Stupid millenials... stupid, stupid millenials who don't understand the basics of photography and need their phone/software to do it all. Get a real camera, learn some basics, and enjoy real photography.

"the best camera is the one that’s with you."

Chase Jarvis

I have a nice camera and several lenses. I use the iPhone more often as a camera because it is always on me. The "real camera" isn't something I put in a pocket and walk around with all the time.

I think it is funny for someone who claimed DxO was corrupt and companies PAID for their high marks...to not come to the same conclusion for Apple? Are you reversing your stance on DxO now

I’m sure you weren’t referring to me.

I still believe in their bias, one of the only phone to be able to capture 4K at 60fps. And they only got a 96 for video.

What else could it be?

You do realize corruption and bias are two very different things, or you might not.

I

Can you show me this?
I hold Apple to very high standards and expect a lot from them. I can also be critical of them and still be a fan.....
You should try that once in a while.

But you are correct...i don't like some Apple users....because of their blind fandom.....

Well I’m sure the feelings are reciprocated in kind.

so then you have nothing?
You stated in other threads that DxO was corrupt. That their higher ratings were bought and PAID for by the company receiving the higher ratings. Do you still feel that way now that Apple received a high rating?

Show me one post where I called dxo corrupt instead of bias.

Go ahead I will wait.....

I’m not a Camera aficionado or a professional photographer, but all I have to say is, the iPhone X takes stunning Photos. I have yet to receive my iPhone XS Max, but from everything I have seen, it’s just amazing what a smart phone camera is capable of taking for photos compared to the technology that we had 10 years ago in 2007 with the first iPhone.

Numerous threads in other sections....
are you DENYING YOU SAID DxO ratings were paid for by other companies?
Are you?? Because I can pull those up where you insinuated that. You know I can..... even if you went back and edited them it will show when you edited them....the there is cached mode too.....

When Samsung is top of the DXO Mark scoreboard, DXO is important to Samsung owners.
When Samsung isn’t at the top, it’s not important to Samsung owners.

When another Android phone is top of the scoreboard, Samsung owners think it’s a fix.

When an iPhone isn’t high up the list, iPhone owners don’t care and Samsung owners make a big deal about it.
When an iPhone is doing well on the scoreboard, iPhone owners still don’t give a crap because “winning on numbers” is a Samsung thing, not a real life thing.

I really don't know what you're arguing then. You are pretty much saying you've seen the photos and from your subjective opinion, the difference isn't great.

DXOMark does some scientific testing and the Pixel 2 is lower on their list. If you think it's just as good, buy a Pixel. If we use the DXO findings, it's not and that's better than subjective "I think they look the same" or "not worth the minor improvement" posts.

Based on that, buy a Xiaomi. Scored well, costs half the price.

My point was, most people aren't going to buy phones that offer similar or worse features than the iPhone they've used for years. I was making a larger point.

And I'm not a huge DxO fan other than they post their methodology and use numbers to make claims. I don't always agree with their findings. The P20 Pro has a crap video mode, yet they gave it good marks. Rumor has been Huawei might have paid them.

I respect that .

I not arguing, I’m asking what is the big difference between IPhone Xs and pixel 2 . Cause I frankly find the DxO measurements to be meaningless.

I have no intention of buying a pixel, the iPhone is perfect for me, but geez my Xs camera is not much better than the pixel two, that is just plain bias at work. I hate his silly attitude that if you question x, leave and buy alternative product , it’s not about throwing ones toys out of the pram.

iPhone is perfect for me. It’s camera is not much better than what is offered in android side. It’s on par and holding its own is my point

Asking for a source on a comment thread for an article specifically showing the Google Pixel 2 scoring lower than the iPhone XS doesn't make much sense.

The "much better" statement might be stretching it. However, it was probably just emphasis added because they were annoyed at people saying the Pixel 2 was better on comments on an article specifically showing that not to be the case.

I agree with you. Though These scores are meaningless , DxO has lost a lot of credibility over the years, meaning that they are only relevant in cases like this , where apple fans hail them a source, but give it 6 months when x decice claims top spot , and suddenly call of them no longer being relevant spread. This is my issue, DxO is only relevant when it’s scores support the narrative , the hypocrisy is very annoying . My personal opinion , DxO is never relevant. And this is from an apple supporter. So anyone using them as a source ..... I’m annoyed when the same posters have flipped back and forth.....

View attachment 791756 I’m testing out the new super secret iPhone camera which will blow all smart phone cameras out of the water.
Nah - many here will tell you the IPhone Xs takes better pics than a 1dx :p .... DxO says so.... ha ha .

Just wait until the Pixel 3 ships, the Apple fan may change their minds on DxO again.
It’s the same camera as the pixel 2 except the supposed two front cameras. No zoom lens. They might be a little better, but computational photography can only take you so far with one lens.

Has it been confirmed that both/all Pixel 3 will have the exact same camera module as the Pixel 2? I haven't been following the rumours all that closely.

I would expect the Pixel 3 to be improved even if only slightly due to the new and better computational methods. A second camera is only an advantage in afew situations such as; you get a longer focal length for distance and how Apple has used it to crwacr fake bokeh. Google has been able to get the fake bokeh successfully with one lens and Apple will with the XR. One thing that made the Pixel 2 camera better than the iPhone X to many people was the it was shaper and didn't smooth skin as much.

All smartphones have such tiny sensors compared to ''real camers' the computational photography from their processors is all smartphones have going for them.

All these modern high end phones have great cameras, for a phone, and for all the limitations of DxO it shows the iPhone X, XS, Pixel 2 etc are all close.

Each opinion is different. None are going to be definitive. The rankings are so close that in the real-world, most will see no difference.
Exactly.Sure the numbers show one is higher than another, but seriously, in reality, the bottleneck for cameras 99% of the time is the user.

Don’t really follow google rumors much, but the few things I’ve seen are a hideous notch and chin. Supposedly 2 front cams and a single rear camera.

All the issues aside the camera is one of the redeeming features of the iPhone Xs series as it has caught up with the rest of the industry along with stereo audio recording. This is not possible without constructive criticism.

I agree for the most part.
But I do think all of these measurements and benchmarks don't really mean much to be honest. They are just tools to use to help people maybe make a decision as to what phone to get.
But in the end it is the overall user experience that matters the most.

In a post-Facebook mobile phone world the online nature of photography makes the pixel peeping of dxomark a bit obtuse. The big things that a discerning eye would notice; highlight clipping, noise, color shifting, color accuracy...doesn't need sophisticated test equipment.

But I do agree Dxomark is a tool that is used by fans, sometimes mainly as a tiebreaker. Doesn't necessarily need to be apple fans.
