Recently my Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015) fan has been making a "whirring" noise when running. I tested the speed of the fan and it's at 1297 RPMs, which I believe is a tad under the minimum running speed but could be wrong. (Feel free to correct me on this). As it isn't running on overdrive, I do not believe it needs a replacement but instead that the sound could be due to dust build-up inside of the fan. I've read up on different techniques on how to clean out the fan but wanted to verify the correct and safest way to do so.

I've read using compressed air is alright but do I need to lightly hold the fan so it doesn't spin or is it okay to let it spin from the air?

Bottom line: Does anyone have any suggestions on how to properly get dust & debris out of the fan?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! :)

If you're confident enough (and have the correct tool) to take the bottom panel off, there are quite a few places dust can build up that you could blast. Sounds more likely to be the bearing though which would require replacement.

Thank you so much for the quick response and for the suggestion. I didn't even thinking about the issue being a bearing and honestly this could be the issue. I have a genius bar appointment set up for tomorrow so I'm taking it in then. My only worry is that my apple care ran out and that the replacement is going to cost me quite a bit of money. I'm tempted to replace it on my own, however if I screw it up it'll just cost more money to fix my mistake(s) haha.
