So how would you re-design it? Tall and skinny iPhone 5? Tall and skinny iPhone 4/4s? The reality is that there aren't many more options to completely revolutionize phone design. They all look the same, except for a few gimmicks like snap on accessories or a power button on the back.

The 8 shouldn't even exist. They should have only released the X IMO

Argh. Certain YouTubers are already pushing the agenda that this design is weaker, by purposefully doing whatever it takes to smash the glass back in ever more unrealistic 'drop test' scenarios. Nothing more than clickbait and shock factor. Yes, it will shatter if you drop it from 6ft+ but Apple never claimed to have created indestructible glass, and the benefits of the glass back far outweigh the shatter risk.

o "I really appreciate the glass back, as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7 were just way too slippery, which made it impossible to use them without a case," said MacRumors forum member 0837990, who said he purchased a space gray iPhone 8 Plus. "I can comfortably use the 8 Plus without a case!"

(highlight mine)

Apparently I've been defying the laws of ... reality or something as I've used my 6 Plus, 6S Plus, and 7 without a case, without drops, and without damage.

Impossible apparently!

The first 3 iPhones 2007/2008/2009 were the same design.

2010/2011/2012/2013 practically the same design actually. Just the 5/5s stretched.
Yeah I was tired back then too.

iPhone X.

I bet you're the same person that complains that you have to buy a new case when they change the design too. Just have to find something to complain about.
No I choose to get the X instead.

Not impossible, but it depends on you and your lifestyle. If you're easily distracted or have distracting influences in your life, it's easy to knock one off a table. I never worried about cases until I had an infant in my life. The infant learned to walk and I set my phone down to keep him from going somewhere dangerous. He got back to my phone before I did and before I knew it, he had thrown it off a second floor balcony.

Some people have the presence of mind to secure their phones before trying to save a child from danger (priorities, right?), but I'm not one of them. When I upgraded to an iPhone 6+, I purchased AppleCare, and I made sure to get a case for it.

Now there are four of the little ones running around. I don't think I'll be going caseless.

Just make sure you guys realize the hard restart steps have changed for some unknown reasons.

"On an iPhone 8 or iPhone 8 Plus: Press and quickly release the Volume Up button. Then press and quickly release the Volume Down button. Finally, press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo."

I was impressed with the glass back look. Also it gave it a bit extra weight and reminded me of the impressive iPhone 4 feel.

Difficult to say about the processor improvement with a play in the store, would have to be doing some like video editing to judge. Suspect it might be a useful improvement on the iPhone 7 Plus that I have.

Same with the camera and display, would need to see it outside of the store under more normal lighting.

Here is a picture I took in the Apple Covent Garden store on the iPhone 8 for the video linked elsewhere on MacRumors comments. Looks good but of course have to remember it is taken under bright light conditions.

Does the silver one look white in the back or silver? Because it looks white in all the pictures and videos I've seen

Return of the glass back is the best part. The iPhone 4 was an incredible design, and I definitely think this will hold up better than the previous design. Might make some of that case anxiety go away - I'd probably be brave enough to go naked from day 1. Something about the aluminium back always felt very fragile, as well as slippery! Don't think I'd feel that with a glass back. It's a shame they kept the edges aluminium (which is soft and will crumple/dent on impact), they could have given them the same brushed steel that the iPhone 4 had - which held up really well if I remember correctly.

Hopefully the glass back is something that sticks around for some years to come! Which it should if Apple want to keep wireless charging as a feature.

I wonder if this means we'll see the return of iPhone 4-style bumper cases, as people don't feel the need to protect the back so much!

I picked up an 8+ today and do like the feel of the glass. It feels stronger and has me thinking of not using a case. Glass is grippy enough too. Doesn't slip like the 4 did.

I wasn't impressed at finding 2 dust spots underneath both camera lens on the front. Clearly underneath. So it was quick return to the store and they gave me a new one. Lesson learned: always inspect it before leaving the store.

Yes, that could be anal retentive, but my concern wasn't so much the dust, but more on how it got there - most likely from the manufacturing process, but I wasn't going to take a chance on having a hidden blemish which could get water or more dust in.

Plus for that price.... ya, I want a new one. :)

Cheers,
Brian

"The extra weight feels better in the hand."
-- Keenan

Congrats Keenan. Now *that's* how you fanboy!
LOL -- saw them in the store -- the extra weight will be an issue -- nice glass back but hell no.

i really wish they would put out the Iphone X for testing at least a few weeks ahead. not sure why Apple don't do this.
