I didn't expect it to be in the warranty an I don't expect apple to fix it. I am just wondering what I can do about it. Please don't criticize me. I was just asking a question.

Sorry your original post sounded like you thought that warranty would cover the drop. Not to worry as there are plenty of people, here, that would lie cheat and steal so ignore the self righteous and move on.

Put on your sad humble hat and go to the Apple store. Be honest and tell them it was near new and you dropped it. There is a good chance they will replace it. If not wait another week and try it again.

A friend of mine dropped he and shattered the screen. He took it in and started "crying" about how much he loved his device and what could they do to fix it and the GEEK returned with a perfect unit for him to take home!

Geeks are not all the same. They and the manager of the store have choices and things are not etched in stone. Be nice, tell the truth and you may be surprised.

Not sure where you are from, but here in the UK many credit card companies offer 90 days insurance for items over £100 purchased on the card.

Nerd rage.

it's a dent.

I don't make a thread on the hummer H3 forums asking random internet strangers who have zero affiliation with GM what they think I should do about the stain I made from spilled coffee on my carpets.

it's a cosmetic issue that is entirely your fault. live with it.

If you jammed a hammer in your Tv's screen do you think they would repair it under warranty? I don't get people like you, do you think that warranty covers clumsiness? Do you know what mechanical damage is? You've got a dent on your iPad? Be happy that it's only a dent, it could have been a broken display...

You dented it and now you're hoping someone's going to say "take it to the genius bar. They might fix it for free since you've had it for such a short period time." The you take that as your cue to prance into the apple store to hold them responsible for your butterfingers and expect a free replacement.

If you run your new car into a tree do you expect Ford to replace or repair it under warranty?

If you jammed your jammy dodger in a ice-cream, would you expect the queen to dance? I hope this helpful posts serves as an extremely valuable life lesson. Never let your horses feed the paper.

If you have enough money to put petrol in that massive hunk of crap then you have enough money to buy ten new ones every week anyway

Bondo. Seriously, it's just a dent, it adds character, kind of like a scar.

Many people have posted here that if you make an appointment with a genius in the Apple store, they might help you. Tell them what happened, ask if it can be repaired, they sometimes surprise you and replace it at no charge.

I have a friend that got her iPad replaced at no charge. The screen was shattered, she told them she dropped it and would like to know if it could be repaired. They told her it was her lucky day and gave her a new one.

Just be polite, friendly and honest.

Key word there is her. Find a lady friend to take it in for you. At least that works at the Baton Rouge Apple store. Bigger is better. ;)

well, if you are like me, who has OCD about having perfect Apple products, then I would simply buy a case that covers both the back and the front. Perhaps a smart cover and a complementory back case for it? It a nice option.

Hi,

If you have any of the issues with the iPad app or device and it is in warrenty period then you can replace it.

if it is a manudefect when it comes to applecare

OP: If you bought with CC, see if you have any benefits. I know mine and many others have benefits of replacing broken/stolen goods within a certain time period

A number of credit cards will cover accidental damage or theft within the first 90 days or so. I know AMEX and Citi Thank You Premier cards do. I believe Visa Signature and whatever the equivalent MasterCard do as well. If you used a credit card you should definitely look into whether it covers this type of thing.

Just go to Apple, they will be honest with you. Make an appointment first and be on time, check in with the person at the front door and you will be directed to a person with an iPad further back in the store.

The dude was just asking a question...but as others stated, best bet is to find a cover for it...I must say though, to have your iPad unprotected for this long, you sir, are bold :D
My iPad does not have a cover of any kind for almost 1,5 years now. Zero damage.

I dropped mine as well - from under my arm - unfortunately im tall.

The on/off button got jammed, thankfully a friend took it apart and repaired it. Now I dont worry about denting/scratching it.

This is probably one of the threads with the meanest replies against the original poster i have seen so far on this forum...

Mmm, except the threads where the OP is a troll (but then the replies are deserved). But this guy was asked a legitimate question :(

exactly kinda sad that people whom ask normal questions get such (insert insulting adjective here) replies. :(

There's insurance you can buy to protect your iPad against Accidental Damage, Theft, Fire, Water, etc.

Google: "iPad Insurance" for a wide range of choices.

The one I have used for both my iPad and MacBook Pro is Safeware, but in the end it's your decision which company you choose.

Also, sometimes if you take it to the Apple Store, and use the right words, then may exchange it for you. It's a 50-50 chance, but there's nothing to loose by trying.

A couple of weeks ago, I dropped my iPad 2 that I bought in March, 2011 on my granite kitchen counter. It fell on it's side against the edge of the granite, which dented the side of the iPad right at the volume up button. The button got jammed and no longer operated. I brought it into the Apple store to see if it could be fixed. Here's how the conversation went:

Genius: "Ouch. This isn't covered under warranty, it's physical damage."

Me: "Oh I know that, I wasn't expecting warranty coverage, I just want to know if it can be repaired."

Genius: "That's ok, we'll swap it out for a new one anyway."

And out I walked with a brand new one. Now this wasn't just a dent, this was a dent that was preventing normal operation. I kinda doubt they'd swap out for new just for a dent that's not causing any operating difficulty, but who knows? Give it a try.

I guess it depends if you get a nice employee who's in a good mood... Because its not like they're giving you a new iPad out of their pocket. They just work there and get paid for their hours. You may as well try OP, ya might get lucky ;)
