Assuming emulation performs adequately, it's a way better solution than Sony's total ripoff and high latency streaming solution for backwards compatibility.
Absolutely. Though the benefits of Sony's system is the ability (in theory) to play any Playstation game on any device. I'd love for the PS4 to be able to do it all locally and stream in-house to other devices. I imagine with enough pressure they'll cave in.

From what I can tell this is a universal emulator. Think of it like the PS Vita and PSP b/c. Games were released in waves as they were tested and approved. If it really is a universal emulator then the developers don't have to do anything, it's all down to Microsoft. So I reckon we'll see a much higher percentage of compatible games.

BC is big for other people because it means freeing up a HDMI slot, a power socket, space, one less device to maintain. In the case of Vita and 3DS it means playing games upscaled and smoother gameplay due to newer hardware. It can mean shorter loading times, ability to use newer/more ergonomic controllers. It is only a good thing.

This. I have way too much stuff hooked up to my media center. I would love to free up an HDMI spot by removing the 360. Currently I have way too many games for it though and randomly still play them. Also the Xbox One features it adds are great.

But I'm a huge fan of backwards compatibility. I use it when I can. I've been playing since the Atari days and any system I can play that gives me ways to play lots of older games on it I'm going to enjoy. I loved that about the Wii and now the Wii U. I used it a lot on the 360 for Xbox games. This is great news to me.

Though I am not against Sony's way either. I've just never tried it. But I'm about to get a new TV so I'm considering a Sony just for that built in PS3 streaming option.

I haven't tried it, but I shudder to think what the latency must be like here in NZ. No idea where the closest server is, but NZ to US west coast is 130-150 ms which won't be too enjoyable for first-person games!

I finally took some time to check out the Morpheus stuff that Sony presented. It's pitiful. Those so-called "games" barely qualify as tech demos. They really have no clue how to use VR effectively for gaming yet.

Yep it's this years 'wiggle controls'.... Unless they get the games were looking at motion control & play station eye popularity and same for Hololens too (could be the next kinect).

Few do though. Which is why I think it's best left to mature on PC before making its way to consoles. Also because there is no way a PS4 will be able to run games at Morpheus' specs. This is great tech but there's still such a long way to go.

I'm upset that Nintendo basically didn't even acknowledge Fatal Frame's existence. They posted a trailer on Youtube and showed it a little bit on day three of the Treehouse sessions. Didn't show it during the Digital Event and didn't even include it the games we'll be playing this year list they posted on social media ( it's coming out fall of this year ). It's like they want it to do poorly.

Disappointed by Nintendo's showing. I wish they'd focus more on franchises besides Mario and Zelda. I am happy Fire Emblem has become important though. Where is F-Zero?!

I hoped they would show more of Fire Emblem and talk about it.

Also No Mans Sky- strangely compelling.

Not sure what to make of No Man's Sky yet. Visually it looks amazing, but I worry that gameplay is just warping between planets that don't have much variation. I hope we can get lost in it and fly manually between planets, and we can explore with friends, and that the planet randomisation comes up with insane things. A game like that will live or die over how varied the content is.

If it involves a "download" to play the game, then the game may need to have some special routines above and beyond the universal emulator. Makes for a lot more games available.

It is nice that MS is letting you emulate games you already own, as opposed to Sony's "rental" system...

I don't see a lot of high-profile games being available though. Like Halo, of course, MS is going to want you to "buy" updated versions.

Nintendos E3's show this year was was unworthy. I don't have a DS. Not really interested in Xbox or PS4.

StarFox - Not sure. I loved Lylat Wars and StarWing but good lord the art style boring. The graphics don't really seem worthy for a current generation console despite Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D Land looking much better. I think this game is essentially a proper release of Star Fox 2 with WiiU gimmicks attached.

Yoshis Wooly World - Whats with the developer nonsense? Its a nice video, showing where the ideas came from but this is E3! Where is the new gameplay footage? Fortunately, there is a much better video of the gameplay on Nintendos youtube channel. As for the game itself - not sure, looks a bit too familiar, will wait for reviews.

Mario Maker - This should be fun...but I'd rather play other peoples maps rather than make my own. Not sure if I will buy this.

Other games: I only care if they come out for PC. Fallout 4 was by far the best game this E3. Doom looks good but it still looks "slow" compared to the older FPS games. Dishonored 2 as well. I bought the original on Steam ages ago and I still haven't fired it up.

Too much pre-order and exclusivity crud from others.

Agreed. I thought it absolutely hideous and quite disappointing since I was looking forward to it. If you look at MarioKart or Mario3d you can see how much a good art style compensates for lack of horse power but that was bland.
No online function is a huge bummer as well.

What irks me most is that Ninty now, somewhat as an answer to previous criticism, seems to focus on gamepad only games. Splatoon, now this, not sure how Yoshi works but what I loved before was the freedom of choice and the ability for off-tv play.

So far there really isn't something I'm waiting for - not that big of a Zelda dude so not even that. Dunno, maybe finally putting away my U *shrugs*

Not interested in the other consoles too tbh.

I like Zelda and Metroid but both those 3DS games they demoed didn't do anything for me. 2 years ago they announced the phenomenal Link Between Worlds, last year the new Wii U Zelda. This year we got a 3-player game that doesn't work with 2 people (apparently the other Links are controlled by AI's but only in single player). Not good.

Well, I personally don't care one bit for E3 (same with WWDC et al) but I can understand that people are disapointed. But the media loves to put a spin on things, last year Nintendo "won" E3 now they're doomed again..childish imo. One should not get invested in such nonsense. What's your take on StarFox btw?

Yoshi I'm partial about, loved every single platformer so far I got for the Wii U and always kind of wanted the Yoshi game, but the gameplay looks dubious (lol, for the lack of a better word) to me. Never really played the predecessors so no real idea of what to expect.

I'm not following 3ds, or any handhelds, it's still good, no? Always read that's a great and fun system with plenty of games.

I've got one of those Yoshi amiibos on the way but I'm not interested in the game, IMO the only decent Yoshi game was the original SNES one. Didn't like the DS or 3DS games.
Not looking forward to Starfox either. The art style is really uninspired and the transforming gameplay looks clunky. All I really want is a real sequel to Starfox 64/Lylat Wars, 90% flying and some levels in specialist vehicles. Throw in sections where random things can happen to shake up play-throughs (a bit like how Left4Dead does it).

The sad thing is here we are and we love Nintendo but even us longtime lovers are feeling pretty much uninspired ... That's not great.

I will be getting Yoshi this week though.

Thing is the past few years have been outstanding. IMO The best Mario (3D Land, World), Zelda (Between Worlds), Fire Emblem, Animal Crossing, Pokemon, Mario Kart 8, Smash Bros. The 3DS and Wii U have had the best games in all their major series. These games are unanimously praised, it's not like "oh Mario Kart Wii had better XYZ". I think it'll be a while before we get another run like this :(

I must admit I am still in shock over how bad the Morpheus stuff they showed was. Wasn't this the last E3 before the product launches next year? I really tought Morpheus was going to be a big deal this show, but it doesn't look like they have any worthwhile software to support this product. If they don't come up with some sort of killer app for it soon, it will be dead on arrival.

Tell me when you played it.

I'm not the guy to complain muc. Got some really entertaining games for the U and don't think there won't be anything at all anymore that'll be somewhat interesting. ANd I didn'T even got Bayo which I'm still on the fence about. Also not into Splatoon or Smash but think that are highly enjoyable games for a lot of people.

So basically it boils down to: if you just got one console and no PC and that's the Wii U: checkmate dud, have my condolenses :D but the U is a great complementary system and defo the way to go if you got kids at home and just want fun games with local multiplayer.
