Well, its interesting how many different threads there are for this = clearly IS an issue. And it is also quite amazing that so many people who DO NOT work for Apple are so sure what the demand is for whatever feature, and what the actual percentage might be. Who cares what you call it. Dual sim, virtual sim, several phone lines in one phone (hey isn't this what we have with landlines?). There is a clear demand for the option of different numbers that can be attached to different servers in one phone or they would not have ever been made by any company to date. I bet Apple is doing massive research and will come out with something one day that beats the socks off the present options. Maybe timed with the continuing decline of the landline? Re the more memory being useless quip, that is so ridiculous as to be laughable. Phone cameras are acquiring more and more pixels and people are storing more and more photos on their phones, and not just photos taken with phones either. And what about memory greedy videos? And the rest. Emails with attachments that you do not want to remove as they are potentially valuable one day?

I had a good laugh about my post where I said the Chinese are leaving. I meant leading. But then, maybe they are not. Maybe it will be some other massive continent? Who knows? It is all speculation in the end.

No thanks! And thankfully Apple is not Samsung neither should Apple follow or copy Samsung in any way.

Fact is, at this point Samsung, LG, HTC, Sony, and Microsoft are all making dual sim variants of their high-end phones. I think what holds Apple back is their focus on the US/EU/UK market.

In other parts of the world, it's much more common to have multiple SIM cards, because they still have a lot of free in-network calling packages, and often have easy to access data bonuses, so people switch back and forth a lot.

Vacations aren't really a use case for manufacturers, and carriers want to charge you for roaming, not let you switch to a cheap local SIM

The real use case that needs dual SIM is people who have to carry two phones for work. I bought a dual SIM sony because I was tired of carrying two. If there were a dual sim Iphone, i'd have gotten that.

It sounds like the embedded SIM in the Ipad pro allows for SIM switching, so it wouldn't be a big leap from there to add a second receiver for dual-standby.

[doublepost=1462104863][/doublepost]agreed. However the goal post is changing - roaming charges are capped now across Europe and will be completely abolished by the middle of next year. Just got an Asda deal that makes using a SIM abroad affordable. Looking forward to ditching a few of my sims and phones!

oh you mean apple shouldn't make phones greater than 4", have notifications center, spotlight, 3rd party keyboards, adblock, icloud drive, photos sync.... oh wait. apple already copied all that!

Do you honestly think Apple has not copied some of the things Samsung has done?

Apple is notorious for playing it safe, seeing how new trends and features go with Android phones, then taking some of the better features and improving it, then implementing them into the next iPhone/iOS.

let me correct that for you: Apple plays it safe. Many of the times letting others (companies, hackers,) develop concepts, then outright steals them. Any when someone else copies their, say rounded corners, they can sue since they're like any other big corp. a company of lawyers and spin masters more than engineers.

No argument there, I was trying to be polite ;)

How many people need a dual sim phone? Too few to make it worthwhile
In North America, that's true. Overseas, dual SIM phones are pretty standard.

Depends on how your carriers are. Where I am, even iPhones under contract are unlocked so dual sim isn't necessary. I just pop another carrier's sim into my phone when I'm overseas

I don't think the purpose of dual sim is for traveling. Its for those that have two lines.

if you are really serious about that view there is a fundamental lack of understanding of what companies go through to develop products.

oh really? pointing out the truth is lack of understanding? I don't care what they have to "go" thru... spare me your holier than thou attitude

That is not the "truth" by any stretch of the imagination, that is your spin. and if you are going to put at such a narrow view expect comments.

sure. you are entitled to your opinion, probably as an "Experienced" towing-the-company-line technocrat. the rest of us, can think independently.
