I just got mine at the retail store!!!

I have been reading this fourm since the beginning and when I heard that Costa Mesa had the 2.5. I stopped by the store today. I bought mine at noon. Mine was box 6 of 8. All of you that are waiting please call your nearby apple retail store!!! Good Luck!

Ryan

STATS REPORT: 8-16 afternoon edition

Stats........what stats report....there are ZERO ship announcements again so far today.

All I hear on crickets on the net.....a few chirps, but otherwise silence.

Costa Mesa and Cambridge, Ma stores had some trickle in but were bought up. Why is Apple delivering to retail outlets BEFORE pre-orders???

The two stores in Denver have never received, nor are aware of when they will receive.

See you tonight --E

This is getting ridiculous. What's the advantage of ordering two months ago and waiting in agony, when people are walking into Apple Stores and buying stock 2.5s?? I understand the problem with CTOs, but is this how Apple rewards people who pre-ordered computers?! :(

If I ordered a stock 2.5 and some Joe Schmo walks off the street into an Apple store to get MY COMPUTER, there would be violence. Possibly bloodshed. I am losing faith in Apple here- I'd like to see some heads roll. (And no this is not meant to be mean or anti-Apple)

I'm probably being too optimistic, but I'm hoping it's because Apple really does plan to meet all our promised 8/20 shipping dates. If my CTO machine ships by the end of the week, it won't bother me that some Apple stores received stock models a few days earlier. As I write this it's only 2:35 in Cupertino, still time for some machines to ship today.

After an hour of trying to get through (What's the deal with that?), I found out the Apple Store in Soho (NYC) hasn't received any yet. I guess their shipments, even to Apple Stores, truly have no rhyme or reason.

Well I checked the local store to me (Southpoint in Durham, NC) and they don't have any and the guy said "oh those aren't even shipping yet". I didn't bother to get into the fact that some stores already had them. :)

well, rocketfella, i'm off for bed, it's your time to stand guard at the thread-gate!

cu tomorrow guys & gals

Can someone help me?

I read that article about running the Apple Hardware Test and I was wondering, is that test what that "TechTool Deluxe" CD all about? Regardless, I held down the "C" key like the CD told me to and the machine just wouldn't run it. Basically it froze at the Apple logo with a small screen artifact and suddenly I could hear the system fans winding up. But the tools never booted. I had to hold the power button down so I could shut down the machine, wasn't sure what was going on but it was making me nervous.

Anyone have this problem? Or am I just doing something wrong?

Thanks.

I don't have a G5 yet, but assuming it's like other recent Macs, Apple Hardware Test comes on the DVDs provided by Apple with the machine. TechTool Deluxe is something else. I think that comes with the AppleCare package.

Santa Monica, CA got 20 in this morning

I was tempted to buy one on the spot, but didn't. Might regret it...

Because Apple is shipping out in the order that Apple got the orders and the retail outlets before you did. They are treating their own retail stores as a normal reseller. I think that makes sense from a business and logistics perspective.

It does suck though to see someone walk in off the street and get a Mac before me.. but since I got mine at discount, I'm not going to bitch too much.

You're not doing anything wrong, but perhaps are not waiting long enough. It takes a few minutes to boot from CD. Try giving it 5-10 minutes, just to be certain.

Its just a cruel joke...

So I get home and there is a package for me. Now I know it is not my G5 as that is sitting in reseller hell .. but hello what do we have here .. why it's my good software friend Motion .. Sweet something to tie me over until the G5 shows ... so i read the box look at the specs .... Dual 2GHZ G5 recommended ... Oh good lord everything I touch now needs a Dual G5 to work .. So I have additional ram, Motion and a bunch of other software waiting for Mr G5 to show up .. I'm placing my Dual 3GHZ order now .... and telling them I will pay on or before 8/20/2006

Glendale Galleria Apple Store in California has several in stock.

When I found out about the Costa Mesa store I called up a Store closer to me - in Glendale - and they said they had many in stock - just waiting to be bought.

I immediately went down to the store to buy one - I've had one on order from a reseller since June 9th, but was told as recently as this morning that they still expected them in a couple of weeks.

I went down there and bought it with an extra 1 GB of RAM. I was surprised to find out that even though they had gotten their shipment in yesterday afternoon, I was the first person at that Store buying a Dual 2.5... I was being sold the first one, and they have been sitting there for over a day!

While I hated cancelling my order with the reseller - I have some freelance jobs that needed hard drive space that I really didn't have, so the timing could not have been better.

Anyway - I am currently in the process of transferring 56 GB of my files using the System Migration feature - I started it about 45 minutes ago, and it's about a third of the way there...

Right after purchasing my computer, I got a phone call from a local reseller telling me that they had a pretty good shipment ofr 2.5s in - Melrose Mac (whom I wouldv'e bought from had I not just made my purchase). If you prefer to go through someone other than the Apple Store (or they're out of stock) - I highly recommend them - they can get you deals you probably won't be offered through the Apple Store...

Anyway - thought I'd let everyone know.

More fuel for the fire. This from Apple's own forums. Read it and weep!

I have been following this thread for a few weeks now. All of the order dates, and configurations don't seem to make much difference it seems.

So here is one more bit of this puzzle for all to analyze.

I ordered my Dual 2.5 with the stock 9600 video card, an extra gig of RAM, and an extra internal hard drive. Placed my order on JULY 15th, the day of the DV Expo in NYC, from Tekserve.(an Apple Specialist) I just received my order today! After reading about people who ordered in early June, and have not yet taken delivery, I was not expecting to see my system for quite some time.

Hang in there!

But I'm sure TekServe placed an order for them the minute before they came out on the 9th. I've brought my Pismo there for service, those guys have it goin' on.

Tekserve!!??

This is my first post, and the only reason I have lurked for the entire thread w/o contributing, is that I had nothing to contribute. However, having just come from Tekserve this afternoon and been told that my 2.5 hasn't gotten there yet, and then reading the post about the three week turnaround got my attention. I ordered mine from Tekserve on 6/28, and it's been charged to me since that date. Where and in what forum did that info appear? I would be most greatful for a referral ( and a large Scotch)

I will spill some 'possible' info.... within the next week or two (I forget exactly when, sorry), there will be a container ship pulling into a undisclosed port in Delaware chock 'o block full of Dual 2.5's. I got this info from a MacConnedtion Rep so I don't know how accurate it is. This means orders should take off soon after. I was also told that if there are more in the shipment than expected, people who are backordered second in line (like me) will recieve them earlier than their prospected Sept. 9 date.

Now if I could only know where that damn ship is now...

And to those who have the G5 Fever, just have drink and chill :)

I am in the process of cancelling my order with apple from 7/30

The reseller I had my name on the list with just got them in today and I am now typing this on my new G5

specs:
DP 2.5 stock + 1 1/2 gig RAM and a 200Gig Lacie 400/800 firewire drive

If anyone is in So Cal and wants to do the same the store is Melrose Mac on Melrose in Hollywood, CA. They got 38 of them today and are getting another 30+ tomorrow.

This thing is dead silent compared to my old PCs I recorded with.
As a new Mac user I have to shamefully admit I was getting pissed trying to figure out how to open the CDRom drive :)

Just wanted to give an update now I am off to install ProTools

Here you go my friend. Apple Discussion forum . Go give 'em hell! ;)

Don't DESPAIR, boys. Only 2 more days... TOPS!

Besides, I was told that my order would ship BEFORE 8/20, so I'm sure that many others will have their comps ship on Wednesday or Thursday. :)

Well, I just got off the phone with MacConnection and was given a status update of my order. It has now slipped to 9/17.

That's now a month away.

I am ready to buy the first one I see whether I pay the sales tax or not. Reading all these headlines on Macsurfer.com about more shortages due to IBM's continuing problems doesn't help either.

Damn...by the time this is over, I will be an alcoholic!

In case anyone is following my continuing saga. I finally found two great people to help me out with their order numbers. I contacted Apple with them and they said "Oops, guess we made a mistake, sorry about that" but your machine should ship out very soon.

Boy am I PISSED!!!!! To top it off stores have my machine!!!!!!

Only 299 more posts to 3,000!
