Gmail, and Twitter. I really on it heavily. I don't see how they are in trouble (unless their expense is more than their revenue). I feel the same about Box, which is just as good but no one gives them any love(not sure why).

Maybe Dropbox could sell Mailbox to bring back some of the money they have lost, or make it open source project to enhance their image with the community.

Do you mean sharing the email and use it as a description for an event in Fantastical? As far as i know there is no third party share sheet option in Outlook (although the calendar/contact integration is tighter for accounts on Outlook itself). When you open a Mail in Spark the button down right has one under sharing -> more. If you don't want use the built in calendar neither one of those apps, Spark might be the better option.

Well, I am back to the stock mail app for my Macs. Spark for iPhone, outlook for iPad.

Waiting for spark to release their iPad and Mac apps. I will pay whatever their asking price is, so bring it on!!

You should check out Airmail. The only function it lacks for me is the later feature. But I suppose it's unnecessary. It's only available on Mac OS X right now, but is due an IOS version.

Thanks! For now, I'm going with Airmail on Mac and Spark on iPhone. Then I'm waiting for either one of them to multi-platform away :)

Mass exodus to CloudMagic in 3, 2, 1...

Thanks for the tip. Will check this out. I really liked mailbox. Outlook for iOS is also pretty good. The integrated Calender and support for Dropbox and other Services is great.

When Mailbox came out, I remember you had to wait to get an invitation to download and it took forever to receive my invite. While I waited I remember seeing reviews that talked about Mailbox as if it were the second coming. Finally, I got my invite. I used Mailbox for about a week. Eh, I won't miss it. For me, I just never loved it. It's still on my phone, but I stopped using it so long ago, I forgot I had it.

Yup, I received my email notice re: Carousel being closed this morning. I have already uninstalled the app.

I was bummed about this. I had used Carousel quite a bit - it wasn't fully featured but it worked with my Dropbox account and I liked it. Kinda tired of companies shutting stuff down. Why not just leave the app with a warning saying that it isn't supported anymore so at any time it can fail to start? :/ Anyway.... I've moved on. To be honest, Google Photos got me with unlimited photo storage and conversion of all photos to unlimited space (with one button click) awhile ago.

I've used Dropbox for a long time but I really don't have a use for it going forward. It was one of those products that "just worked."

Unlimited storage is nice. Unfortunately it comes with some major caveats: 1) Your images will be re-encoded to save Google space. Google says "most stored photos will essentially look the same if you choose High quality." Note here that your images are not preserved exactly. 2) Photos larger than 16MP "will be downsized to 16MP."

The problem there is that most photos are stored in lossy formats, and every re-compression degrades the image. If you're using Google Photos for backup rather than a nice way to display your images, you should NOT be using the unlimited free High Quality tier. You need to be on the Original tier, which, unfortunately, counts against your Google Drive storage limits, but stores your images in a bit-exact manner (both copies are identical).

Last I looked at the Google Drive pricing it was more reasonable than Dropbox, so perhaps it's a non-issue. Just be careful with the Free option. It's not as good a deal as it seems.

Edit: Actually, for my usage Google Drive appears to be more expensive. Anyone using more than 100GB but less than 1TB is better off with Dropbox from a price perspective.

Brutal. Mailbox is my go-to for my gmail account. It's been nice to make sure all my emails are dealt with and has made email much more efficient.

I think this is the first time I've been directly affected by a takeover/shutdown scenario. That and Songza being discontinued in January.

I'm not sure how you are going to be affected when Inbox by Google is essentially Mailbox but better.

I personally think Dropbox is in trouble.

Good news for me since I switched to Outlook a while back. Now all my "productivity" needs are solved my Microsoft.

I've personally switched from Dropbox to Microsoft 365 as it does the same thing AND comes with the most robust productivity software for a little less when paid by the year ($92 at Costco).

Sorry Dropbox, we've had a good run.

Spark by Readdle seems like a pretty slick alternative to Mailbox, even has customisable swipes.
Definitely the way to go if you want something that does all the Mailbox things. CloudMagic is fine but not even close to the same experience. I want swiping and snoozing.

Spark is also nicer than Mailbox in a way since the swipes are customizable and it allows any IMAP account. Wish I had found it earlier.

This really blows. I really liked Mailbox and have been relying on this app. Now that it will be shut down, is there another app similar to Mailbox app? I hope another app developer builds makes an app like this. I'm not a fan of the stock mail app that comes on the iOS Device.

There are a few that have been mentioned in the thread, like Spark or CloudMagic (among some others).
