Then entire front panel of an iPhone 7 is colored glass. That is why they delayed the release of the white iPhone 4 for 9 months. They had issues painting the glass. The Touch ID button has a metal plate underneath but the top part of the button itself is glass. I'm not being hostile. I'm sorry if you are it's coming across that way.

are you certain about that? I only ask because I have had exactly what the OP is describing in the bezel of my iPhone 4 - granted it was a while ago.

I thought it was a clean sheet of glass and they paint the back of it. I am no engineer but I would figure it to be next to impossible to colour the glass in around the edges yet leave the middle of it clear for the screen.

edit - I also thought they delayed the white iphone 4 due to the flash coming through the white paint at the back of the phone, thus affecting the picture quality.

Yes. The iPhone 4 white was delayed because the paint was chipping off the glass. (And something to do with UV rays).

Edit: There were multiple reasons why there was a delay. Paint was one of them. But regardless, there is no plastic in the home button. Its a glass surface with a metal plate.

so the glass is painted?

Until someone can prove otherwise I believe that the home button is a clear sapphire panel and the back of it is painted white/black.

EVEN if it isn't, there is still some possibility that some debris got caught in the glass during the manufacturing process and is stuck inside the glass, possibly what the OP is experiencing.

Well the home button is a solid piece of glass with all the components required built in.

The glass itself must be painted. Whether it be on the inside or outside, its not a clear piece of glass and therefore there is no dust inside the button. Yes it could be a defect in the glass itself, but thats it.

Here is the breakdown. The color is part of the top layer, which is the glass.

Yeah! it is possible its not plastic its still glass regardless if it isnt a real home button, but apple wouldnt replace it for an issue like that would they

they replaced my 4 for the same reason. I have had my jet black 7 plus replaced 3 times due to manufacturing errors. Your call, if you kick up enough fuss they will replace it.

ahh you had it as well?

Alex is referring to dust getting under the button. That's not possible with a 7 as the button is part of the front displays and does not click. When dust gets under previous buttons it causes a crunchy click feeling. That's not possible now. Your issue is not the same.

no no i agree im just saying i see a spec of dust underneath the glass layer of the home button

And we are saying that's not possible. You may have a defect on the glass itself but it is definitely not under the glass.

What Alex described is 100% different.

Perhaps a piece of dust got between the paint and the glass during manufacturing.

Why are people arguing about this?

That's what I'm saying the home button is still glass it's not a solid black button unless I'm wrong

The spec of dust could be a Who. @sharabii , have you heard any singing from the trapped spec of dust? Your real name isn't "Horton" by chance, is it?

;):D
