Yet another Apple retail store with 'em in house!

dual 2.5 on hold for me at the apple store, they have them in stock

what to do, what to do

I think I am going to buy it, and just upgrade the vid card later, I am tired of waiting

btw, this is the Tysons corner store, so get them while you can!

Went in to speak with my reseller today. They called Apple and my machine's not even set to be manufactured until August 25th, and then there's a week's wait while it ships from the factory. :(

I'm not going to have it by the time Phil "The Mac" Schiller takes the stage in Paris. Bummer...

Note also that an office got 22 dual 2.5 G5s.

I'm beginning to think that Apple is discriminating against all of us here at macrumors. I can see Steve Jobs ordering his serfs at Cupertino: "Anyone who whines on macrumors, delay their G5s by 2 weeks!!" Sigh.

A report on MacInTouch is suggesting that when you get your new G5 you run Apple Hardware Test right away:

http://www.macintouch.com/#notesandtips for August 17th.

Whether or not the report is correct, seems like a good idea in any case.

I just read that as well. I didn't run the AHT, but my Dual 2.5 GHz G5 is fine, even under heavy sustained load (creating a 4GB StuffIt file, gaming, etc.). I assume that I shouldn't need to run the AHT since everything is working...

What do you all think? Does this test take long to run?

If anyone is interested, I just found out that the Costa Mesa store has two left. I called an put a hold on one.. but decided to get one from my school. So... happy shopping.

I'd run it, regardless of the time it takes. Just for peace of mind. Given all the pressure on IBM to get product out, its not too much of an imagination stretch to expect quality control issues. Some of these issues may not surface under the conditions, albeit a heavy sustained load, you are running. Someday you may try a new application, that shouldn't be a problem and have a train wreck.

Yeah, you're right. I'll run it now while I get some lunch.

I'll report back later with the results.

After reading that story at MacInTouch today (8/17) where they mention being wary of machines built in late July: http://www.macintouch.com/#notesandtips has anyone tried to determine what week their 2.5 machine has been built with this serial number decoder?

According to that article, that guy received a bunch of dual 2.5 right after they were released. Boy is that fair or what? The article did make me a little nervous though.

A Whole New Level

Dougnet99 and I just set Mail.app rules to SMS our cell phones if our G5's ship.

Now i'm going to break out in a sweat whenever my phone vibrates. Wonderful.

3 more days to ship out all those G5's.

That's fantastic. I would do the same if I left my Powerbook on all day. On top of that, I still have another two weeks to wait, so it would drive me nuts.

Also worth noting, I had my first G5 arrival dream last night. A Fedex truck arrived and the driver said my computer was on the truck. I convinced myself this was true, even though I knew that I had ordered from CDW and my G5 is being shipped via UPS. Even in my dreams I can't get my computer to me.

Got mine!

Just unwrapped my new G5 from the Apple Store in Atl, GA. I gave up on my BTO order. They received 5 of them this afternoon. They might still have one or two.

I just ran the Apple Hardware Test 2.2.4 "Extended" test on my Dual 2.5 GHz G5, and it received a clean bill of health! Whew!

Lucky you! Looks like Apple really screwed up this time. Building Power Macs with faulty processors? Youch!

Not a good time to be an Apple customer, or shareholder when the next quarterly results come out...

Nice! Just called the Houston store to see if they had any Dual 2.5Ghz in stock. The person I spoke to said "No, maybe in three weeks. Or a month."

Mine is still scheduled to ship 8/20.

BTW: How is everyone seeing if their credit card is getting "approved"? Mine's charged to my American Express Card. I've never seen that kind of information online at their website.

Retail Stock

It is curious that some Apple stores have D2.5 stock while others don't. The local stores here in Boston don't have any as yet. I would think that all stores would get stock pretty much simultaneously.....

2.5 ships Thursday!?

Apple promised me today that my box (ordered 6/9/04) would ship on Thursday, though I'm not holding my breath.

Can I swap the 160GB drive from my current 1.8DP (all current software) into the dual 2.5? Its a pretty fresh install and I'd rather not reconfigure unless the new FW migration tool is fairly comprehensive.

The one in White Plains, NY doesn't have any either.

Retail Stock part II

OK, the Apple Store in Cambridge, MA got 3 in and sold 2. So it seems like the Apple Stores are seeing them trickle in. I guess I can live without Bluetooth (or I'll add it externally) so I'll probably cancel my BTO which isn't slated to ship until 9/20. I'm surprised that there would be stock "sitting on the shelves" at stores while there are so many of us with orders from weeks or months ago that are unfulfilled.
