First thing you notice is that it is incredibly heavy. Might have to reinforce my desk a bit.

Once out of the box, I am blown away with how gorgeous it is. I have seen them in shops and tried them at Expo etc, but nothing prepares you for what it looks like sat in your home!

Running Hardware Test at the moment. More comments later.

I think that it does always make a big difference when you have in your your own home. It hits you that you really do own this awesome G5. Hopefully your desk will be able to hold the weight. Will look forward to your additional comments.

well everyone, i just checked my order status and it shipped yesterday and is arriving today!!!!! :)

i ordered it on 4 September 2004, so a 3 week turn-around is frickin' awesome.
i hope other people get theirs soon. gonna play with it when it gets here
bye bye everyone

i was wondering if anybody received a geforce 6800 until now ?

should i cancel my g5-2.5-geforce-6800-order and get an ati instead ? i think this waiting-game is kind of ridicoulus !

G******! They didn't manage to deliver today  Reseller handed it to TPG (Dutch UPS) yesterday. It only had to travel a couple of miles, which isn't very hard imo, this company specializes in doing that, and they didn't manage to do it. Sigh. Spent the whole day anticipating. I'm very tired now, I'd rather have worked today.

I'm a scared chicken

Well.. I decided not to go through with my whole 'betting on 2 horses', so I told my boss not to do the wire transfer, that way, the order will be cancelled automaticly after 30 days without payment confirmation, so I don't have to do anything.

I took this decision based on the fact that it would be a real hassle to be asking for a refund when both machines arrive relatively at the same time. Either way, i'd have to talk to my boss a lot and have him do all sorts of stuff. And frankly, I don't want to go through all that. Besides, wire transfer is slow, it would be the end of the week (if all goes well) that my order is confirmed, and I don't believe it'll be here faster than 2 weeks (was BTO)

So, I'm back at the mercy of apple to send some machines to my reseller. Hell, I'm the first in line for a standard machine, so it will not take another 2 weeks will it? That would place me at a 4 month waiting period for a completely standard G5  :D Scary...

Guys, we are off for the final 2 weeks I hope!

TNT process? schedules?

Glassbathroom/Ganders:

My (TNT) tracking status shows 'In Transit' and Eindhoven as of 8:30 PM NL time. Is that what yours showed yesterday? When did you start to see movement again?

Going to be a long day tomorrow ;)

Not able to greet it in person (landlord will sign for it  )

No news, good news ...

From 16:30 today it is now showing my order. Not much info other than destination London SE and that it was picked up today (28th).
Hopefully we'll have the same luck as Glassbathroom and Ganders and both be flying by this time tomorrow!
Fingers crossed...
Thanks for all encouragements ...

Some news :

Pick up date 28 Sep 2004
Destination Creteil
Delivery Date
Signatory

Date Time Location Status

28 Sep 2004*19:32*Arnhem Hub*Consignment Passed Through Transit Point*
28 Sep 2004*19:31*Arnhem Hub*Consignment Received At Transit Point*

How about a 'tomorrow' delivery ? Can't believe it yet ... until i actually put my fingers on it :D

But still sorry for such a wait :( Could have been such a pleasure. Spoiled by too many incidents.
Maybe I'm going to forget them all tomorrow ;)

However, it was good to spend these difficult moments with you.

And I wish all waiters better times :)

Well.. there can be good news, or bad news. When you order a machine with techdata today, the prodicted date of delivery is octobre 20th. That means that they must forsee a shipment in the near future because they have allready more than 60 backorders in line.

Or they just put a date on it.. who knows :(

Ge4-ce, i have some good hopes as well, if apple resellers in holland are receiving stock configs for customers, belgium can't be that far behind can they?

Hopefully you'll be able to get some good and correct info on thursday from your contact. Unless she tries to sell you some story again :)

Mine went from Eindhoven to Liege (Eurohub) within a few hours last night then flew to UK and was here this afternoon,so hopefully yours will be there tomorrow.

As for mine, passed hardware test no problems, and with a Raptor and 3gigs of memory it really flies!Happy at last! :)

Ganders now has 64 bits to play with...! :D

Thanks for the info! I just have two entries: one received at Eindhoven and the other shipped from Originating Depot. Seems kind of anti-climatic after a WEEK of waiting to see terms like 'consignment received at Transit point' and 'shipped from originating Depot'.

You went quiet on us and I wasn't sure you had it today or not. Glad to hear everythink is hunky dory. Still a little dissappointed that Mfx and I got bumped a day. Must have been a full plane or something ;) In the long run, what's a day after this whole ordeal (and it ain't over until I get my 30" up and running)...

I have 4GB supplemental RAM and a 300 SATA (obviously not a Raptor) ready to go in -- but I'll wait for the first power-up and hardware test before I start modifying anything ;)

YAY!!!

I Finally Received My Computer! :)
After three months of waiting I found it lying by the front door when I came home. The FRONT DOOR! I thought. Who the heck leaves a $3000 piece of equipment unguarded and exposed, in the front door? Stupid Fedex! Probably to lazy to carry it back to the truck.
Well at least it was in one piece when I opened it. However when I booted the computer I soon got a kernel panic! This depressed me so much and even more so when I couldn't get it to show anything on the screen after I tryed to boot it up again! Angry thoughts ran through my mind. $3000 plus $4000 more for the monitor and the computer won't even work! However when I reseted the p-ram, I finally saw the grey apple glancing at me and from then on it worked like a champ. I must saw this mac is a very fast beast. It's a huge improvement from my ol' Beige G3. Well, it's back to work for me.

Yesterday I received a newsletter from my reseller, which says that the G5 is in stock. Maybe the Belgian people here can order in Holland, dunno if that's faster, but it's worth a try... And like everyone is telling, it is worth the wait. I have them for 2 days now and they work excellent. They're very quiet, the only dissapointment is the new keyboard IMHO. Anyway, hold on for the last weeks, it can't be long now!!

Today's the day!

I'm probably tempting fate by stating so, but it made it from Eindhoven to London City by 05:26 this AM, so all signs are good for delivery today :D

Too bad we're under the gun at work, I really want to stay home, but that wouldn't be very professional of me now, would it? :p

Mfx, I hope you get yours today too.

should I continue waiting for my 2.5?

It's been two months for me. Waiting for my 2.5 with Geforce6800 etc. ( Yeah I know I shouldn't cry until it's been three months at the least!) My latest ship date is Oct 8th but I don't have my fingers crossed on that. With all the problems reported here and the 2.5 being a first generation machine I'm seriously thinking of just getting the dual 2.0 with the 9800xt - the Apple Store says it's only a 5-7 day wait. ( Imagine only waiting a week for a new machine and I save $ 800 or so bucks.) I've read that the 2.5 is 25% faster than the 2.0 and the 6800 is the next generation video card compared with the 9800xt but...
should I continue waiting ( at least to my next ship day comes and goes) and get the lastest and greatest ( and possibly flawed ) or get a solid 2.0 in a week?

Hi peer, are you talking about the dual 2.5? What reseller is that? Thx!

btw, glad you are enjoying your new computers, but what's wrong with the keyboard?

Klaus, we ordered the G5 2.5 GHz at Macwarehouse. Also, it seems I was a bit enthousiastic. I said THEY are great, but 1 G5 is DOA  So we have been waiting for over 3 months and now 1 of our 2 G5s is dead on arrival. GRRRR. At least I can work on one now, but my boss (who has the other one), has to work on his G4 a little longer...

ps. the new keyboard is a breadcrumb collector (ok. I shouldn't eat above the keyboard  ) But the keystroke is good. I think I just need to get used to it or something.

benelux backorders

I received a phone-call from my reseller this morning (I did ask them for more accurate info yesterday), en she said that apple benelux claims that all (belgian) back-orders will be filled at least at october 14th. Belgium is a small country, but I think they will need a lot of computers and a lot of speed to do what they claim they will do.

Hope it's true...

@peer nevermind you PM, had send it to you before I read you latest reaction.

Good news, let's hope you, Ge-4ce, all the others belgians and me wil receive theirs within the next days.

My techdata delivery date today says octobre 21st. But That has never been an accurate date. I feel that there is some improvement going on here!

At last... but first see, then believe..

Maybe you can separate the bumperstickers from your order, because I have reasons to believe they are holding up your order from delivery.
