For me, it's not a huge deal to be honest. Big whoop, it has a 2x optical zoom and can create some bokeh. If I want good photos, I'll use my mirrorless Sony. I'm sure most people will find the 7's camera good too, it keeps getting better and better with every release. And if they want really good photos, they'll also get a real camera. No one will use a phone for professional photos. Yeah, some photographers use them for promotional stuff and praise them nicely so Apple can quote them on their keynotes. But thats just for $$, for work, of course they'll use a dslr.

Well then, they're incredibly stupid. I'll never buy an iPhone in that case and neither will a LOT of other people.

I'm almost half hoping that Apple won't ever update anything again for the next decade, just to see what it would take for you to finally jump ship. You're obviously not happy with the Apple ecosystem and never will be. So leave.

....The iPhone 7 hasn't even come out yet and we're already criticizing the next one? This takes all the fun out of enjoying this years phone. Just leave it alone.

Amen.
The sole purpose of Mac Rumors editorial comment forums it seems is to take all the fun, enthusiasm and excitement out of Apple products.
In so many ways, this site sucks... but like everyone else, I'm a masochist and keep on coming back. It's a mental disorder.

For the most part, true.

However, I have shot three magazine assignments with an iPhone and use the pano feature quite a bit for editorial and even some advertizing work. It's a tool to me and when the job calls for it, I don't give it the stink eye, I get down to business. I find the difference between a 28mm and a 56mm to be really big, most who use this will too.

And just for context, I shoot digital and film in Leica, Nikon, Hasselblad and film only in 4x5.

All lies. iPhone 6 has wireless, lighting albeit less storage. NAND memory doesnt require much space anyway, so they're clearly lying.
The only reason that really makes sense to me is RF interference as was mentioned in an interview. The headphone jack is an unbalanced audio port (unlike say, XLR which is balanced) so it could be susceptible to having components too close without proper shielding and such, I really don't know for sure, but it is unfortunate.

Ah cool. But yeah, it depends very much on the work you're gonna do. I guess for a quick shoot a phone will do too. And as the book says "The Best Camera Is The One That's With You". ^^

Nah, next year will be the 7S. It'll look practically identical.

If you're hoping for a radical redesign, point your eyes to 2018.

Incorrect, next year is the 10th Anniversary and it will be the 8. They will drop the 7s. Every leak has pointed to this as well as their suppliers not being ready for the redesign parts this year, which is why they threw together this phone and the jet black gimmick.

There has not been a single 'leak' that has pointed to this. There have been baseless, unfounded rumours. That's all.

Need I remind you about all the 'leaks' of the iPhone 4S? That 16 month gap, which meant Apple must have had something incredible planned? No. It was the 4S.

It's going to be the 7S. Redesign will be 2018.

Interesting that there is only OIS on the wide angle lens. It's much more useful to have image stabilization on the telephoto spectrum. Maybe it was too difficult to implement OIS with the telephoto lens array?

They are not going to release a "upgrade" phone on the 10th anniversary. It will be the iPhone 8. The dropping of the 7s will also generate buzz. You may reference this post exactly a year from now as you gobble crow.

Likewise. See you in a year.

I've been trying to confirm if the 56mm camera has OIS. Anyone have any info to back this up? Apple's tech specs don't really indicate yes or no.

Not only that, but the fact that the 56mm lens is 1 1/3 stop slower means that they could have used software zoom on the wide-angle lens for the same exact result.

Basically zoom lenses need a bigger lens for equal image quality. That's why zoom lenses on SLRs are usually much bigger, but for some reason, Apple didn't make it bigger.

The 2nd camera is absolutely completely pointless in the iPhone 7 Plus.
What!! Larger aperture lenses means nothing about image quality (read-sharpness). In fact often smaller aperture lenses avoid the softness and aberrations that larger aperture lenses have. The advantage of larger apertures is simply to let in more light. That is what people pay the big bucks for, as well as the unique look of shallow depth of field.
In regards to the second camera, no, software zoom would be nowhere near as good as it. The slower aperture means nothing in good light, in fact could be preferred since there could be better sharpness all over the frame due to greater depth of field, albeit could become a handicap in low light.

It's like a meal you questioned the wisdom of eating while in the act....it will come out sooner or later.

I'm not happy with Apple deliberately crippling all of their products!

AppleTV: has a usb port, but you cant connect an external drive and playback media natively
Mac Pro: $4,000 but it comes with garbage 5 year old GPU (and there are NO upgrades!)
iMac: Sells for $3,000+ but has to downthrottle the CPU due to extreme heat (lack of airflow) and ships with a mobile GPU in a DESKTOP
MacBook: Soldered RAM and glued on battery
Apple Watch: Useless without the iPhone, but the iphone renders the watch useless anyway...?!
iPhone: No headphone jack, limited customization, no file browser, etc?

WHY DOES APPLE CRIPPLE THEIR PRODUCTS LIKE THIS??

They said it helps them make the phone water-resistant. Not that they couldn't do it without the change. But the main points they made were Lightning, wireless and internal space. You can disagree that those are good reasons, but they aren't totally illogical. I'm not defending Apple, but nothing is stopping you from using the Lighting headphones that come free in the box, using the adapter with any wired set or buying and brand of Bluetooth headphones. There are many companies that are not Beats or Apple who make them. Bose to name one. And as a last result you could switch to Android or use a 6s or SE—many options.

There are many options and I for one am excited to purchase the AirPods when they come out. People like to complain

What you're talking about has been a long time in the making. It's been a slow, predictable process, since the Jobs era. It hasn't come out of nowhere.

Regardless; what you're upset about isn't going to get any better for you. It's not going to go back the other way. Apple will only cause you more pain from here. That much I can guarantee. So best leave now.

Yikes, too many rumors about 2017. Makes the iPhone 7/7+ a stop gap. Not that it's a bad thing, but next year is going to be a bigger and more real deal.
