Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have any information on a GOOD replacement battery for my MBP.

MacBook Pro 17” Unibody A1297 Early 2011
Battery Model: A1383 10.95 volts 95.0 Wh

Right now I am leaning towards NewerTech NuPower available through BHPhotovideo or OWC (they will ship to Canada). But, I am happy to hear from anyone willing to share their experience.

Thank you.

I used a NuPower battery in my 2011 for almost three years. it was better than the Apple battery and when I got rid of the computer it had almost 350 cycles and still 98 percent health.

Check ifixit. It is said that they have the best aftermarket batteries. People are very happy with them. You can check also my thread:https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/macbook-pro-mid-2010-battery.2102729/#post-25851422

I did see your thread a couple of weeks ago and I would have liked to have selected from the iFixit web site, but they will not ship outside the USA and the Canadian site does not carry such things. Thank you for your response.

Thank you for sharing your experience, it definitely sounds very encouraging.

I went with OWC NuPower, but was disappointed the battery only lasts 4.5-5.5 hours. I was told by OWC this is pretty common and due to High Sierra being more taxing then what shipped with the computer (early 2011 MBP 13"). Still I have to wonder if an OEM Apple battery would have been a better choice.

I would very much have preferred to go with an Apple battery as my original has performed very well. But, I tried that route and was told by my local Apple Store that they cannot order anything for my model anymore as it is considered to be vintage.

Thank you for sharing your experience regarding OWC, it sounds very familiar to the last time I spoke with them. There is always an excuse.........

Before I went with the NuPower battery, my original battery lasted two years before failing outright with only 120ish cycles. fortunately Apple replaced it under AppleCare and the second lasted about two more years with around 500ish cycles. I replaced it around 80 percent health with the NuPower. So I dont have that much trust in Apples batteries. as ive moved on to a 2016 TB Mac with a non user replaceable battery im worried about longevity. its about a year old and has 72 cycles and 94 percent health.

Well, you have essentially echoed everything I have found so far about trying to find a replacement battery, there seem’s to be very little consistency. Ratings, reviews and experiences seem to be “all over the map”.

The battery in my MBP is the original from 2011, so just coming up on 7 years old. Up to half way through last year it was still at better than 80 % capacity, but once it dropped below that 80 % it was if a trigger was hit and it started to spiral down quite quickly since then. I have no complaints, it has done very well and it currently sits at 65 % of original capacity with 1376 charge cycles.

I think at this point I have resigned myself to go with the NuPower battery. I will be going in with the attitude of expecting the worst and hoping for the best.

Thanks again @satinsilverem2 for taking the time to reply to this thread.

Ive never heard of that company. I’m sure its coming out of a factory in china that makes 3rd parties for a number of companies. Also worrying me is the lack of reviews. That all being said it says it comes with a year warranty.
