What a b@stard!!!! Oh hell he's lucky that I wasn't around to see him do that.. would have smashed his face against the windshield repeatedly. I've had ducks as pets and they are the cutest things.. (I had 3 ducklings.. huey louie and dewey.. yeah yeah i was 10 at the time..pardon the spellings!!) They'd follow me everywhere..in a line..as though i was the mother duck. They're pretty intelligent (more than my wife's cat for sure) I sincerely hope they arrest this individual and yes, I'd gladly pay more tax to keep him in prison. Who knows who he targets the next time? Just might be humans.

I guess the point I'm trying to make is while everyone believes that the legal system works in this country it doesn’t seem to always work, slapping someone in prison for a couple of years seems like a bit of a slap on the wrist considering he probably gets an air conditioned cell, food to eat and clothing and while he's locked up he's ending up costing hundreds of thousands of dollars of tax payer money each year and that’s for one in mate x the thousands that are in prison for life so I'd much rather spend the ~110,000 a year that I read somewhere into something more productive like the school systems or what not. The guy with killing the ducks would probably get no more then a year or two in jail, which might be 55,000-220,000, which I think, is sad. Also as for the thousands of people on death row I dont understand why they cant just give them 3 months after the courts and appeals and then lethal injection or shoot them execution style rather then keeping them @ ~110,000 a year of tax payer money till they either die or get killed. I know some people would argue that as as a society we need to be more civilized and humane then the people that commited acts of murder and what not but how does that help us when the crime he committed basically just paid off, he gets a cell and a place to sleep, three meals a day, he can go and study for a college degree and what not. Theres probably those people that will say that sitting in a prison cell is hell and makes people think about what they've done and they sit there with the guilt of killing someone but some of these people are so cold and vile that I doubt it makes a bit of difference to them what they did, they're in prison which as I mentioned above gets three meals a day and what not and heck some people commit crimes just to get off the streets where its cold and what not.

Like I said I just dont understand the whole legal system, sure its civil and gives fair rights to people that go through it but what about us as tax payers? What about the victims and families that still have to pay taxes to keep them locked up? Wouldn’t it be easier and less of a drain to give death row inmates 3 months and that’s it? or people that are in prison for life without parole?

BTW This was somewhat off topic to the duck killings but as I said I just dont understand the legal system sometimes.

I'm not all that fond of ducks myself - there is a pair that live on our lake, the flightless kind, and they have a tendency to end up on our beach or our neighbors - the poop is nasty and its not something you like to go swimming in....

However, this is not right. Running them over with a car? I'm pretty sure with the video they'll end up finding the person involved, but I hope sooner than later. That's one sick individual.

Update

Just a little update regarding this duck killer. There seems to be a $1,000 reward or more.

Article at KTVU website said:
CAMPBELL -- A reward of more than $1,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of a man who killed 10 ducks at a popular Campbell car wash by running over them repeatedly with his car.
The incident happened on Aug. 5 at approximately 12:30 a.m. at the Delta Queen Classic Car Wash at 981 E. Hamilton Ave. When managers of a local car wash arrived for work the next day, they were stunned to discover a gruesome scene -- the mangled bodies of ten ducks, favorites of the community who lived in a nearby pond.
When they turned to security cameras at the Delta Queen Classic Car Wash, the managers discovered the culprit. A man in a red two-door Acura is seen driving over the ducks five our six times. The grainy images also show him climbing out of the car several times to chase the birds, and apparently pick up one or two of them and slam them against the car.
"These ducks are an icon in Campbell -- everyone knows these ducks," said Campbell police Captain Russ Patterson. "For someone to purposely, willfully do this -- there's no reason for it."
Unfortunately, the car's license plate was not clearly captured on the tape during the incident which occurred shortly after midnight August 5. Car wash manager Mike Davis said it appeared to be a California vanity plate, but the characters were unreadable.
Crime Stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the animal abuser's arrest. The car wash is currently offering an additional $200.
Davis said as many as 15 ducks survived the attack. Ducks have lived at the Delta Queen pond since 1972, when customers dropped off a pair named Cheese and Quackers. The pair went on to produce many offspring.
Police are searching for the driver, who appears to be in his late teens or early 20s, with short, dark brown hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt and blue jeans.
Patterson said officers were distributing a still photo of the car, hoping that people might recognize it or could identify the license plate. The Delta Queen has also released portions of the security video.

This makes me sick.

I hope they catch this guy and make him pay.

Ducks are defenseless and don't harm anyone! (well, unless you're a junebug, but eh!)

Just cute, little quacking balls of feathers with big feet!

Even though I'm a peace-loving hippie who never resorts to violence, you'd better hope the cops get to him before I do...

which will almost certainly happen because I'm in Texas, but IF I WEREN'T..

*shakes fist*

Absolutely sickening. That guy should be arrested for animal cruelty, then tarred and feathered.

Sorry to make a joke in a serious thread like this, but...

I'm not, what I’d do if I caught up with this guy would be to take him and stick him in a closed off parking lot or alley and take his own car and hit him a few times with it just to see how he feels after it, if he's not dead by then grab him and slam him into his own car like he did with flushing the rest of the ducks out.

I'm sorry but I'm more for eye for an eye then I am for a mental institution, why lock this guy up feed him clothe him and spend tax payer money on keeping him locked up?

Er, you do realize that eye for an eye is corporal punishment right?

I say whoever figures out the culprit first gets to slash his tires, cut up his rims, sandblast random patterns into the paint of his car, and then sandblast random patterns onto his ass.

What a complete and total wanker! I hope the **** gets a good kicking from someone who recognises him for doing this. What an abhorrent excuse for a human being!
Alright alright that's enough! This thread has gotten far too British! [/grahamchapman] ;)

If they've got it on tape, can't they see his license plate?

To instigate some flames, this leaves me rather cold. I don't really like animals with wings. They're just too noisy. :)

But not that you'd see me going berserk and commiting a slaughter.

I would love to get a bunch of people from the BodMod community to kidnap this jerk and suspend him in a full body suspension, and leave him suspended over the dead ducks.

Why didn't the ducks fly away? Were their wings clipped? Yes, it was random and violent, but it's not that tragic.

Probably because he he was going fast and the ducks didn't have time to get out of the way. From the story, it sounds like he tried 3 or 4 times. I'll have to disagree and say it is tragic.

Those videos of the car's license plate should be good enough to run temporal sharpening on. I'm not sure why the cops haven't done that already, but I guess since this was no homicide, it wasn't high on their priority list.

Most likely it was the owner going through the tapes, the police probably hadn't looked over it at the time of writing that article.

I wonder if we'll get any updates.

are you people serious?!

You can't all actually be this upset over the death of some ducks. I for one find that hilarious. Now, running over my ducks isn't my way of having a good time, and i could never enjoy that, but the fact that this person got exactly what he wanted, pissing off a bunch of people by running down some birds, cracks me up. not to mention they are ducks. Avg. lifespan for a duck has been estimated at 1.5 years in some studies, and a third of ducks die in their first year. Most other ducks don't live past 5 years. I don't approve of senseless killing of animals, but the fact that this is news splits my sides. For anyone who cares, on my way to work every day i see at least two or three deer dead on the highway, at least a third of which i'm sure a hillbilly aimed for and intends to pick up on his way back. Send out the broadcast trucks, this is going prime time.

I didn't want to be as direct about it as you, but yeah I found the story really hilarious. Why would anyone go through the trouble of running over them for a number of times. They guy must really be frustrated about ducks.

That's just not cool. :(

Agreed. I am kinda afraid to read the article. I think ducks are the absolute coolest animals out there.

Yeah, I've had a pair of pet ducks and they really do make great pets when kept outside all the time... I really miss them dearly... I remember they would quack next to my window in the morning to wake me up for school, and they would wait next to the mailbox when i got off the bus, and they would follow me down the driveway... *sigh*

I want pet ducks. That would rock, hard. I'd make them a really nice pond and sit outside with my laptop and hang out with them. And they'd duck wobble over to me to see what's going on, and we would shoot the breeze. I would just need to teach them to poop in one corner of the yard or something. :)
