This is my first post on the forum; I come to this site a lot and I too, am eager for a PowerBook update as the current ones aren't far more advanced than the current iBooks.

Just thought I'd post this little bit of info. Yesterday, I was in Knoxville, TN at the COMPUSA there and one of the sales associates in the "Apple Store" section was an Apple enthusiast. I was talking with her about various aspects of the iBooks and PowerBooks and she mentioned that according to her Apple rep, new PowerBooks were coming out on the 17th.

I was pretty surprised to hear that because the Paris expo isn't until the 20th. But, there you have it.

Right. That could be the 17th of October (or Nov, or Dec, for that matter). I wish but I wouldn't believe it. Check Apple's Site NOW: still, all models are showing "24 hour" ship dates. No way are they even beginning to move out older models.

Yeah the 17th of this month is Saturday. October 17th would be a more likely date for PowerBook upgrades since they still seem to be in good supply. There was once a PowerBook upgrade in November; two months before the 12" and 17" models were introduced.

I'm expecting one last PPC upgrade this fall before Intel PowerBooks next spring. I might buy one if Apple drops the 7448 in them. If not, I'll likely wait until 2007, or buy a used one in the meantime.

Let the clearout begin!

I was just walking past the computer store at my local mall and noticed that they have a special promotion going on with the Mac Mini.

It includes a CDN $200(?) Manufacturer's rebate. Promo expires September 25th. The timing fits with Sept 20th Paris presentation. Would also give Apple a chance to sell the new G5 Mac Mini for a few months before putting on sale for Christmas (or post Christmas).

Unfortunately I did not see a promo for the ibooks or Powerbooks.

Any upgrade from apple for the PBs (if any) would be interesting...the rumors have all been but enticing ranging from HD or dual core (now thats  ) to simple speed bumps to nothing at all!!!! On the other hand, I bought a 12 PB with SD not too long ago, and wouldn't mind not seeing anything interesting there (sorry folks...but you know the feeling... :) )

I don't care if this is even the slightest of incremental updates, anything new is cool.

I don't expect anything big like a new processor or super new features cause it would be a waste of time doing all that stuff only to change the form factor with the Intel machines.

As for Mac Minis, they were updated with the iBook, it's a bit early to be updating them again. With the recent xServe updates that leaves the Powerbooks and Powermacs as the last remaining candidates for a small update (no keynote = no massive groundbreaking updates).
I was hoping for Photo Pro - please?!
So maybe the Powermacs will go with the 970MP although I would've thought a big change in processor would need some explaining, especially as it seems to consumers the speed has dropped, but the Powerbooks will probably get a little bump up in function soon - I made a very safe prediction in an old thread and with current predictions it's looking kinda close.

I do expect some sort of announcement regarding the PB line at the Paris Expo. I don't care if it's something small. When I make my switch from PC to Mac, I wanna make it with the best PPC PB available, now and forever, if for nothing other than the sentimental value. :D

I don't think that Mac mini will be updated either. The Mac Buyers Guide considers it to be mid cycle, Just updated in May.

We only have two days to wait now. Tuesday is often an update day for Apple.

My hope the lack of rumors, and the canceling of Keynote is a move by Apple to surprise us all. However, unfortunately, I'm only expecting PowerMac updates. That is great, if you're looking for one though!

So what happened to my dual core Mac Mini G5?

I was hoping!!

A dual core Mac Mini G5?! Forgive me if I have no sympathy for you regarding this "disappointment"... ;)

The scary thing is, some people may actually have been expecting one of those...

Surley a G5 @ 1.5Ghz wont be much hotter than a G4 @ 1.5Ghz?

I'm just thinking, there is no need for Dual Core G5's and such in the Mini, just getting an actual G5 in it would be something. G5 supports 64bit dont it? So that would be helpful.... then again its quite possible that its not being done because it costs Apple more, and the the G5's availability. With how popular the Mini is no doubt they would be a drought in G5's lol.

On second thoughts what about all those G5's that dont make the grades? They might not hit 1.8/2.0Ghz but maybe they would be quite stable clocked down to something much lower and stuck inside the Mini.. that would be cost effective ^_^ oh well we can dream.
