Dilemma.. bumperstickers? or Powermac G5?

I think I go for the bumperstickers, and order the Powermac as a standalone installation.



BTW, we had some burglars on the floor last night.. 5 am, they threw some bricks through the store's door.. Everyone was awake in 3.6 seconds. Pretty scary situation.. They took some cellphones and a couple of camera's.. But had to run because I yelled "HHEEEEEEYYY!" like a maniak. I was Mad I tell you.. Angry! I was scared of myself! I now know not to buy a gun ever. Cause I would use it.. I would shoot the MF as leak as a basket!

It's gone! disappeared! My G5 should have been delivered yesterday, but it has disappeared at TPG (dutch UPS). Probable stolen. I can't believe it!!!
The reseller couldn't help it either, he could only offer me a replacement until a new one has arrived. So I asked him what he had in stock, and he had a 2GHz (2nd generation) with Ati 9600 and 250Gb, so I went for that. My girlfriend whil pick it up this evening , so I will have it tonight. She allready offered to do that in the first place, but I declined. How stupid I am.
After the recent burglery story on this thread and the guy who left a G5 on the doorstep without it being stolen, I'm even more amazed.

Damn, what bad luck! Glad you could score a replacement machine, so the wait will be more bearable. But damn, how can this happen?

My G5 is out for delivery, AND Logic Pro 7 was announced today! Unfortunately I have to pay the same price for an upgrade as I JUST DID about a month ago

Or maybe -- just maybe -- I can work this into a guilt-reduction package for them delaying my monitor / 6800, etc. etc.

I checked on the order status pape at Apple and my order has finally shipped. This was only after I changed my order. Now I will recieve a 9600 card and will get the other when ever. I only thing now is that it is shipping ground. So now I wait until Monday.

I hope others will get theres soon.

Yes, mine's arrived, but I won't be able to see it for another hour at least. Putting in an honest day at work here -- funny thing the TNT site still shows it as out for delivery -- but I called my landlord and it is indeed there.

Funny thing: the Apple-provided tracking URL still has no data. That is a travesty. Especially if you consider Apply is probably paying Bridge Point a lot of money for this 'service'...

Will post first impressions (and maybe a pic or two) tonight.

Regarding your DOA G5

Klaus, we ordered the G5 2.5 GHz at Macwarehouse. Also, it seems I was a bit enthousiastic. I said THEY are great, but 1 G5 is DOA So we have been waiting for over 3 months and now 1 of our 2 G5s is dead on arrival. GRRRR. At least I can work on one now, but my boss (who has the other one), has to work on his G4 a little longer...

ps. the new keyboard is a breadcrumb collector (ok. I shouldn't eat above the keyboard ) But the keystroke is good. I think I just need to get used to it or something.

What was the issue with your G5 that was DOA? Now that I have gotten a full refund from Apple on my 2.5 G5 that was DOA Monday, I'm trying to figure out what the hell is going on with the Production line. On my DOA unit the Power Supply would click when connected to power then nothing. What did yours do? Thanks in Advance, Mike in NC

My Adesso ergonomic keyboard, to which I am habituated, has no eject key, so when the superdrive is empty I have no way to open it to insert media. I'm hoping to find another ergonomic keyboard with an eject key. If anyone has a tip on how to get the drive to open using some key combinations, please let me know. I'm so pleased and relieved to finally get my G5!

dallvr, if you press and hold the F12 key, your main optical drive door should open/close. Only older machines (G4s) with two optical drive bays, pressing and holding Option+F12 will open/close a second optical drive, if installed.

Update: Dual 2.5 GHz G5 (August 12 - September 29) Status

My Dual 2.5 GHz G5 arrived on August 12 (it was ordered June 9 at 6:36AM PST). Aside from a few early kernel panics that were caused by a bug in the Apple fan driver and triggered by Hardware Monitor 1.1 (version 1.2 and later disable the fan monitoring on systems with this bug), my new G5 has been very stable.

I don't see any of the shimmering or wavy lines when scrolling (I have the ATI Radeon 9800XT 256MB), and my fans are almost completely silent except when doing something very computationally intensive (even then they're not as loud as my Dell XPS). I do get occasional fan revs when scrolling, but its just a slight extra noise and I can't hear it when I have music playing (which is usually).

All in all, my system is WONDERFUL and I continue to be very pleased with it. It is worrying that some more recent systems seem to be arriving DOA and/or having power supply issues, but so far so good here (knock on wood...). I still am amazed by its performance; I sometimes find myself waiting out of habit when the operation was actually completed nearly instantaneously!

I hope that everyone with a system on order get theirs, without any problems, very soon!

Well, what after an excrutiating 2-3 hours of setup, I'm now ready to start customising the beast. First, I had no idea you had to plug in the Bluetooth and Airport antannaes. My signal is so strong, that it didn't matter during the first slew of updates.

The personalisation process is not configured properly (I opted not to do the transfer from the old computer). It asks if you want to get your data from your .Mac account BEFORE it has determined and configured you Internet access. Trying to connect fails. (duh.)

Then I installed my 300GB drive (which is really only 279 in real-world Gigabytes) and my 4GB of RAM.

Then the Hardware Test (1 hours and 55 minutes!!!)

Anyway, now I'm rolling and looking forward to getting to know my new G5.

Thanks, this was confirmed by the Adessor people, and all is well.

I added 6 GB RAM to the 2 x 256 that came with the machine, and everything tested out perfectly on the Hardware test. All applications running as expected so far. Very quiet except during the hardware test and when things are running off the optical drive.

Well, now our uk-chaps have their machines, this thread has become pretty quiet. Is nobody else waiting since june/july or other european fellow waiters?

Oh well, maybe it'll shift my attention a little bit, make the waiting period seem shorter, who knows.

Haha, I had the same thing today. I took a day off from work (mainly to do some work that has been left behind because I was constantly on the phone with apple and stuff). So I get up at 10, power up my cellphone, and got a message saying that I had 2 voicemails on my answering machine.

Sadly there weren't any from my dealer, they were both from work

Euhm, well, honestly I don't know. I don't do yoga, I play soccer 3 times a week, helps me to lower my frustration level. And well, i'm living my life day after day anyway, not looking too far ahead. Been on a shopping spree a few times during the weekend, that helps . Clothes, dvd's, books, you name it.

And last week my nephew ordered a dual 2.0 from the same dealer, and I think he'll have it within 2 weeks, which makes it next week, so i'll be over there, drewling, watching his G5.

Oh, and on monday october 4th, there's a seminar in Kinepolis Cinema Gent. Apple will show off their FCP, Motion, Shake and stuff. There will be dual 2.5's probably, and a 30" monitor. So I'll be able to look at them, touch them maybe, so I'll be good for a while.
