According to Kuo, cost considerations and a niche appeal for the dual camera, which is found only on the larger iPhone 7 Plus model this year, mean that the feature is likely to remain exclusive to "high-end" models in 2017 as well. Presumably this means the dual camera would again appear only on so-called "iPhone 8 Plus" models should Apple continue to offer similar product lineups.

As for what improvements can be anticipated for the dual camera in 2017, Kuo indicates that optical image stabilization (OIS) is likely to be added to the telephoto camera. In the iPhone 7 Plus, only the wide-angle camera has OIS.While 2017 would normally be considered an "S cycle" for the iPhone that would focus on internal improvements rather than changes to the external appearance of the device, rumors have suggested Apple is embarking on a major "iPhone 8" or "iPhone X" upgrade as the iPhone turns ten years old. Apple is reportedly looking to move to a glass body and a flexible edge-to-edge OLED display that curves around the sides of the device. The 2017 iPhone may also see the removal of the iconic Home button and perhaps include features such as wireless charging and an iris scanner.

I want to share something I shared with a Youtuber that I follow.

"I just want to stress the fact that some rumour is going viral, which you have also mentioned about the 10 year iPhone anniversary. I have been an apple fan and follower since 1998. Following Apple's patterns, what makes you think that they will release a 2017 iPhone completely redesigned? It goes against all of Apple's sales tacts. Knowing Apple, it will release iPhone 7 S in 2017 with aditional features. The killer iPhone in my opinion will be launched in 2018 but yet again, a curved screen, wireless charging, iris scanner is not all going to be released at the same time. Apple is smart, and in order to continue its iPhone sales it will spread these features out thought out their new phones. So my personal thought is that next years iPhone will be an S model and not a killer iPhone or an iPhone 8 simply because it will break its pattern of S Models! I just felt like sharing this with you because you keep saying next years iPhone will be a complete redesign and that only will drop all expectations when the iPhone 7 S is realeased. But yet again, I could be completely wrong. Keep up the good work! I wish you all the best"

No it isn't. It's perfectly fine. Some people have small hands, some of us have bigger hands.

I disagree but, either way, the bezels are needlessly big. I don't even know how that can be disputed. It is the most unwieldy "phablet" device of any OEM. And I don't exactly have small hands. Still a chore to pocket.

I don't think I am. I think my presence is necessary to point Apple's faults rather than have everyone nod up and down like lemmings, too many of the faults fly right under the radar.

Wow this post just did me in. Mr. Malcontent and his presence are necessary to point out their flaws? Jesus Christ. The influence you wield flew right under my radar, that's for sure.
You must be reading the HobeSoundDaryl filtered version of this board, because the one I visit, crushes Apple more than praises and it ain't even close. Narrative delusion on overdrive for both of you.

The product line is solid, if not spectacular, and works for some. And if Apple is loaded with casual users as is purported, these faults are negligible and might as well not exist, for that type of user.

If Apple came to you and let you plan their roadmap exactly how you wanted, you still wouldn't be happy. It's plainly clear you aren't that type of guy. One of the "not-happy-unless-unhappy-attention-seeking types." But thank you for your miserable moaning on this board, keeping us all of us honest, who are too blind and lemming-like and obviously can't make a purchase decision of the appropriate product for our own specific needs.

Such a martyr you are...

Is there a phone that DOES cover water damage? Plus, no phone that I know of offers "waterproofing." Several do, however, offer "water resistance."...

Some do. Many don't. Sony pretty much does. Galaxy Active does. Others will but place extra water sensors inside and warn that water resistance decreases over time and "adjust" the warranty coverage.

Was a surprise when so much was made of it ("waterproofing") and find the warranty doesn't cover it in any fashion.

yep, another "band aid" for what used to "just work"

Much ado about nothing to me. I've been using a Bluetooth hookup with my ASUS jack for a few years now. Works great. Can see the annoyance on others who don't want to be bothered with such a "workaround." I love the wireless car setup though.

So, useless things like wireless charging, Iris scanner and curved screens (all in Samsung phones...) will come in 2018 and that will constitute what? Something great? What?

Even for Porsches you can tell they're different year models. Rolex watches may be better examples. But you're expected to own a luxury watch or a car for much longer than a cell. I'm wondering if there is a relationship between length of ownership and wanting the design to evolve at a faster clip.

There are significant differences between 6s and 7 so your point is non sequitur. The differences year to year for Porsche are very small (and even when do a big redesign, the differences are not that great either). Lot more changes from 4s to 7 than Porsche over that time, that's for sure.

They missed the mark with redesigned model this year so the pattern is already broken. So they have to release it next year.
Same design was used in 3G/3GS, 4/4S, 5/5S, 6/6S and now 7 has the same design as 6/6S.

so predictable. iphone 8 will have dual camera and that will be it's only upgrade. then the sheep will flock claiming it's the equivalent of jesus' resurrection

It'll be 7s next fall... Apple is good, too good, at milking stuff out and when the 7s does come and no 8, people will try to justify it and stick up for Apple.
For the 10th anniversary? Not likely.
[doublepost=1473629776][/doublepost]
If their sales tank (and they should) they're gonna have to bring it back.
Yeah, they'll do that right around the time that they bring Flash back.
[doublepost=1473630121][/doublepost]
Actually, based on how Apple seems to be running lately I'd imagine the 7 design to continue next year but for a 10th anniversary model to be launched alongside it with all the styling and features we've heard rumours about... for twice the price.
Interesting. A series 1 and series 2 iPhone? Possible....

Very innovative. Couldn't make a waterproof phone with a headphone jack but Sony and Samsung have been doing it for years... now they cant add the camera to regular sized phones?

I don't call this courage, I call it incompetence.

this is so sad, out of topic and completely wrong on all logical levels that it may be the single worst thing I've read this week on the web.

And, boy, did I read ridicolous claims this week.

Initially ordered an iPhone 7 Plus. Cancelled the order (good news for customers who want one, lol).

Reason for cancelling the order:

1. No OIS on telephoto camera.
2. No 4K video at 60fps (A10 chip is fast enough for this).
3. No reduction in the front bezel.
4. No 4K screen (madness considering it captures 4K photos and video).
5. No USB-C.

I did not mind that the headphone jack was removed or no wireless charging/ quick charging provided. With 8K around the bend, the phone captures great 4K photos and videos yet still a 1080p screen. I get it it's too small to notice a difference or it will take a battery life hit. However when viewing an image or video in 4K it's best to replay or review on a 1:1 display without conversion.

My 6S Plus is working out rather well, I find that many of the apps do not use the A9 capabilities after a year of owning this device. The "A" family of chips are great, however not a lot of apps are using it to its potential this includes Apple sadly.

There is no way 4K makes any sense at all on a 5" screen. I can appreciate other things you listed.

I have a huge Mophie wireless charging case and still have no issues at all. Pockets or handling.

Incorrect, next year is the 10th Anniversary and it will be the 8. They will drop the 7s. Every leak has pointed to this as well as their suppliers not being ready for the redesign parts this year, which is why they threw together this phone and the jet black gimmick.

Dude they created an entire new design process to make the aluminum jet black. You're saying they threw this together because other design parts were not ready makes no sense. Apple intended to release what they did and the jet black process didn't just happen overnight.

The rumors have already started gathering steam that the 10th anniversary iPhone will be one of most radical design changes, finally going OLED in an all new all glass design with the top and bottom bezels gone and the home button.
No, it won't be all glass (Apple already tried/abandoned glass... more likely to be ceramic, Kevlar, or similar tough stuff that is radio transparent). No, they can't eliminate bezels entirely. Need slot for earphone speaker, sensors, camera. Not sure about OLED... just as likely to see uLED as an Apple exclusive.

Even watches dive rated only use water resistant and not proofed. My watch is rated resistant (not proofed) to 200 meters. Devices offering proofed are sealed to much higher levels. Its a case of semantics at times...or how liberal a spin marketing wants to give it.

Rest is CYOA stuff in case of adjusting warranty. Water resistances/proofing relies on sealing. Seals downgrade over time. Even on expensive watches and such you'd use for diving the seals will degrade. Entropy as always says hi lol. Warranties tend to fade away over the years.

Mentioned earlier somewhere else that the sea is fun, beautiful....and corrosive as hell. Lifetime guarantee on seals fighting that last part...you aren't getting that unconditionally lol.

For the 10th anniversary? Not likely.

They have never released a 10th anniversary of any of thier product, well any anniversary. I just don't see them releasing a new redesign if they can instead maximise profits by releasing a 7S....just happens to be the same fundementally design 4 years running, with more "features".

I get it, it's too small to notice any difference. The issue is that the phone is down converting a 4K image and video to 1080p. So you have captured this great 4K still or video and you play it back on a 1080p screen. When you zoom in, it will not do it justice. I get the battery savings and all, not sure if the iPhone can use a scaling solution similar to the retina MPR and MB retina. Thoughts.

It's similar to having this great 4K BluRay title and you are viewing it on a 720p or 1080p screen around the ~50 inch size. It's nonsensical.

The concept of water proof is markerting , it's all resistance to a certain depth....how much pressure the sealing can take.

My jeweller who is rather old, has a pet peeve at the markerting that is "water proof " I see where he is coming from

Stereo speakers on a phone has to be one of the worst ideas to replace the headphone jack. Can you imagine someone using them to play music in public because Tim said everyone would be impressed.

On an iPad for videos, OK. But how about using two cameras for stereoscopic photography. Even the iPhone could produce good 3D with a camera at each end rather than just the close-up 3D mapping for bokeh of the 7 Plus. Who knows, it could even remind people to rotate their phones.

Makes sense. That's pretty much the only thing that makes the Plus worth it. I would screen size is an advantage too, but the giant bezels aren't helping

Well that kind of blows, the 56mm 2.8 second camera is 1-1/3rd stop slower and magnifies the image twice as much, it needs OIS more than the wide angle one does, LOL!!

I agree on the fact that the telephoto camera needs OIS more than the wide angle one.
But maybe they had to make a choice and were not able to provide OIS to both and they predicted wide angle pics will continue to be the most popular so they put OIS there.
I'd love to have OIS on the telephoto so I just hope it will make it on next year's iPhone

this was my first thought when I read this article. Like, WTF? no OIS on a real telephoto lens? I dont know about anyone else, but I know when I'm taking photos with my Telephotos, it absolutely makes any shake worse and that much more noticable, and you absolutely have to use a tripod for any nighttime shooting with a telephoto.

Well, to be fair, a 56mm 2.8 is not a telephoto and in the majority of situations it will still be fine without OIS because the 2.8 is the constant, the shutter speed and ISO will be what adapts to the changing lighting situations.

While I think it is still odd if true, I can see why it might have been hard to accomplish given the fact that a longer lens needs more distance from the film / sensor plane than a wide angle does. Depending on design, that could mean less room for something like OIS.

I'm not too worried about it at this point.

I agree, but don't.
If I drop my waterproof watch in the tub / toilet and something happens in the form of water proofing, warranty covers it.
On the iPhone; nope.
Was a surprise. Makes the claim about waterproofing/resistance totally meaningless.
