I just launched the game on my iPhone and did not receive this request. Kind of imagine it to be fairly hard to implement this, especially if I usually only play it while flying and in airplane mode.

Hey EA,
Quick being cheap bastards and buy more servers.
(or give me a job)

So if EA just decides they don't feel like continuing a game people paid for without a refund then I think it would be fair to pirate the next Rockband game and then just pay them a few years later (assuming they are still supporting the game).

This is either fake or a publicity stunt.

How can they get away with it?
Ponzi Scheme?

What are the typical EA problems?

It's funny, some people online think that EA are better than what they used to be. Yet here they are taking away things you paid for.

Basically **** EA. I won't be buying any of their products from here on.

I'm asking for a refund for all my EA games on iOS.

I just sent them a message asking for a refund on all EA games that I have every purchased on my iOS device, if everyone does this, it should get their attention.

Unless they sold this software as a subscription, I don't see how it is legal.

Apple is going to have to majorly change things as will developers. Unless the start selling this items as subscriptions, discontinuing their functionality is going to be challenged

This seems illegal to me and I can't see how they could get away with it, but I am still trying to figure out why I don't get this message. Maybe it's because I've never logged in or bought anything from their music store?

I haven't seen the popup either, yet I have logged in and purchased extra songs.

Ive heard of discontinuing online service (something EA is all too familiar with) but an entire game? At least let people play solo/campaign...

The worst thing that can happen to a good video game maker is that they get acquired by Electronic Arts. EA is awful to their consumers and their employees. Its too bad their pockets are so deep that they keep buying up all the good indie game makers.

:d

I assume you're not talking about multiplayer games?

Even those. Though multiplayer computer gaming was rare for me I remember playing them over the LAN. Like Doom 2, Age of Empires series. As I recall the old Internet based ones had people with fast computers and connections hosting the game.

Generally I choose computer games with long involved single player gameplay. With first person shooters they need good campaigns I don't care for the multiplayer parts.

I can understand killing the multiplayer online servers but to kill the whole game even when offline? WTF?

It's not our problem if the music licenses they got were time sensitive.

Somebody start a class action lawsuit now.

But really who the hell buys games from EA? All they make is trash and sports games.

Gotta say one thing for EA - their incompetence is a blessing for releasing all those lovely Mogg files into the wild.

Slam one into Audacity and there you go - the studio splits for some of the greatest tracks of all time.

My fave is the bass channel from My Generation - Live at Leeds

Eh, I don't have a problem with EA. They'll continue to get my money as long as their BioWare keeps churning out games.

As to the Rock Band for iOS, i completely agree it's ******** on EA's part, and they need to get the refund checks ready.

I heavily lost interest in gaming overall when EA and others started making stunts with dlc experiments and exploiting their customer base by selling ad, spam and privacy castration as 'updates' or yet better games. I can, by good conscious, say that 3 years ago, games were just fine, and now they are screwed up. Except, of course, the indie games, which now give the best gaming experience on mobile devices.

Go back in time and think of games like Warcraft 3, Freelancer, Age of Empires 2, Civilization and even EA's Need for Speed: Most Wanted. You will see, gaming was just fine back then, and the aged game engines don't make it worse since graphics is more than just polygon counts. In terms of Warcraft 3, you even got full campaign additions for free because the devs wouldn't want to implement something they would not love themselves.

Now, just look at your casual smartphone game. Even if payed, your favourite gaming app might still have ads, silly social media "buttons" (like we would not know how to subscribe to a publisher who keeps spamming our walls with not so interesting stuff), use your bandwidth for 'statistics' and requires you to buy for stuff you already bought or posessed. There's almost nothing left about being minimalistic or functional because the bloat washes it all away.

Well, at least we got some indie devs out there who make stuff worth paying for.
