Do you mean the end of September? I wonder if we'll hear something from Paris even without a keynote.

I think it is very quietiDave said:Is it quiet? If Apple doesn't upgrade the mini or intro some kind of mid-Mac with a G5, I'll probably end up with one of those before they're discontinued for Intel. Not sure where I'll put it, but I'll find room.

God dammit, the wait is killing me.
Why did I have to get interested in getting a PB at this time? Why couldn't I pick up the interest two months ago, or a month later when I hear wind of new PB being released?

I really hope the possible update of PB will equip the 12" with a higher resolution screen. A wide screen one is even better. I don't think it would be easy for me to go backward from wide to 4:3.

If these were implemented into a last powerbook update it would kind of make sense. Apple could take the tact of new quality PPC's right up to the switch. It also makes sense that Steve would be at the Paris expo to field technical questions about the powerbooks but not making an opening keynote announcing them as at the same time he does not want to be too associated with the "old" apple technologies.
The next stevenote will see him at least demonstrating intel based machines.

Just thought I'd post this little bit of info. Yesterday, I was in Knoxville, TN at the COMPUSA there and one of the sales associates in the "Apple Store" section was an Apple enthusiast. I was talking with her about various aspects of the iBooks and PowerBooks and she mentioned that according to her Apple rep, new PowerBooks were coming out on the 17th.
I was pretty surprised to hear that because the Paris expo isn't until the 20th. But, there you have it.

Just take a clear sheet of mylar or similar 1-2mm thick plastic, cut it to precisely the right size, and place it over your iBook or PowerBook's screen. You'll get the XBrite effect.ZorPrime said:The WUXA screens with XBright or TrueLife are really awsome and have great colour responses/fidelity/brightness and great viewing angles.

There's a company that sells precut plastic sheets just for this purpose for $20 apiece but I don't have a link. One of my friends has one on his 17" PowerBook. It's sort of impressive except for the glare (if you're not in a dark room).

~Shard~ said:As has been said many times before, Apple sales people tend to know nothing about upcoming releases - Apple leaves them in the dark. So, although this is nice to hear, I wouldn't put any stock in it just because it's coming from an Apple sales associate. Regardless, it would be nice to see!

ZorPrime said:I feel your pain, I've been holding out for a serious PB update myself. For me, higher density screens are a must!
I doubt Apple's going to update the 12" anymore, the rumors seem to point to Apple dumping the 12" PB. If stepping backward from 16:9 is a major issue, then I would recommend waiting for the possible 13" wide PB or upgrading to a 15" PB instead. Especially since the 12", as it stands, isn't even HD, is 4:3, and has more in common with the iBook under the hood than the 15" or 17" PBs. If the rumors prove true, Apple's going to be introducing a 13" wide soon/some day in the near future.
Like all things, necessity it King; if you need it now then you should get a PB. if you can wait, wait.
good luck!
I think what my friend has is the MacAlly Screen Protector. Micro Center sells them for $20.ZorPrime said:That would be cool if you could get the link, I'd like to check it out for a compare and contrast.

You're welcome. I just confirmed that what he has is indeed the MacAlly Screen Protector.ZorPrime said:Thanks for the info. I'm going to order one and use my sister's 12"PB as a guinea pig.![]()
