I haven’t got a chance to watch the full video of the keynotes, but it looks like Nintendo won hands down. Kid Icarus, GoldenEye, Zelda, Kirby, 3DS, etc were all great announcements.
I was hoping to see some enhancements announced for the Wii itself (like allowing you to transfer your VC games over to a new Wii console — I really want the black Wii).
I was pretty disappointed with Sony’s keynote.
As I suspected when they announced it, the Move clearly has more in common with EyeToy than as an actual serious controller for the console. The tech demos were mediocre and the pricing structure is too expensive ($49 for Move, $29 for companion controller, $39 for PlayStation Eye, $99 for Eye and Move bundle, some games require two Move controllers, etc). At least with Natal, you’re just buying one device.
I also fail to understand why a company which owns both a major movie studio and record label can’t integrate those properties with their console division. Microsoft is leap frogging them on the home entertainment front with Sony’s own content (Video Marketplace, Zune Music subscription, built-in Netflix, etc). They really had the potential to make PSN+ something fantastic. Instead it’s basically a Qore subscription + rentable PSN mini-games. The PS3 as an entertainment device was hardly even mentioned this go around except for the slight mention of Blu-ray 3D.
I wasn’t impressed or disappointed by Microsoft. It was basically what I thought it was going to be (a long Natal demo). I’m not sure if I believe Natal will be what they say it will be, but they’re for sure backing it with their full might. I thought the Dashboard integration and video chat service was interesting. I like the new 360 hardware (it’s about time).
Ah, well. I give Nintendo the Gold, Microsoft the Silver and Sony the bronze (only because I have to).
