I would imagine it would be great for someone that does a lot of document editing.

That's about the only thing I can think of for a dual portrait 27 inch monitor set up.

It's also very handy for programming and drawing. (personally, i have one in landscape and the other vertical)

ahh im so confused .. should i just keep this 27 i have and add another one .. or return it and get a single 30 .. i could get another 27 and it would cost about the same as a single 30.
You won't get your answer until you try one or more options and see how it works out for you. Bite the bullet on one. Return if it doesn't work out. Try the other if needed.

These are very nice, but I dont understand the purpose of the vertical idea
Like many other things (including the worth of dual monitors), it's a matter of preference. I found it useful when I had monitors that could rotate but I'm currently using fixed monitors.

At my internship last summer I used dual monitors and I loved that setup.

I currently use a 27" as an external monitor to my MBP but if I decide to get the new Mac Pro I think I'd buy another 27" or sell my 27" and get two 24".

First time using dual monitors. Is there a way with expose to have the windows separate? Whenever I switch on one monitor to another screen it automatically does this on the other monitor ? I want to be able to change the screen on one monitor but not on the other ??

I do software development, I can say having multiple monitor really helps. I have a Mac mini, with three monitors set up. one is a 24" in portrait orientation, this really helps when you need to read long code. The center one is a 24"in landscape-the main screen, where the main Xcode project is, the third one is also a 24" in landscape,
it is used for research or quick UI images edit with Gimp or sound file editing.
