iPhones are relatively fragile. The choices are risk it being damaged or get a heavy duty case.

I don't use a screen protector or a case. Carry it in a dedicated front pocket so the screen stays perfect.

If I drop it I'll simply replace it. That's my choice.

So far I've had every model of iPhone since day one. Been lucky and haven't dropped any of them. I'm probably overdue :)

Knock. On. Wood.

A.) "BEST Buy" sucks!!!! sorry to say this to everyone who likes them but its honesty

Hey everyone, I purchased my iPhone 5s on Feb. 16th, received it on the 24th, and dropped it on yesterday on the 7th. I had on a Caudabe "The Veil" and a Spigen Ultra Oleophobic screen protector.

This is what happened to the case.

And this is what happened to my phone.

I purchased it from BestBuy. If I go to an Apple store, will they replace it or will BestBuy? Today is not a good day. Thanks.

sucks for everything just general knowledge never buy **** from them because if it brakes they more than likely not replace it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You win some you lose some. I know tons of people here would argue that the 4S was MORE fragile, glass would shatter more easily, etc. It's all a matter of opinion I suppose.

I have actually dropped my 5S more than all of my previous iPhones combined now that we have an infant and it's either him or the phone sometimes (an obvious choice lol). I have an Apple leather case which has some gnarly scuffs, but the phone looks brand new. Anecdotal, I know, but the one time I dropped the 4S it got a knick in the upper right (glass). Bummer.

It certainly is unfortunate, but you shouldn't expect the company to east the cost of your mistake (yes I know it has been said).

Nah, I totally understand. It's oh well, it happened. I posted this more as to know the warranty, and just as a general post for people to see and if they wanted to know about The Veil's protection (sorta). But yeah, that's all. People don't need to be dicks.

This is why I reluctant to give in to my urges to have my 5c naked...I suspect this may sound silly but come upgrade time I will probably just do it as would upgrade anyway!

In the first week of owning mine I picked up an iron and the plug some how swung into it whilst in my pocket. I then bashed it into a door somehow. Then dropped it. No damage luckily but it told me to buy apple care + because it just seemed to be on a suicide mission. I think some phones are like that, they just want to see how tough they are. For those you need to buy apple care + :p:D

Truer words have never been said. As of late, I feel the forums have been pretty rowdy and people are short tempered. Kind of strange.

I would just stick it in a case and not even worry about it. I dropped my (naked) Nexus 5 on a curb a few weeks ago and it scuffed 2 corners pretty bad. The phone retails for $399, I sold it for $310 on Swappa last weekend.

I don't think you'll lose THAT much on resell when it comes time to sell it. Don't sweat it.

I would still recommend using Magpull. Dump that case. You already had one bad experience from them. Next time it'll be the screen.

The reason I got The Veil was because I don't like to make my phone huge. But I understand.

I like Diztronic cases. They are made of sturdy, grippy TPU material similar to Magpul, and are a simple design that does not add much bulk.

TPU cases are the best compromise between ultra-thin cases like the Veil, and blocky Otterboxes.

Lol, I love how these discussions always turn into a discussion on cases. That honestly doesn't even look that bad. You probably shouldn't have used an ultra thin if you care about stuff like this. I have the Caudabe Veil too but I rarely drop my phone and if I do I wouldn't care about chips like this.

Besides, you know you'll be getting the 6 when it comes out anyway!

Your spelling sucks :)

And why would they replace a phone that he broke? Lol

"Hey, I was wondering how you like The Veil? Is it worth getting? I want a really thin case so I can place my phone on the table and slide it around at school, how does the case hold up to scratches? Also, what screen protector do you use and would you recommend it? It looks really nice, can you post some pics with the phone on? Thanks!"

I doubt it accidentally fell out of an unzipped pocket lol

The problem ere is your case. You need a good case that has protection. It doesn't have to be a huge case that doubles the size of phone but I would say something like the apple ones. And anyone who says it's just a phone is completely wrong. It is just a phone but if my phone had any tiny scratch I would mad and upset because I I don't want it to mess up the way my phone looks.

Try Cape Cod polishing cloth. I buffed the whole chamfered part when I dropped it on tile. Looked nice and shiny. That was before apple replaced my 5s.

I had liquid damage after I got my Iphone 5s and use is just for 2 weeks.I was so sad,but after I google some info and went to the apple store.I find way to replace it.U can purchase Apple care + via phone, don't go to do it in store, the gonna check you're phone and u will be not able to get Apple care +as u got damage already. If u gonna do it via phone, they will run some diagnostic on you're phone and you gonna be allowed to get Apple care+.
U can get Apple care + 30 days after u purchase the phone,so looks like u have time until Sunday =) Its going to be cheaper replace with Apple care + then just with out, witch cost $250-280.Apple care + just $99 and u will get 2 chances for replacement each is gonna be $79 =) Good luck!

It did accidentally fall out of an unzipped coat pocket. I've never dropped it at school. The case has scratch marks from my desk at school though. But I put the phone in the pocket on my coat that zips up (where you can put your hands), and I didn't zip it up like I usually do. So when I bent over, it fell out.

They actually don't go for $750, prices are down around $400 - $600

People just like to be arrogant, I had someone tell me to get off Macrumors before, someone had asked for suggestions on what was wrong with their Mac, someone else didn't like my response so they basically told me I don't belong on here :)

Ok!

What was the purpose of this thread again? Thought apple and best buy offered free accidental damage? Lol

Not arrogant, just a lot of newbies lie and create threads for attention nowadays. Funny how he wanted a slick case so he can slide it on his desk at school. Now he has damage...hmmm

You do realize Magpull cases don't make your phone huge. Magpull is known for their low profile and high quality cases. Don't trust me? Look it up everywhere else.

Look at pictures with Magpull cases. They are very slim and add no bulk.

If they are the ones advertised from Magpul Industries Corp. those are some ugly cases. I think I'll stick with my Spigen Tough Armor. :D

This. Spigen knocked it out of the park with their Thin Armor / Tough Armor series of cases.

It won't? Why not? I'd assume it would a lot.

Everyone assumes this.

I own a 5S and with the exception of the 5 have sold very single version on eBay with varying amounts of cosmetic damage. The most damaged one I sold was my 4S last year (had a scuff similar to yours and scratches here and there). It still sold for about what every other 4S sold for at the time.

People buying 2 yo phones expect some wear and tear. Selling a mint condition 2yo phone doesn't give you much more in resale.

So just relax and enjoy the phone!

Options: (for next time)
1) Don't drop it
2) Buy a protective case
3) Buy Insurance

Side note:
1) Don't scam
2) Warranty covers manufacturer defects

I think it adds character. Keep it just as is. The only suggestion would be to take a nail file and gently buff down the rough edges around the nick so it doesn't catch on fabric.
