Thx, gtmphoto! I must say this thread is full of people who understand each either, and post and reply to give each other info, or just a simple heads up!

great to be here with you guys!

And to be honest, the more fellow maccers receive their machine, the mor the wait becomes bearable!

OT: Power consumption

I was just looking in the tech specs on the Apple site, and I can't find what the power consumption is on a new dual 2.5 - anybody know? - particularly with a 9800XT card, as I need to buy a UPS, and need to get the specs right!

Cheers

Ok how about this. What about if you email a screen grab of your shipping notice and blur/block out any order number, email address, or contact details. I really need to send some concrete proof to my Reseller as I get the impression he thinks I'm lying.

Would this be possible?

Don;t forget to add the power consumption of your monitor plus any other additional peripherals you may have. I just got a APC 1500w, unboxed waiting for the MAC, got it from staples at $200, not sure what they go for in the UK though.

From my Reseller

"Notice to customers waiting for G5 2.5 machines:

Notice will officially be given tomorrow by Apple that custom G5 2.5 models,
or "CTO" builds in jargonese, are starting to ship. Apple will ship these
customised versions first, and they will "jump the queue" on the standard
M9457BA configs. Typically the delivery takes 4-7 days to arrive, depending
on its route into the UK.

They are unable to confirm how quickly they will get through the backlog,
nor to tell us how many CTO models will need to go out before M9457BA
appears. However, a shipping notice is always good news - at least the
machine really does exist!

Thanks for your patience everyone.

So it seems that CTO orders are going to be shipped before stock orders. Just quickly updated my order to have a bigger harddrive to make it a CTO.

Why do things have to be so complicated?

I can do that, as long as it's anon.

I'll PM you

?? Why in heaven's name would they do that? Didn't they give a specific reason, or is there a logical thing to this?

There goes my motivation of ordering a completely stock model..

You think this would accomplish the job?

http://www.buy.com/retail/product_j...rm=10346094&Type=PE&Category=Comp&dcaid=17379

2.5G5 & 23" Cinema HD Display <= 600W

Give you a good 7 minutes to save your work and shut down.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it would probably make most sense to just get one that fulfills the "Fully Loaded Max"

http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=10346095&loc=101&sp=1

That should power a "Fully Loaded" G5 and a Cinema Display for about 6 minutes.

Any Suggestions?

Another wait is over - maybe

Just got off phone with apple. My G5 with 1g RAM, BT wireless key board and mouse should ship in 12 to 24 hours. Hang in there, it looks like 8/20 may just be the salvation day for many of us.
Ordered 6/9 on-line apple store - USA

But its looking grim for our 6800DDL orders.

Terrific. My bet is that they may ship today as I was told that the orders would ship before 8/20. Some other guy said that when he called he was told "thursday" as well. Good news! :)

I was actually hoping I'd be able to run the G5, one of the 2 LCD monitors, and external Lacie HD and the G4 too.. but that maybe going to far :)

I think a 1000VA model should do.

I am asking for anyone with UK a COMPLETED Apple UK order to PM or Email me with their order number. Steve
Steve there are two forum members on this spreadsheet that have received dual 2.5's. Just PM them. You can also email that spreadsheet to apple as a source of what's happening with European orders. Good luck!! --E

I've always had good luck with memory from Ramjet. The memory's always been of good quality and has a lifetime warranty against defects and firmware updates. Plus they come with ram heat sinks. That alone is worth it. ;)

I ordered 2 gigs from them (2x1gig) for $500. A lot cheeper then it was from apple. Only problem is the ram came in a month ago and is sitting useless on my desk. :(

If my G5 eventually gets here, which of these two would people recommend. I've been expecting to buy Crucial, but Ramjet sounds good, cheap, and what's with this RAM heatsink??

http://www.crucial.com/store/MParts...=Power+Mac+G5+(Dual+2.5GHz+DDR)&WSPN=CT392179

Details and experience would be nice. :D

ps- Where's my G5? ;)

Yep, cheers Solo. All sorted now. As far as I can tell, my reseller 'had a word' with Apple and Apple told them about the statement I mentioned above a day early to keep the piece. Hopefully my Mac should be winging its way to them as we speak!
