If it means having a giant slab in my pocket then no thanks. May as well carry a normal camera that will be even better.
I suppose they have to offer something to warrant the price difference because screen sizes apparently don't?
It still baffles why they won't put OIS in the standard iPhone model.

I've "aged-out" on DSLR - trips to Europe now, I just take pictures with the iP6 as a chronicling of the trip and I swap out sim cards for an all-in-one device.

You don't need a DSLR anymore to get those quality of photos. My Fuji XT1 has amazing quality and is much smaller, the m4/3 system still has good quality and is TINY. That is if you wanted to get a camera to take besides the phone. :)

Apple, just fix the current OVER-PROCESSING-OF-PICTURES on the 6 series.... my 5s takes waaay better pictures than the 6

If I see the words "SLR[-like] quality" and "phone" in one sentence one more time...

That some of the biggest PR bull ever and most of the media outlets chime right in.

Glassed Silver:mac
It's like a dSLR.. in that it.... takes pictures... and its "Really good quality"...... Depth of field? No.... Dynamic range? No...... interchangeable lenses? No.... So it's just a .... "Really good" point and shoot................... Yes.. I guess so

The best part is when the idiots who fall for that PR see my pictures (shot with a D90 from 2008) and ask me where I got them printed because they came out so much sharper than their iPhone prints.

But then you have people in the photo forum here who insist their iPhone is as good as an SLR and show side-by-side pics under ideal lighting to prove it. When you suggest they try shooting in dimmer light or compare crops so you can really see sharpness at print resolution, they never seem to notice those posts.

Quality is in the eye of the beholder. I think the general public could care less about taking great looking photos. As long as they can point the camera and get something they are happy with; then I guess that's all that matters and apple knows that.

Now if the laws of physics could enable us to have optical zoom the same as a 400mm lens on a phone, I'd be set.

The laws of physics are still being sorted out in Switzerland. We'll keep you posted but it's looking like a multiverse in which case you might be set...somewhen.

The "Improoved Indoor Photos"-LinX-Pic is quite funny - you can even see the reflection of the lamp they used to lighten up the background in the beer glass.

computational photography could do a lot in theory, so there's probably even "a lot more and better than current dslrs" in the cards, but that will take some time. i'd expect more along the lines of slight improovements and maybe a few gimmicks if those rumors are true.

So we'll start seeing pro photographers in sports stadiums now then with miniature telephoto lenses. No, I don't think so...

Please stop reporting DSLR quality on a smartphone. It's never going to happen.

You must be a joy to know, calling people who aren't into cameras as much as you 'idiots', your D90 only had 12MP and a max ISO of 3200, in bad light conditions it wouldn't fear much better. The only advantage would have a bit more DOF. It's like a FF D4S owner calling you a noob for using a D90.

I'm calling BS on "DSLR-quality".... Crikey, how often do they claim this baloney? But I do look forward to a better camera.

dslr quality can mean an old canon 400D, NOT a Full frame 5D3 with a big prime buddy

Or just buy a Canon 6D now and save buying the next 20 versions of the iPhone in order to get better camera quality. And start taking better photos in 2016 instead of 2036.

Actually untrue... and the XTI is a mirrorless camera which you may as well call a DSLR. However, the XTI has a cropped sensor. Meaning bokeh quality isn't nearly as good as say a Canon 5D3 or a Nikon D810. And the XTI doesn't have nearly the dynamic range of the aforementioned cameras... a critical element in pro photography. The XTI is more of an enthusiast camera than a pro cam.... but a good cam nonetheless.

1. Apple needs to give us some native photography modes: aperture priority, shutter priority, etc. The world's most popular camera doesn't offer its users much to learn more about how to take great pictures.
Maybe thats why its the worlds most popular camera, is because of the ease of use, and lack of settings.

Always interested to see where phone cameras take us, but "SLR quality" is pretty funny. I imagine we'll get to a point eventually, somehow, where a phone camera is good as an old SLR camera. But they keep improving too.

Man, how much better camera do you want then what is on their now.
Have you used a DSLR camera?

Why do I need to get a phone that's way too big for me in order to get the improved camera?
Without that...apple has nothing to WOW you.
[doublepost=1453941046][/doublepost]If apple brings out low light with ISO 250,000...i'm in..

The 400D would still outperform the iPhone for lots of reasons. Everything from depth of field, bokeh, sheer number of photons passing through the sensor, aperture settings, time settings, +/- EV, etc. They aren't even kind of in the same league. Just because one takes digital pictures does not put them in the same class.
