Adding more memory is totally useless because it is not going to solve the problems people think it will.

It would partially solve the issue, and open up the ability to have more memory intensive apps in the future for a more powerful device (AutoCAD on the iPad Air 2 and the like). The problem is in software and because of this the hardware limitation gets reached quite quickly. A good real world comparison is you driving your car from point A to point B and not having enough fuel to get there so you have to stop and fill up. While it may be a bit annoying, and slow you down, you still get to your destination. However, the real reason you ran out of fuel is that you happen to drive very aggressively thus lowering your fuel economy, causing you to need to fill up. A partial fix would be to install a larger gas tank on your car so you can continue to drive how you always do, yet never need to fill up en route.

This is why adding RAM would be a positive thing for the iPhone. I would like to ask why you feel adding more RAM is counterproductive to the evolution of this product? You can say it doesn't need it all you like, but 20 years ago all people needed was 50MB of HDD space and 256KB of RAM...

there is more likely that the next iPhone will integrate a dual sim that a microSD card

I was carrying 2 iPhones when I went on vacation (1 US + 1 local SIM). I would have wanted the option of a 2nd local SIM but carrying 3 iPhones would have been too unwieldy.

I doubt if Apple will make dual SIM phones but I sure would appreciate it if they can develop a SIM which is capable of working with multiple carriers and phone numbers simultaneously. They're partly there with the Apple SIM for the iPad.

As per the beginning of this thread, I carry 3 phones. Trying to get it down to 2 phones. Would love 1. Repeat that in my interactions with people, this is not an unusual desire.

All forward thinking suggestions and comments most interesting and thought provoking as in the ethos of Apple and IT future. All that think "it will never happen" and so forth remind me of a thousand stories - true ones - about people who said things would never happen that now are here in the the every day. That is backward thinking.

SO if not dual Sim, maybe something that will allow different carriers in one phone as per rui no onna above. Or whatever else outside the box.

Saying it will never happen is an impossible prediction.

Just investigated the THREE offer. Although it is good for me, it is not good for locals. They will have to pay a lot to call my UK phone - so that is off the books unfortunately as it would still mean two numbers needed. Either that, or receive few calls!

Ironic, don't you think?

I for one would be very in favor of this. I travel a lot between the U.S and Germany and I find it a hassle to constantly switch out my SIM cards all the time and keep track of them. It would probably be a very cool thing for Apple to have, however I doubt there is enough of a customer base that would take advantage of this.

hi

USAmericans have no use for dual SIM fones.

the list of countries that do have great use for dual (or triple SIM fones) includes:
China, Taiwan, HK, Macao, India, and all SE Asian countries.
and, of course those people who travel between countries in Asia on a daily basis sometimes.

dual SIM is clearly not going to come from apple, if it needs to be in a physical format.
but don't forget that apple is trying to get network providers to agree to a virtual SIM.
in that case you would have not just a dual SIM but a 100 SIM phone.

the day when apple wants to reclaim that SIM space and use for battery space or something else is coming sooner rather than later. then we will have our dual SIM instead of fumbling around on trains and airports and at borders with changing SIMS.

The talkase mentioned above gets terrible reviews, as do all dual sim adaptors. Some mean jail breaking the iphone - no thank you.

We are not talking about a dual sim adaptor for jailbroken iphone, but a real extra slim phone. The talkase got good reviews, except people complaining about battery life, that last more 2 or 3 days rather than a week, but which device connected in bluetooth could last 1 week for such a small form factor ?
I'll give a try, I have no hope Apple will release any dual sim phone 1 day...

ah, a recent review: http://www.techolo.com/2015/05/talkase-mini-pocket-bluetooth-phone.html

Sign me up for one!

I appreciate my good old dual sim Nokia, when i traveled abroad and needed to use local sim cards... nowadays, its hassle coz i need to carry two phones in my pocket, so i can have two working sims, that means extra weight + extra cables\chargers in my bag.

Maybe the day will come, but i doubt...

i was an apple iPhone user since 2008 but last year I sold my iPhone 5 and bought a S5 duos. It's just a pain in the *** to travel with 2 cell phones, car keys and wallet in my pocket, plus the cables and charges in the bag... Don't regret. Could come back to Apple if one day they give a dual sim option.

There you are! I think the negs are USA based. Apple is global. Hope they listen. The Chinese are a-coming. They will fill the niches left by the grand players and in time who knows. In the meantime, I am buying a Chinese android phone to get rid of the cables, sim changing and confusion. My iPhone will remain for scrabble playing. Ironic, no?

I personally have no need for such a feature, I'd rather see apple spend its time on something else.
