I haven’t got a chance to watch the full video of the keynotes, but it looks like Nintendo won hands down. Kid Icarus, GoldenEye, Zelda, Kirby, 3DS, etc were all great announcements.

I was hoping to see some enhancements announced for the Wii itself (like allowing you to transfer your VC games over to a new Wii console — I really want the black Wii).

I was pretty disappointed with Sony’s keynote.

As I suspected when they announced it, the Move clearly has more in common with EyeToy than as an actual serious controller for the console. The tech demos were mediocre and the pricing structure is too expensive ($49 for Move, $29 for companion controller, $39 for PlayStation Eye, $99 for Eye and Move bundle, some games require two Move controllers, etc). At least with Natal, you’re just buying one device.

I also fail to understand why a company which owns both a major movie studio and record label can’t integrate those properties with their console division. Microsoft is leap frogging them on the home entertainment front with Sony’s own content (Video Marketplace, Zune Music subscription, built-in Netflix, etc). They really had the potential to make PSN+ something fantastic. Instead it’s basically a Qore subscription + rentable PSN mini-games. The PS3 as an entertainment device was hardly even mentioned this go around except for the slight mention of Blu-ray 3D.

I wasn’t impressed or disappointed by Microsoft. It was basically what I thought it was going to be (a long Natal demo). I’m not sure if I believe Natal will be what they say it will be, but they’re for sure backing it with their full might. I thought the Dashboard integration and video chat service was interesting. I like the new 360 hardware (it’s about time).

Ah, well. I give Nintendo the Gold, Microsoft the Silver and Sony the bronze (only because I have to).

Microsoft had a pretty lackluster show, for me. The games at the beginning looked great, as expected. And while I like the tech behind Kinect, it just isn't my thing, so that entire part of the show was just boring and dreadful to me. But, I'm not really the target market for that, so oh well. Reach, Gears, Fable, Crackdown is a pretty decent lineup of upcoming exclusives, I just hope they don't get lost in all the inevitable Kinect hype. The new 360 wasn't much of a surprise, but launching it THIS WEEK is. I hope it has fixed the hardware problems of the older unit.

Nintendo definitely had the best showing, by far, out of the big 3. Almost every game they showed looks to be a big hit, and have me very interested. They had issues on stage with Zelda, but the game looks great. Kirby looks awesome, as does DKC and Metroid. I really don't care if Nintendo keeps remaking franchises all the time, because I love their franchises, A LOT!! I also went from uninterested to VERY interested about the 3DS. This item will obviously need to be seen first hand to understand, but if the impressions from people who've seen it are to be believed, it sounds like it works well.

A+++

Sony left me just dreadfully bored with their show. Move is just looking more and more like a total Wii ripoff, and an expensive one at that. I'm sure the tech is better than the Wii, but it just doesn't interest me one bit. Then, when everyone was expecting them to release a new PSP2, they trick everyone and say they are sticking with the original. Then, interspersed between the endless stream of game montages, they showed a bunch of games that everyone either already knew about, or that were totally expected. The only real surprise was Portal. I'm happy that GT5 is finally getting a release date. It has been FOR-EV-ER that I've enjoyed playing a GT, so I'm hoping this can revive the greatness from early games. The new "Playstation Plus" service was a huge LOL. They talked about all these "free" things you get with it. But, you only get access to those things if you pay. Free? HAHA

Overall, Nintendo was the only thing keeping this from being one of the worst E3s ever. I'm very excited about Reach and GT5, but everything else from both Sony and MS is just a meh from me.

Cell-shaded Zelda? Aweeeeesome! :)

3DS looks horrid but I still want it.

Steam-cloud stuff on PS3 is nice. Makes me want full steam-service on PS3 (god that would rock so hard).

Being the whore I am to all three companies... I will soon have a 3DS, Kinect and Move... *sigh*

Great E3. Sony really pulled it together in the last half of their keynote (Though the lack of Last Guardian is really disappointing). PSN+ seems pretty "meh" but Move looks a lot better and more precise then Wii's motion controls; still not really a fan of motion controls though.

So far these are my must-buy's from E3:
- Dead Space 2 (looks to be a great game, loved the first)
- Need for Speed Hot Pursuit (Criterion's work seems to be worthy of the NFS name)
- Medal of Honor (looks like a lotta fun; MW2 without the suck)
- Twisted Metal (About damn time, very stoked)
- Gran Turismo 5 (what can I say? Looks beyond amazing)
- Donkey Kong Country Returns (Game play video totally sold me)
- Infamous 2 (loved the first, trailer looks like it'll be great)
- MotorStorm 3 (again, looks like it'll be great)

Assuming $60/game that's about $480 - wow.

OK, I'm going to adjust my initial reaction a bit. Bungie has just announced that Firefight mode is officially back for Halo: Reach, and they're adding MATCHMAKING to it. They also said that there will now be many more customization options as well. The Firefight mode in ODST was a good initial effort, but these new additions to it for Reach should make it a VERY fun mode. E3 is now sort of redeemed for me. :D

Shiggy confirmed that the new Pikmin game is still in development and wasn't shown at E3 due to fear of it being overshadowed by the new Zelda and 3DS

From the reports out of E3, the 3DS looks promising but a date or price range would've been nice.

Still excited for the loads of new software announced today (Kid Icarus, Zelda, DK, GoldenEye, Kingdom Hearts, etc) and happy to see the 3rd-party support for Nintendo.

Who was that guy with the suit who came on for a few minutes to talk about "being a gamer"? He seemed quite popular but I've no idea who he is and I can't remember his name.

I'm guessing you're talking about Kevin Butler?

Nintendo's keynote really impressed me. I haven't touched my Nintendo Wii console for over a year (Although I've been wanting to pick up Super Mario Galaxy 2). Now after that keynote, I suddenly have all these Wii games on my radar. Excellent work, Nintendo, you've brought me back.

Also, that Kirby game is inspiring me to make a much much better sequel to my old Crayon Caper Rescue game project.

Honorable mention to Kinectimals, because that was adorable. :)

So now, my list of wants:
Call of Duty: Black Ops
Medal of Honor
Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Kirby's Epic Yarn
Metroid: Other M
Epic Mickey
Dead Space 2
Metal Gear Solid Rising
Donkey Kong Country Returns
GoldenEye 007

Hmm...my list of wants after this event...it's fairly small. :)

- Dead Space 2
- Portal 2
- ......yeah, slim pickings for me. I don't want to waggle, and I'm not crazy about 3D at this point. All the other games...I dunno, nothing that left me drooling.

Looks like I'll pick up that PSP Go with the 10 free games after all!

Why would you waggle while you game Taustin?

Anyways, you should at least add Epic Mickey to your tiny list. Warren Spector is the man behind System Shock -- easily one of the best games I've played, which if not for that game and the others he worked on, there would not be a Portal let alone Half life, nor would there be a Dead Space(Which was heavily influenced by the Shock series.). :)

Millions of gamers should be asking themselves this very question, if you ask me! ;)

Yah, it'll probably be a good game...but I'd have to buy a Wii for it. :) But I agree, System Shock was quite awesome!

Squeenix wins eee for me. Final fantasy tactics on the iPhone? Sayyyyyyyyyyy whattttttttt? My favorite game ever? :)

But yeah. Lots of cool games this year. Nintendo actually has me excited for stuff..... It feels..... Weird.....

But we got over it by buying more attachments.

There's always renting, or hopefully a friend with a Wii. :) At least now if you were to buy a Wii, it comes in black... *grumbles.*

I'm now really tempted to buy a 3DS they compared MGS 3 and MGS 3 for 3DS the graphics for the 3DS look really sharpI'm now really tempted to buy a 3DS they compared MGS 3 and MGS 3 for 3DS the graphics for the 3DS look really sharp

You can say that again!

yeah copying pasting errror lol i was posting this in the wrong thread lmao.

My E3 prediction is that the 3DS plus Pilotwings, Paper Mario, Zelda, Street Fighter IV, Kid Icarus, Resident Evil and FIFA will be leaving a bloody great big dent in my bank account!

(Ooh, and Kirby on the Wii looks absolutely gorgeous.)

Being the obvious non Nintendo fan, I have the exact opposite feelings about the Nintendo presentation. It seemed like the same one as usual, but without a heart monitor this year. More first party roll outs that will come out sometime? ( Yeah, yeah I know you say every system has the big first party roll outs like Halo or a Mario. But the Wii is more heavily dependent on a Nintendo first party game than say Sony is or the 360. I've always thougt that was a weakness, and many felt the same way during the early years of the Wii and the low number of "blockbuster" games ) Check. A now yearly update to the portable system? Check. No upgrade or improvement of the current home system ( such as Pachter's missed HD upgrade )? No.

While it's true that Microsoft & Sony can be said they made roads to go after the Wii audience, since Nintendo still leads the way, they did add to their core systems. Both Sony & Microsoft already have a strong base in the so called 'hard core' gamer market, and now want in on the casual market. Nintendo's hard core market is exclusively for the Nintendo faithful who dearly want refreshes of treasured past games of their youth. Give credit to the likes of Sony & Microsoft who not only give Twisted Metal again, but did bring us the likes of a new franchise like Uncharted. I'll leave it to you to tell me what fresh new franchise Nintendo brought to the Wii. My point being that I am pretty sure for every one new franchise you may find from Nintendo, there are probably two to three for Sony or Microsoft. To me it just seems like Nintendo will run in place until the market dictates that a new progression is necessary, i.e. when PS4 and/or XBox whatever is announced.

The Move maybe a retread on motion control, but it seems to be a motion control with casual and hard core gaming in mind, which is commendable. Socom may be an interesting game to try with the Move. While the Kinect gets a point or two for just trying something different. Basically it seems like Sony & Microsoft are trying to move their systems along, which was worthy of notice. The Nintendo 3DS which is new and makes Sony's attempt at re marketing the original PSP seem laughable, comes on the heels of new bigger DS. It sort of mutes the new system, and makes a nintendo portable fan understand what it means to be an Apple computer owner. "What? Another refresh already? I just bought my Apple ---- 3 months ago!"

Not to go fanboy, but I am just pointing out that one's view on who had the best presentation can be colored by one's system bias or leanings. Myself leaning more towards ( simple accusations aside, yes I do own all three systems, with the Wii in the living room for all to play ) the 360, found the Microsoft presentation more interesting with the prospects of Kinect.

That isn't to say I was blown away by the Microsoft presentation, matter of fact all three presentations left me saying 'meh'. The EA presentation got me more interested, which made me realize that this year was more a software year than a system year for E3. With the numerous sequels, we are getting some cool new versions of old franchises, like the Metroid one, new Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, a co op puzzle game in the likes of Portal 2, and a seeming third person presentation of Dungeon Siege for PC.

Then again, I could just be finding myself becoming a jaded gaming fan, and E3 has finally just become tired to me.

Ah well... I am still excited to play the Medal of Honor beta whenever it hits. An Activision FPS alternative, I'm all for it!
