Thank GOD my ARS is big enough to fill the hole:eek::D:eek:!!!

Second...I would NEVER, EVER, set my phone somewhere with something attached so that if I moved it moved. I keep in my FRONT pocket with headphones, cant go anywhere.

BACK POCKET:confused::confused: Not only would I be worried about the toilet but sitting on the dang thing can't be to easy on the phone either...Don't get it???

Ok good news is you may have some hope! I did this exact thing a few months ago with my 3GS and it ended up ok. I even had a similar issue after it got wet as it would not turn off even if it was turned off home+top button. Basically would you need to do is make SURE it stays off. First thing is heat your oven up to about 150. Stick the phone in and leave it for a few hours but make sure it doesn't get too hot. This should evaporate most of the water. Then for the next 24-48 hours put it in a big bag of white rice and leave it. It will kill you but just do it. After that say a prayer and boot it up. Good luck!

TMI but I've had my phone slide out of my back pocket when bending to sit. Caught it before it fell in. Now I keep my phone on top of the toilet paper holder but once it slipped and almost went into the toilet. IMO if you've got your phone in the bathroom, there is a chance it will end up in the toilet.

And keeping your phone in your back pocket is not a problem??

you really put it in the oven?

I put my daughter's LG VU in a bag with numerous dessicant packs for several days after she dropped it into a puddle of water and it was as good as new. With that phone - you can remove the battery so that the contacts dry off and don't start to corrode. Since you can't remove the battery in the iphone easily - drying time might be have to be extended.

Let it sit in baggy of rice for 1-2days. Then try and turn it on.

Oh and you may want to unscrew that back and take out the battery and let the phone sit in rice with the back open but no rice physically touching the back if you get what I mean. Should dry it really well.

The rice in a bag is a good absorbent. Leaving it off as long as you can allow is the best idea IMO.

I had a friend bring his iPhone in for getting it wet and they did replace it for a fee.

Wow, thats awesome. I love Apple for their random acts of going beyond the expected/written agreement. Some have griped here for lack of consistency, however consistency infrequencies are only valid to me when the scenario at hand is within the rules and regulations. If it's a freebie, its just that.

Yeah, as someone above stated, put your 4 in a zip-lock bag full of uncoiled rice. Rice obsorbs water sucking it out of your phone. Do this as a first resort. Oh, and don't use a blow dryer... ever. It's a phone, not hair.

After I left my laptop in the bathroom and neighbors from above me flooded me, with water dripping from the air duct in the ceiling and straight onto my laptop, I stopped taking any devices to the bathroom with me. Better safe than sorry.
Every time I feel like rethinking my position, a muddy gray spot on my laptop's screen tells me to think again. ;)
Though it was sooo nice to watch something while taking a bath! :D

To the OP, I hope your iPhone survives!

If you're referring to replacing a water-damaged iPhone for $199, they will do that for any water-damaged iPhone. Nothing special from Apple.

+1 on the rice in the bag thing. 40 minutes is not gonna help at all.

Back when I first got a 3G, I fell into a lake with the phone in my pocket. It would not turn off, was calling all kinds of random people.... I thought it was toast. A friend suggested the rice method, so I gave it a shot. I left it in there for 5 or 6 days.

It worked perfectly for over a year afterward. It was as if it never even happened.

You can sometimes find desicant at hardware stores. It's the little bags that come with your electronic parts to absorb water and such. But rice makes a cheapie version of that.

put in ziplock, do the $200 trade-in and get rid of it.

Do you really want to be using a doo-doo phone?

UPDATE: i was in panic mode last night and tried to turn it on like 10 times with no success, finally gave up and left it in the rice bag till this morning, phone now charges normally, i turned it on, everything seems to working normal, no weird messages, no hiccups or spazzes, i did call someone though and i can barely hear them so i turned it off again and left it in the rice bag. how long should i leave it for?

You might try and drop it and crack the glass.

Maybe apple will replace it for $199.

Or you could be rational and honest and tell them it fell in water. They will either replace it or offer you a $199 replacement.

Leave it in the rice for at least two days. Don't try to turn it on again.

My wife's 3GS has taken two dunks and is still working.

The first time she dropped it in the tub they put your feet in when getting a pedicure. She turned it off and called me from her sister's phone. Told her to put it in rice and leave it like that for two days. Worked perfectly after that.

The second time she somehow managed to drop it in a glass of milk. We did the same thing with the rice. This time, however, the speaker is is messed up, the home button wasn't responding very well for a few weeks (it's fine now) and once in a while it'll pop up with the "This accessory is not compatible with iPhone" or whatever. I imagine the fat from the milk is still gunked up in there somewhere.

If you still can't get it to work after the rice method, you can take it to apple and they will replace it for $199. It's not a bad deal if you ask me, since they wont extend the contract and just give you a new/refurbished phone. My dad did this twice with his 2g(he got it free for once by complaining about other issues, you can give that a try).

just checking, if i do get a 200$ replacement phone its refurbished right? not new?

I thought the replacement for water damaged iPhone's was for out of warranty only?
