Out for Delivery!!!

I am now "Out for Delivery". I am so excited, I have arrived at the last fence. The depot is only 25 minutes away. Even if they take a complicated route, it should be here soon.

Sorry Grebo & Mfx, I am sure yours will be on its way. TNT are great once they get hold of your package. I rang them and their customer service was excellent.

Klaus - I really hope you make the right choice. Cancelling and reordering direct may bring it quicker (but maybe not by much). Might cost you a bit more maybe. Tough decision. Good luck.

Cheers everyone,

Glassbathroom

Happy for you

I'm hoping that mine is out for delivery too -- only they haven't updated their system. One can only hope.

I expect a full progress report on your first impressions and crossing my fingers we've seen the last DOA unit!

It's supposed to be delivered today. I'm sitting here, waiting, running to the window at every diesel sound I here. Becoming unbearable now.

First Impressions

First thing you notice is that it is incredibly heavy. Might have to reinforce my desk a bit.

Once out of the box, I am blown away with how gorgeous it is. I have seen them in shops and tried them at Expo etc, but nothing prepares you for what it looks like sat in your home!

Running Hardware Test at the moment. More comments later.

Congratulations :)

If you order a new desk, I hope the delivery will be quicker than the G5 :D

gotcha!

i got it!!!

It came in this morning. As i was walking towards my office someone was letting the delivery man into my office, i guess they were going to try to surprise me hehehe, no luck :D

I set it up temporarily at work so it can run system updates and run the hardware test while i work.

I took pictures and will have them posted this afternoon/evening eastern time.

I've been waiting for a new machine since January.... i feel complete now
:)

ordered 6/17. shipped 9/17.

Continuation of Unfortunate G5 Experience Today - Buyers Beware

After receiving a DOA 2.5 G5 yesterday I spend 30 minutes on the phone with Apple Sales Support this morning.

Long story short. First they tried to get me to take my unit in for service. I told them this was not an option on a DOA unit, which they understood and didn't fight. They offered to ship me a new unit, but it would be 4-6 weeks for delivery....I'm just not gonna wait any longer. I got a full refund on my G5 unit and my Apple Care Support which I never registered. They are also sending Fed-Ex to my house to pick up the dead unit so I don't have to haul 58lbs into the store.

They were sorry that they were unable to get my business and apologized for the problems they are having on the G5 units. I talked with the sales manager about their QA and issues with the 2.5 G5's and they are not hiding the fact that they have some serious issues with this new system. I prefer to be on the sidelines until early next year to see if they get them worked out.

For those still waiting, I hope you get a unit that is solid and runs for years like my Tibook.

The rule is when you get multiple quotes from Apple you have to add them up. So in your case that is 3700 + 3000 + 4000 + 3600 + 4570 + 415 = 19285 euros

I know it's a lot of money, but I'm sorry that's the rule ;)

you forgot to multiply it by the number of delays :)

hardware test and ripples

my display ripples when i scroll..... stupid 9600.... hopefully is doesn't do that when i'm playing games, more importantly, when i scroll through thousands of lines of code...

the fans are on full speed during the hardware test, it's all you can hear in the office area, very very loud.

surprisingly the mac doesn't care that it is hooked up to a dell monitor :) i wonder what the dell thinks

sorry to hear this, it must be a real bummer to go through all that and have a doa, after such a wait I'd have been heartbroken. I know alot has been said about the 2.5's but I love mine, It can be a bit noisy, but only when pushed, Other than that I have no complaints. Hope all goes well with the next one. The last machine I had a DOA on was a 7100, It had loose memory.. Worth a check?

Not here........

Happily, no ripple on scrolling with my DP 2.5/4Gb Ram/9600. Why? I have no idea, of course. My first Mac, so... the learning curve may not be linear. Unbelieveable speed and the silence! Haven't been able to get the fans to ramp up yet, but then haven't done any graphics er video work yet. At 57yo, I do believe I'm in love again. ;-)

Re: Continuation of Unfortunate G5 Experience Today - Buyers Beware

Man, I tried everything hoping it would boot up and show me some love.

Check all cables, memory, harddrive, reseting the logic board, fans, connection of power button to the motherboard. Nothing. Very disappointing. I think one of their production lines has a logic board power issue. The power supply just clicks when it is connected to power and the power button does absolutely nothing.

Oh well, at least they gave me a full refund without fighting it. The sales rep sounded as worn out with the G5's as I was spending all night trying just to get it to turn on. Only thing he could really say was, "were sorry, but its a new product". I broke my basic rule of never buying the latest and greatest from Apple and going with the 2nd Gen edition which usually has the kinks worked out. I'm gonna let others be the ginnie pigs and help them QA their stuff since they obviously have big trouble doing that themselves......

I wonder how this happens? They have to do some kind of hardware testing once the machine is assembled. Are the power supplies so shoddy that they only light up once and then die?

Steve Jobs must be livid. There may be some jobs and contracts opening up at Apple soon.

Are you using the dvi-vga adapter? I am tempted to hook the g5 up to the 17" studio display here (adc) and see if i get the same effect. i remember this being mentioned earlier, like 4,000 posts ago ;)

Betting on 2 horses

Well guys..

I've placed my order online today for a dual 2.5 BTO with 1 gig ram, no modem, 23" display, and applecare.

My payment method is wired transfer, so my order will not be processed this day, but hopefully until the end of this week.

I'm also keeping my order with my dealer, cause both parties will let me cancel if I want it too. And my online order even lets me return the products within 10 days after arrival. So I'm safe.

If my dealer is first, i'll be cancelling my order online, and they'll refund me (well, my boss).

Here's 2 hoping!

Yup, using the 17" studio display. I'd luv to have a 20" er 23", but location does not permit. So far, so good.

Congratulations

Congratiulations Glassbathroom and Aidomahn. I noticed it was heavy too. we have a narrow hallway so two of us carried it into my office. My new 20in. Cinema arrived today, it matches the G5 perfectly, it's nice to finally have a little more screen space, it's wonderful.

MFX, check the TNT site...

From 16:30 today it is now showing my order. Not much info other than destination London SE and that it was picked up today (28th).

Hopefully we'll have the same luck as Glassbathroom and Ganders and both be flying by this time tomorrow!

Fingers crossed...
