Will never happen, not unless Nintendo moves to just license games as opposed to building consoles which they are still doing. The only reason their consoles sells is proprietary games, you won't find Mario, pokemon, zelda, or any of the other big name Nintendo titles outside of its consoles.

It's ANNOYING AF.

i don't see this as a problem as such but Apple no longer give a shi* about 'Indie Developers' no matter how good their apps are and so once again, and I've seen it happen time and time again, once something is successful the company is only interested in the big name players even though it was the little guys that made the App Store what it is.

Google did exactly the same with PPC, the little guys advertised and now it's all geared towards the big players, the little marketing guy doesn't stand a hope in hell.

I understand and appreciate why they do this but they could still offer some exposure to the little players too whilst still having their cake and eating it.

Let's not forget Steve Jobs was once a small player too!

Apple's paying money to other people to delay THEIR products ?

There is always money involved to "keep things quite"

A truckload of money, How can it be unclear ? Its obvious, but then you have to ask yourself, How big of a truck ?

In any case, paying EA some money just for Apple to get Plants vs Zombies 2 out first is kind of child-ish..... Hate to say it, but what is it to Apple anyway it apps come out first of other platforms ..... This is clearly Apple WANTS to be first, and nothing is gonna stand in our way, even if we pay you money to keep you quite.

Come on APple, stop playing games, and do you you usually do.

it's almost like the first one (which cost $) without spending money, IAP are basically cheats for people that suck in this one.

First one didn't have plants stuck behind paywalls

First one didn't have you grind over and over to get keys. Only point of that grinding btw is to bore you to death so you're tempted to just spend $$$ to unlock straight up

Imagine how much better the gameplay would've been if it wasn't freemium

lol "apple categorically denies the report".

why else would EA release this app in china only? it makes absolutely no business sense.

this is how i think the "negotiation" took place:

tim cook: we'll be happy to pay for your lost profits for as long as you delay plants vs zombies.

andrew wilson: thank you tim, but we wan't to keep our android customers happy too.

tim cook: fair enough, but you DO want to keep your iOS customer's don't you? let alone happy? i wouldn't want to take a closer look at your app's compatibility with iOS and find reasons to take it down...

andrew: it occurs to me our android version isn't quite polished yet. the chinese market is easier to please after all... by the way here's our bank account tim. all the best.

Most here don't seem to get it.

There is a world of difference between paying someone to do something, as opposed to paying someone to not do something.

If I pay you £1000 to make me some medicine that you make me, thats one thing, but if I say here is £1000 for you to not make that other person the medicine, that's a different thing

In your case, the "other person" doesn't have the option to be you.

That might actually be true. The reason is because an Android version of Plants vs Zombies 2 was released in China about 2 weeks ago.

So clearly the game is already complete for Android, but they are releasing to Android in North America on Fall of 2013.

EA delaying it a couple weeks and being paid a truck load of money only means they'll naturally make more money in the end. Either way EA can't loose, weeks of delay won't make people switch, and if they do switch for PvZ 2, EA still makes money because they'll buy it on iOS..

I have no problem with Apple offering the bribe, but i think EA loses all integrity as a publisher for taking the offer. Their job is to publish the games on as many platforms as possible, and to promote their games as much as possible. Not to profit making backdoor deals that demote their games on one platform over another. No wonder EA is such a hated company.

We call it "sharp practice" here in the UK and would likely end up in court. Funny how the human mind can reconcile wrong doing when it suits.

Paying companies for exclusive access to game titles is extremely common (even in the UK). Why would this be any different.

Why? Sony and MicroSoft do it all the time on consoles. It's considered a pretty standard market move in the gaming world.

Exactly, people and this entire story are acting like it's some sort of terrible bad new thing? I would state even it's common practice and expected in the games world these days for exclusive deals to be done for the cash.

Meh, perhaps Apple fans seem to think everything is a myth unless it involves Apple in some way?

A truck load of money to AE is the spare change found in Apple's break room couch.
